  1. I love, love, love, LOVE Bookmooch. I've gotten lots of great stuff from there.
  2. Sorry for being late on this... HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBIE!!!
  3. Whoa... how sad! Glad the baby was saved, hopefully he does well. Quote: Baby Saved as Heroes Lift Bus Off Mom NEW YORK (Aug. 15) - Dozens of strangers converged from all directions to lift a 5-ton bus off the body of a pregnant woman — a superhuman effort that managed to save the life of her child but was too late for her. Seven months pregnant, Donnette Sanz was crossing one of the busiest intersections in the Bronx on her lunch break Thursday when she was struck by a van whose brakes failed. The impact sent the 33-year-old NYPD traffic agent flying into the path of a yellow school bus and pinned her underneath. About 30 people helped lift the bus, and Sanz was rushed to a hospital, where doctors delivered her boy by Caesarean section. The 3-pound, 6-ounce infant, named Sean Michael, was in critical condition Friday but showing signs of improvement. "This is such an unbelievable tragedy that took place; it took away one of our own," said James Huntley, president of the union that represents traffic agents. "But I'm so thankful to the city of New York and to the citizens who came to her aid, like real heroes out of a comic book." Mourners and neighborhood residents gathered outside the hospital Friday to pray for Sanz and her child. The 72-year-old van driver, Walter Walker, pleaded not guilty Friday to criminally negligent homicide and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was being held on $100,000 bail, and his attorney didn't immediately return a phone call. Police said in a court filing that the brakes on Walker's van had deteriorated so badly that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Walker told investigators he had some repairs done six months ago but knew there were still problems. Police said Walker's license has been suspended 20 times, most recently for failure to pay parking tickets. He had previously been sentenced to probation and fines for driving offenses. "We was riding along, coming down the hill," John Dargan, a passenger in Walker's van, told the Daily News. "He said, 'Oh, my Lord, I don't have no brakes.' It happened so quick. I just closed my eyes." Walker told the New York Post: "The light turned red, and I couldn't stop. I tried to miss her." He said he had been using his brother's van to help a friend move. Sanz, a Bronx resident, had been a civilian member of the NYPD for two years, one of the city's blue-uniformed traffic agents who direct vehicles, write parking tickets and operate tow trucks — without benefit of guns or bulletproof vests. She had been on administrative duty because of her pregnancy when she went out to lunch and crossed the street, just as the van ran the light. Bystanders, including Gary Burgess, came in waves to lift the mini school bus from Sanz's body. "It was the human thing to do," said Burgess, 50. "I had grease on my hands, but I did this from my heart." There were no children on the bus at the time. Sanz survived the delivery in an emergency operating room at St. Barnabas Hospital but died about an hour later, spokesman Fred Winters said. The baby was taken to the neonatal intensive-care unit and placed on a ventilator. He was still in critical condition Friday but "is basically healthy," Winters said. At the hospital on Thursday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg met with Sanz's husband, Rafael, to offer his condolences. "It's a terrible poignancy that Donnette's son's birthday will now coincide with the day his mother died," the mayor said. "I hope that as this child grows up, he comes to understand that his mother gave her life in service to our city and that we are forever grateful." Baby Saved as Heroes Lift Bus Off Mom
  4. I did like the first one until I read Tammy's post... and now that's all I can think of!
  5. I think definitely April for sure. Not too sure on the second person she'll put up. My favorite part of last night's epi. April saying that Keesha is jealous of her because she's prettier. Yeah, April... that totally must be it. You are soooo much prettier.
  6. If I were a designer, I would hate the team challenge. Just because I totally want to be responsible for every aspect of my design and I'm a control freak. I will say, as much as I loved Kelli, her outfit was horrid. That bustier/top thing was just ewww. But yeah, it does suck that if it's your vision, then automatically you are the one sent home (or at least that's how it usually works out). I think that's why the second person is usually so passive about voicing opinions on the design/construction (Kenely excluded!), because they figure "Well, if it totally sucks, it won't be my fault." I also think Jerell should have won. His dress was the best IMO.
  7. 1. Jenn 2. Alyssa 3. Carly 4. Danielle 5. lauren 6. Casey 7. Karen and Jason 8. Becks 9. Desiree (tentative, but more towards yes) 10. Jessica (maybe) and yeah, my DH wouldn't come if I paid him, but I think it's cool if other DH's/FI's join us.

  9. Awww. I'm sorry. Poor little guy. Give his brother a lot of love! I'm sure he misses his buddy.
  10. I am open so far for the 20th. If we do Trenton, (which is funny because usually people don't jump at the chance to go to Trenton!), KatManDu is pretty cool. KMDIntro2
  11. It does sound fun. DH used to go to the Firefighter conventions in Wildwood and I heard they get wild. I've only been to Wildwood once and I didn't get to fully enjoy it because it was a work trip Anyway, sorry for the hijack! Lauren, I think somewhere along route 1 would be cool. Even maybe somewhere in Edison/Woodbridge. Like Menlo Park Mall, or that area.
  12. ^ Oh, yeah I figured that might be the one you were talking about. I've always wanted to go, but it's a little far from us for just a day trip, I'd want to spend the night.

  14. I'm in... work/school/Aiden schedule pending. Brunswick would be cool, as long as Rutgers isn't doing anything big those weekends because it's always a huge pain in the ass to navigate the area and get seating in places on those days (I've spent way too many times in traffic on game days and other RU events).
  15. What bugs me in addition to what you said, Erica, is that no one can just have a fight and have it be between person one and person two. Somehow every single fight snowballs and EVERYONE in the freaking house gets involved and it's just a clusterf--k of everyone yelling at each other. It's like, come on, I know you people must be bored stuck in a house without tv, computer or music, but seriously, shuuuuuuuut up!
  16. What?! No way! I wasn't a big fan, but I am just completely shocked.

  18. I can not stand Michelle. She is just such a asshole. I was bummed too that she got HoH. I wanted her to go home this next week.
  19. Oooh, That's a cool bag Alyssa! I have bags galore. The other day I bought a few green bags that were on clearance at Target for about $5 (not the red bags that fold up that they have, they were a natural color with various designs.) My MIL got me a great one from Australia that is super cute.
  20. FINALLY!!!!!!!! He's gone. Poor Dan knows he's screwed though. I hope he finds a way to make it through this HOH.
  21. Great show!!! I gotta say, I really LOVED the Cirque du Soleil performance.
