  3. I used Michael and was very happy with him! I agree his photos are not AS stunning as many specialty photographers, but he captured our day perfectly and for us and our budget, it was great! I do LOVE his new assistant Christopher's work, I have seen many new brides photos who used him and he is great! He was not there yet when we got married in Feb. I have a link to my review and pics below in my signature, just click on that and they should be in there! Hope that helps! (On page 6 of my review I posted a link to all 100+ photos we purchased from Michael)
  4. Actually, the groom's view is blocked by palm trees for the most part. The groom should also be faced the other way so unless he is REALLY craning his neck to try to get a look at you, you should remain mostly out of sight until the walk down the aisle! My hubby didnt see me until I began my walk down right in front of him!
  5. Where are my fellow Losties today? I LOVED last night's show!! New mysteries were the mysterious island guy (I dont remember if we ever learned his name?) who was outside of the room when Baby John Locke was born and then appeared again at the house when he was a child! And then the OTHER guy who has something to do with Oceanic or the island who was John's attendant when he was in the wheelchair... then there is Claire who is OK but with Christian in Jacob's cabin... wow, I am more confused but loving it!
  6. We flew out of Calgary and the only flying days out and in were Saturday...!
  7. That is such a beautiful dress and you looks fabulous in it!
  8. I had 40 guests, ranging in age from 2 months old to 84! Every single person loved it! It really does have something for everyone! It's a great choice, no worries!
  9. We also arrived late Saturday, were married Tuesday, and left the following Saturday. It worked great because we were able to truly relax and enjoy ourselves after the wedding!
  10. What a great review! It brought back so many memories, our weddings were very similar! I had the Mammee Bay dinner and the disco reception as well! Can't wait to see your pictures!!
  11. They look great! Did you use Michael (The Riu Ocho Rios photog)as your photographer?
  12. I like the theories!! This whole Claire seeing her birth father, who is also Jack's father, and then disappearing and leaving Aaron alone has really got me so confused. I know something obviously happens to Claire since Kate later has Aaron... but what the heck?

Would you girls suggest we make our appt with Chandlyn from home before we arrive at the resort? I have read on these threads that she is hard to locate. Has anyone went to the pool in between the wedding and dinner? This was an option I was thinking about...all have some drinks around the swim up bar. My wedding is at 1pm and I will have some time to kill. Any thoughts I would definitely set up a meeting time with Chandlyn before you leave home, it just makes things easier. I set up a time with her about 2 weeks before we left for Jamaica and that worked well. For sure you could hit the pool if you want, just try not to get your hair wet if your hair is done up all pretty!
  14. What did everyone think of last night's show? I LOVE LOST!! I am so happy that Jack and Kate are together in the future, but so confused, LOL! And what the heck is up with the whole Claire and Aaron situation?
  15. What a beautiful wedding! The greenery around the pond gazebo is so lush, it looks wonderful! It looked like the perfect day, congratulations!!

It's just the 2 of us, so kinks in the wedding planing are less likely to be a problem with us. Plus I am not really concerned with things like flowers, cake, etc. I just want to relax, have fun, and come home with decent pictures to show the family. I did check and if the resort is not upen in time for our trip, then we will be sent to one of the other Rius on the island instead...which is not a bad option either. Also the travel insurance we might select has some coverage for that as well. Right now it looks like our wedding date will be either Feb 28 or March 2, 2009. We are likely to put the deposit down in the next few days. I might be the first Riu Montego Bay bride on the board! I say go for it! It sounds perfect for the two of you since you will be more laid back about any "just opened" kinks! And I want you to go so you can tell us all about it when you're back, LOL!! I would love to check out this resort as well!
  17. I do know of a bride on the canadianbride.com talkboards who got married there, her name was Mel I think... you could try there... I am not sure if she checks in too often. She had a beautiful wedding, her pictures were great and she said they had a wonderful time. I think the only comments that were negative were that the prices of the packages there add up very quickly. My in-laws went to that resort shortly after opening and they enjoyed it but they said the beach is man-made so it's a bit rocky and gravelly... but that was 2 years ago and I am sure they have made improvements! We were married at the Riu Ocho Rios and it was amazing, so I of course can recommend it! We did drive by the Gran Bahia though and it does look stunning as well, all brand new and sparkling white!
  18. Wow! There really ARE a TON!! They're beautiful Heidi! And it looks like everyone had a BLAST in the disco! So much fun!
  19. Congratulations! You looked beautiful and I'm so glad everything worked out for you, even the weather!! Cant wait to hear more about your experience and see more pics of it all!!
  20. I felt very safe in Jamaica but we were told to avoid Kingston. Around Ocho Rios and Negril and Montego Bay though I really didnt have any concerns. It's always wise to never go off alone whereever you travel, but I think Jamaica is as safe as any tropical destination! I LOVED IT!!! We were married at the Riu Ocho Rios and we honeymooned at Sandals Whitehouse. Both were lovely properties but I would have to say I preferred the Riu Ocho Rios. It is a beautiful resort with better value for your dollar, and I liked the beach and ocean in Ocho Rios better than in Whitehouse.
