venting bride to be about neg. guest comments
nat4crim replied to Golden's topic in Just venting or funnies
I'm so happy I chose to have a DW but at times I just want to pull my hair out with all the drama that has been going on. Originally I wanted to have a small civil ceremony and spend the $ to go to Europe but FH wanted a ceremony for his family to be there. So I love to travel, love the beach and always considered a DW and when we found Las Caletas we were convinced. Ironically, only his parents, one aunt and unlce and brother will be attending. So much for having a ceremony for his family. Here are some comments I've heard.. "Tell you're dad to stop being so cheap and to throw a proper wedding here so we can all attend" I just looked at her and said, #1 it is not my Dad's responsibility to pay for my wedding, he helped with my education, #2 we are having a wedding in Mexico because it is our dream wedding and #3 what makes you think it is so much more inexpensive? "You realize you won't be getting any gifts/money?" Oh really, wow, I never thought about that!! Let me change all my plans, have a wedding that I totally don't want (large, traditional) all so I can get $. I did not realize the most important day of my life should be about making $. "We will attend your AHR" GRRR...this just pisses me off. We are not having one but somehow FMIL went around telling FH's family members she was planing a celebration for us and his friends. We told her several times, we are only having one wedding, one celebration. We are not spending $ to fly out so you can throw a party that is more about you and all of FH's friends. I guess my family/friends don't matter. "At least there is not alot to plan and there is no stress on your part" WTF? If you saw my list of things to do, you would eat your words. My 2 Favourites: From FH's Aunt, "If you were getting married in February in Cuba we would certainly come but I'm sure you can understand that we can't afford 2 vacations in one year" I understand, so why don't you just come to Mexico and forgo going to Cuba for the thousand time. It would mean alot to us to have you there, especially Justin you are his aunt. Her response" Oh you guys are young and so you tend to think everything is important and are overly sensitive" WTF? It's our wedding, you cow of course we think its important. My anger towards her stems that till this day she has yet to call and tell my fiancee that she can't attend. She is too chicken. Everytime she sees him she walks away. For Christmas and his birthday she dropped off a gift at some random door in our building. Lady you can't buy his love. Now this is the one that really hits home. I went to my sister's DW a few years ago. We were poor, I was a student and it was very expensive, plus we had to pay to kennel our dog. But there was no hesitation, we were not going to miss my sister's wedidng. Fast forward to our DW, she has decided she can't afford to come. This coming from a woman who travels to the Carribean 1 to 2 times a year, has a nanny, maid, expensive cars, large house, and who announced proudly at Christmas that she got herself a personal trainer and a $1000 Christmas tree because the old one did not look as nice in their new house. I'm so glad her priorities are straight, I mean her sister's wedding or a nicer Christmas tree. I don't know, the decision is oh so tough... What I say to all DW brides is forget about all these negative people...our weddings will be awesome and why would we want all these negative people to share in our day. They are just jealous because they had a cookie cutter wedding, with so many people that they did not have time to enjoy their guests. Think about it, a wedding of 200 people, just to spend one minute with each guest is over 3 hours of your night. And by the way, its our wedding!!! Don't you get it? -

I'm gonna play each of our parents songs right after our song so they can have a chance to dance to their song. Other guests will also be able to dance as well.

Does anyone know where to find large chocolate starfish molds. I've searched everywhere and can't find them. Here is my cake inspiration. I need something around this size and I can only find small ones. If I can't find the mold, I'll have to use this cake topper. It's nice but it is just not the same and I have my heart set on the large starfish. -
Oh no!! No more Coronna's with a slice of lime What am I gonna do in Mexico

Favors - what did you give?
nat4crim replied to sohappy's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
We are giving starfish wine toppers for the ladies and starfish beach photo albums for the guys and minors. We wanted to give chocolate but did not want to chance them melting so as a welcome we are handing out personalized chocolate bars at the airport. -
Rachel My FH and I also don't want to do a site visit and leave our guests at the resort. Also, I taking those 2 spots from the site visit to bring over my mom and sister along with my 2 bm's and moh. I was just thinking I would give her everything on the day of. I figure we are getting there so early there is plenty of time to go over things.

