  1. Very interesting, my FI and I are talking about having a money registry along with a couple of small traditional registries and frankly I don't expect any of our friends to give us more than $50. I have personally never given cash as a wedding gift, but when buying presents it really mostly depends on my financial situation and the relationship to the bride and/or groom. I think I probably avg. between $20-60 for wedding presents. I am cheap I guess, but sometimes that's the way it has to be.
  2. I love seeing everyone's rings, so fun. So here's mine (better late than never): We're having our bands made and I'm thinking something like this: His will be same style/metal, but wider and with satin finished and an aquamarine on the inside.
  3. Hmm, hope I did this right. This is my dress, it's a Ramona Keveza and it's 2 pieces (they'll make it one for me). I'm actually not sure that the bottom in this pic is the exact one, but it's damn close. ETA: Oh the color is color of the skirt. And the part numbers (hee) are: L640 (top) and L673 (bottom) I have one question, maybe I'll do a poll for it. For those of you who ended up with a more traditional dress, did you have the train altered off or did you just bustle it? Other suggestions are appreciated as well. Thanks- Alisha
  4. Good luck and congrats Mishi! I'm sure it will be amazing.
  5. We're spending a 6 days on Tortola (BVI) for the wedding and then leaving the day after the wedding for St. Martin/St. Maarten. We'll stay there for 2 days and then heading to Anguilla for 5 more days. So we're doing a Caribbean tour basically.
  6. This is in the Grenadines I think. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative they have a sister resort on the island that is much more reasonable: Tamarind Beach Hotel & Yacht Club. We were thinking of this place for our honeymoon, we decided it's definitely a place we'll visit in the future, perhaps on a sailing vacation.
  7. Hope I'm putting this in the right place... Does anyone know of a good photographer based in the BVI? I think our wedding coordinator will suggest someone, but I want to do my homework and get some recommendations before we get that far. Thanks- Alisha
  8. I love this idea Mishi, because I totally looked through all 116 (or whatever) pages too.
  9. Hi Kayleena, Since a lot of people are talking about Tulum I thought I'd mention this eco place that I stayed at a couple of years ago. They have 3 properties right next to each other, but not on top of each other. I stayed at Cabanas Copal, and I totally loved it. Each property is small and two of them (Cabanas and Zahra) are electricity free (the common areas and restaurants have electricity, but the rooms don't), but they do have indoor plumbing so it's not completely rustic. I'm not sure if they do all-inclusive deals, but here's the link to their Group/Wedding info page: Tulum | Mexico Accommodations | Riviera Maya - EcoTulum Resorts & Spa - Eco friendly Mexico Vacation Hotel – Caribbean Villas.
  10. Found it: Wedding Invitations, Birth Announcements, Party Invitations  eInvite You basically design it online and then order it, mine took about a week and a half from the time I ordered til they were delivered to me. Then I had to put them together, address them, and stamp them. They really turned out nice.
  11. Welcome, and no worries you can get it all done. I agree with everyone else, the dress is the first priority followed by invitations. I went dress shopping this weekend and was glad I started because some places need a lot of lead time. As for invitations, I found a place online that did my DW invites and they were reasonable and pretty fast. I can't find the link right now, but I'll look it up when I get home and post it then.
  12. I second the titanium idea for your FI's band. You may want to also think about white gold, and I'm pretty sure a plain gold band in white gold will only be 150-350 dollars, maybe less depending on style, width and designer. For a guy, I personally would stay away from silver since it's a softer metal and can scratch easily. It also requires more cleaning if it's not worn on a regular basis. It does get a nice patina with age though for both of the above reasons and if that appeals to you then it might be an extremely affordable option.
  13. Ha, I think the date/place has been the easiet thing so far. He loves the BVI, and has been many times. We went together last year for a week and I really loved it. We had to do low season to keep cost down, but it seemed like end of low season would be more fun than beginning in terms of more stuff open more people around. So that was easy peasy, we had it all nailed down in 3 weeks. The dress on the other hand is turning out to be really hard decision and I'm getting so much pressure from places to order 6 months out, which is like next week!
  14. Hey, I'm in Austin too. Are you doing a reception in Austin or just a one shot destination thing? If you want something smaller, less touristy, then I'd say Riveria Maya (Tulum maybe?). My FI and I stayed at the Cabanas Copal in Tulum and loved it. I think the same people own the Azulik hotel as well, and it looked very romantic. We went during high season (xmas), and even though the Cabanas the the 2 other resorts were sold out it didn't seem crowded or crazy. I also really love the British Virgin Islands (BVI) because most places are small and laid back.
  15. Hi everyone, I'm Alisha and really psyched that I found this forum. I'm getting married 10/27/07 on Tortola in the BVI. I'm excited, but perhaps a little stunned. I don't think it's fully sunk in yet that I'm, like, engaged (even though it's been a month since he proposed). I totally look forward to reading the forums and getting excellent advice from everyone here. Hopefully I can also contribute some excellent advice while I'm at it. Nice to meet everyone...
