The one girl who replied with the vendor comment must be new to the DW board as I've never seen her name before. The DW board is really nice. That's where I posted a lot when planning (thought there's a lot of new people now). However, I never ventured out to the other boards because, I'm sorry, most of the girls there are bitches! I posted once or twice on my local knot board... holy crap, I barely said hi and I got snotty remarks about how I was selfish for having a DW, how my questions were stupid (uh, how is asking a question about where to get a dress altered stupid?!). Seriously, if you aren't mature enough to act like an adult on a wedding message board, how the hell are you going to make it through marriage. Good luck to those future husbands!!

You know, it took me like 3 days to figure out what the whole hotdog/cheeseburger thing meant. I was so confused. The cheeseburger threw me off, never heard of that expression! It sucks though, because I won't go in for that big ultrasound until 20 weeks. 4 more weeks to go!!

All sold. Thanks!

Yes, there are two K-marts in St. Thomas. The larger one is located in the Tutu Park Mall. There is another smaller Kmart in a strip mall, but I don't remember the exact location (off of 35 maybe? I forget). The one in TuTu Park is bigger and nicer anyway. The Tutu Park mall is kinda of small, but it has several stores we are accustomed to in the states, such as Payless, one of those sporting goods stores I can't recall the name of right now, Claires, etc. There is not a Walmart. If you have any other questions about what stores they have there, let me know!!

Questions for the TTD'ers
Jessica replied to brecluse's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Hmm, well I didn't go in for a full swim, but went into the water about waist deep. The dress wasn't ruined, but it was definitely dirty (from the sand) and would have to be professionally cleaned. Since I had no plans on keeping my dress, it didn't really matter. But there was no discoloration or anything. I had my dress dry outside our villa in the sun. Since it rained, it took two days. Again, Dress was still in great condition, just still had a lot of sand on it. It didn't stink in a really bad horrible way, but it definitely had a "not so fresh" smelll to it. I assume though that would have gone away with a professional cleaning. -

What do your FI's think of the forum??
Jessica replied to michelle08's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Fi has his own forum addictions. We don't really say anything about each other's forums. As long as it's nothing shady, it doesn't matter. -
I do think it sucks when people are irresponsible with their pets. They need to realize it's a lifelong committment when they adopt or buy a pet. I can't tell you how many people who move out of our apt complex dump their cats in the wooded area out back because they don't want to take the cat with them. This is horrible, and I don't condone it. On the otherhand, I also understand there may be a valid reason for not being able to take care of a pet anymore. Unfortunately it is extremely hard to find other arrangements for a lot of people. Especially cat owners. I had a friend who had to move away suddenly (her mother in CA has terminal cancer and lives in a no-pet residence). My friend is now living in CA for an undetermined amount of time. There are so many other things going on in her life, that as much as it broke her heart, she just couldn't keep her cat. She only had about a month to move and tried so hard to find a new home. No luck. I tried to help as well. We posted adoption ads everywhere and tried EVERY shelter in the area and constantly got turned down. It was almost as if the shelters were giving us no choice but to dump this cat in the street. I offered to take the cat in until I could find it a placement. I did not want to keep the cat and had no intention of doing so, but I didn't want to have my friend just abandon it somewhere, especially since it was during the winter. It became to be a bit of a strain to find a place for this cat. I tried shelter after shelter after shelter. I even tried the place she originally adopted the cat from, whih said "If you need to surrender the cat, you must return it back to us or else we will take legal action." Ummm.... what a bunch of crap. They kept giving me the run-around. Finally I said enough, I was sick of being nice. I went to one of the shelters and told them I had been calling for months and months and that I know NJ shelters can not legally turn away a surrender and pretty much had to force them to take the cat. Believe me, I pretty much cried the whole time because I hate the thought of abandoning a pet (even if it wasn't mine!). It's easy to judge someone in that situation, but a lot of times, it's hard on them as well. I do love animals though, so don't get me wrong.