How Tacky is this???
nat4crim replied to Sunshine311's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
FH and I are planning a combined bachelor/bachellerte party. It never occured to me to feel weird about planning it. Maybe because I'm not doing anything traditional. I'm having a DW, I'm not having any wedding shower and I'm not getting my bridal party to help out. What does make me feel weird though is that the bachelor/bachelorette party will be most of FH's friends. I'm relatively new to this city, don't know too many people and my MOH does not live here. -
I stayed at the OGX with my mom a couple of years ago. It is a beautiful resort. The service was great..pool and beach waiter service. The drinks were sooo good as was the food. Granted I'm used to going to the Dominican Republic and Cuba where the food is just ok. They have a Mayan ceremony in the lobby every afternoon where a boat comes up the river from XCaret park with men dressed in Mayan outfits. It's really cool to see. The free admission to the park next door was an added bonus. The OGX actually has a disco that people use. Of the 6 resorts I've stayed at this was the only one where I have seen alot of people at the disco. I had a great night there with some people I met there. I had no problems making reservations but there were only 2 of us, not a large group. Oh the location of the wedding is stunning. It overlooks the open ocean. The only downsides I can think of is: -the beach...but if you know in advance then it is not that bad. I'm a beach person and was fine. Besides if any of your guests really want a typicall mile long beach you can visit public ones. We went on an excursion to Tulum which included a stop at a gorgeous beach. -Lack of shade around the pools. I could never find any. It seems everyone reserved quite early in the morning. But I remember being constantly annoyed that I could not get out of the blazing heat.

My Dress Still Doesn't Fit !!!!
nat4crim replied to Betsy's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I think 11 weeks is plenty of time given that you don't have to lose that many inches/pounds to zip up your dress all the way. Is it a realistic goal? Also, you may want to up the amount of exercise you do to 5-6 days a week and the type of exercise you do. Your body gets used to the same routine and you may need to switch things up and push yourself harder. Also, try eating 5 small meals a day vs the tradional 3. I just joined a bikini boot camp class 2X a week for an hour, plus I work out at home. I've also started eating 5 times a day. In only 2 weeks, I swear I'm starting to see a difference. The bikini boot camp is crazy hard but working. I'm also doing an exercise program called turbo jam which involves weights and kickboxing. It is hard, but loads of fun. You can also consult a personal trainer/dietician if you can afford it. If after 6 weeks it still does not fit you will still have time for alterations. Good Luck -
First Bridal Portrait Pic!!
nat4crim replied to Ashleigh's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Gorgeous pics. I think the Brittania Lynette suits you so well. I never heard of the bridal portrait either but now my mind is spinning. Maybe I can do them after the wedding, a chance to wear my dress again -
Welcome to the new Canadian LC Brides... To go back to the lighting issues, I'm wondering if either Starchild or Ann can help me on this since both of your weddings were in June. I was under the impression that since I'm getting married in April, the sun does not set until after 8PM giving me plenty of time to get some pics in the daylight. Is this true or am I mistaken?

Las Caletas Cakes
nat4crim replied to chrisnessa's topic in Destination Weddings in Puerto Vallarta & surrounding areas
With a dessert buffet very few people will eat the cake. My FH could do without the cake but I want one for pictures and traditions. Although I really love lemon cake, I decided against paying for an upgrade because I know it will go uneaten. I am sticking with the basic vanilla cake. What I am going to do though to increase the odds of it being eaten is have it served on the boat on the way back. That way, people may not be as full and may want to eat some after dancing and drinking. We will do the formal pics there of course. -
Separate TTD dress?
nat4crim replied to Bride010101's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm undecided whether to buy another dress or use my wedding gown. The thing that worries me the most is the length of time that will pass before I can get it drycleaned. I will do the TTD shoot during the first week since my brother is doing it for us for free but we are staying a second week for our honeymoon. I'm not sure just rinsing it out with water will be enough. It will sit over a week or more with salt and maybe pool water in it and I'm afraid drycleaning won't be able to help that. Also, have you ever noticed when you go to the Caribbean or Mexico your clothes come back smelling musty. It is hard to get the smell out. -
I must admit I did not read the entire thread so these might be duplicates but here are a couple of sites I have dealt with and will be. They all have reasonable shipping fees, some ship from Canada and none use UPS. I got my starfish bouquet jewel from them- they ship from Alberta Dream-Maker Wedding Consultants I will be ordering alot of stuff from them (cake topper, favours, garter...) for one flat shipping fee of $15. There is an awesome sand ceremony kit I may consider. Hudson's Bay Company (HBC): Browse through our distinctive line of wedding accessories. I will be ordering some favours, bm gifts) Wedding Favours - Bridal Shower Favours and Party Favour Ideas On another note, I ran into pink and orange sand for the sand ceremony by complete accident at Loeblaws here in Toronto. It was a great find considering I was having a hard time finding those colours without having crazy shipping fees. I hope this helps future DW Canadian brides

I'm not sure what kind of starfish you are looking for? Fake or Real? If fake, Michaels definately has some. As for buying from US companies, you can avoid getting charged crazy duty/brokerage fees if you ensure that they use USPS. They don't charge crazy fees and there are no suprises when your package arrives. UPS is the shipping company that charges crazy extras like for instance a fee to fill out custom forms...I know someone who bought a $3 product and she paid $30 in fees to UPS. I refuse to purchase anything shipped through UPS.