That's nuts! But... who steals cosmetics? That's kinda gross. I mean I'm sure your mom has great hygiene and everything... but honestly, what the hell are you going to do with used cosmetics?! Use them? Ewww.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask people to RSVp 9 months in advance. So much can change. That's why I wouldn't send the RSVP with the invite. I used the STD as a way to tell people what date the wedding was, where it is, and to give them time to save up money. Then I used the invitation to formally invite them and the RSVp was to tell me for sure if they were able to come. For my group, this worked best because people could save money, but didn't have to fully commit themselves to coming far in advance if they didn't know if they would have enough money. You really don't need that much time to put OOT bags together and order favors. Especially if your guest list is fairly small. So it's not totally neccessary to get numbers for that stuff super far in advance. The only way I would have had anyone RSVP to the STD was if I needed a tentative head count far in advance for the reception. Otherwise, I think it's too much to deal with. I personally wouldn't want to commit, or even tentatively RSVP to an event more than three months in advance, because I'd feel obligated to stick to it. Besides, RSVP's are super annoying! Ugh, people need to learn how to return them! Do whatever works best for you.

I'm not sure what style you are talking about. Is there supposed to be a picture? 1. I sent out STD's first. I sent mine out 10 months in advance. I really wanted to send them out 12 months in advance, but we had some stuff going on at the time and I wasn't able to. I sent newsletters with the STD's. The newsletters basically had info about St. Thomas, where the wedding and reception was going to be, info about the trip, passsport info, suggested hotels, how to get around the island, etc. etc. I used magnets from vistaprint as the actual STD's. I got married in May. Sent out invitations at the end of January with a RSVP deadline of March 23 (2 months before the wedding). This way I could get a final headcount and plan favors, transportation and stuff without a last minute rush. I also sent the invites 3 months before the wedding date to remind people who hadn't already booked to get a move on it! I made RSVP postcards on vistaprint. 2. I've seen some girls gather a tentative RSVP from the STD's, but that's just so they could have an idea of how many people might be able to come. I didn't do this. I just had people RSVP to the invites (which is the traditional way) because all I cared about was knowing FOR SURE who would come. I thought it would be unfair to have be RSVP for sure to the STD's because who really definitely knows ten months in advance if they will absolutely be able to come. And usually you don't need a headcount that far in advance anyway.

Flip flop tags
Jessica replied to anaderoux's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
That is such a great idea!!! -
I think the wedding gods love to stress brides out up to the very last minute and then sprinkle "it'll all work out" dust over everything because that's what has happened to me and everyone I know. Total stress with things going wrong, and the suddenly, those black clouds move away and everything works out just in time to keep the bride out of a psychiatric hospital! Good luck with everything! Maybe your aunt can start looking for potential dresses now online for ideas (and for stores that would have them in stock) that way she doesn't have to spend time scouring the mall for one).

Maps or brochures of PV??
Jessica replied to nellieboo's topic in Destination Weddings in Puerto Vallarta & surrounding areas
I don't know about PV, but when I was gathering OOT stuff for my St. Thomas guests, I contacted their tourism board, explained that I was getting married there and wanted to put together packets of info for my guests and they sent me a TON of maps and guidebooks for free. Maybe you can try that? Again, I don't know if PV is the same as St. Thomas, but there were actually free maps and guidebooks EVERYWHERE (airport, hotels, etc) so I could have also easily gotten them that way. I sent out the maps to guests ahead of time anyway, so it didn't matter. But if you can find out this stuff is around PV, it might be easier for you to pick them up at the airport, that way you don't have extra stuff to lug around. -
She still posts on the knot. Her wedding was moved to June 30th (before the fire incident took place), so hopefully she will still be able to have a great wedding. Not sure if her site was damaged or not! Or if she even knows because just yesterday she posted on the knot about leaving in a few days!!
