I actually did a site visit with my FI back in April and visited both the Iberostar Lindo & May and all of the Riu Resorts. Although the Iberostar was great, we decided to get married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. I just thought the Iberostar was too big. If you have any questions about the Riu though, just let me know!

We are getting married on a Friday as well. We live in Boston and are getting married in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Thursday - Sunday is perfect amount of time and when most of our guests are coming. I'm also excited that we'll have all day Saturday to spend with our guests...and won't have to worry about the wedding since we'll already be married!

Signature Cocktail?
rob4ever replied to gracefulsteph's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
We just thought of our signature drink this week! It's going to be called "The Fishbowl" (Fishman is our last name) and it's going to be a blue margarita with Curaçao instead of Triple Sec. I bought Fish Straws and Palm Tree Palm Tree Swizzle Sticks to put in them! -
groomsmen's gifts
rob4ever replied to 1elephant's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
We bought them their linen shirts to wear at the wedding and reef leather flip-flops. It's not very exciting, but definitely added up! -
We just ordered our invitations! They are boarding passes with a tear-off card for guests to RSVP. They also each come in a vellum pocket that has our logo on it. I received a sample before ordering and love them! Koket Design is the name of the company and the woman I have been working with, Sandy, has been great. Below is the company's webpage: Koket Design They were a bit pricey, but we made our Passport STDs so it was worth it! Sorry for the multiple posts! I don't know how to delete them.

Post Groom and GM attire
rob4ever replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Rob is going to wear a khaki linen suit from JCrew and the GM are going to wear chocolate linen pants from Island Importer. Since the Dad's are going to wear the same pants, we needed something that would fit ALL sizes. Plus, the shirts are going to be un-tucked so no one will see the drawstring. Beach Towels
rob4ever replied to starchild's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
We bought beach towels for our OOT bags from Sears last week. They were $9.99/towel and they are great quality. They all have palm trees on them and I ordered a bunch of different colors so that each guest will get their own towel. -
I ordered 70 pairs of flip flops last week from Old Navy for our OOT bags. I ordered different sizes and colors for the ladies and the gents and they were on sale for $2.50/pair. Instead of putting them in their OOT bags when they arrive at the resort, I am going to have them in buckets at our reception. I figure that way, they will serve as a decoration since they are so colorful and also as a gift since we'll have our guests put them on during the reception. Hopefully, that will get everyone out on the dance floor!

We are getting married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in February and are expecting @ 70 guests. We picked the Riu because it is big enough to accommodate a large group, but not too big (like the Moon Palace or Iberostars) so we would still be able to find each other and feel like a group. The Riu is also kid friendly which was important to us for families traveling and is also a gorgeous resort. Good luck decided upon a resort!

Maracas
rob4ever replied to Lizzy's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
When we were down in RM for a site visit, there were a bunch of stores that had maracas. Some were better than others, but on average, they were @ $1.00 each. I'm sure if you were buying a bunch, they would give you a discount. We plan on buying them for our guests when we get down there since we don't want to deal with shipping. -
I LOVED Natasha's Passport invitations so much (and she was so helpful sharing!) that we used her idea to create our very own Passport Save-the-Dates! My sister's boyfriend (he's also a groomsman) is a graphic design artists and helped make them for us. We mailed them the other weekend and people love them! Thanks again Natasha for the great idea!

Show us your wedding dress!
rob4ever replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I just bought my dress this weekend! I am so relieved to have that out of the way. I fell in love with this dress before Rob and I even got engaged. It was the first and only wedding dress I ever tried on. I've heard that never happens!!! Alfred Angelo... If you are having less than 50 people, you can have a private reception at Botafogo. You can have a DJ set-up and dancing there as well. If you have more than 70 people, you can have a private reception at Chillis and also have a DJ set-up and dancing there. It all depends on if you want the entire restaurant, or just a private section for your reception and if you want a DJ playing during dinner. Hope this helps! Hi there. I'm getting married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya so I'm not sure of the specifics at the Riu Palace, but below are my thoughts. We went on a site visit in April... Quote: Originally Posted by evonut Anyone gone into details about their reception planning yet? I was very confused about the reception details until we went on our site visit. It really all depends on how many people you have. When my fiance and I got to planning the wedding program, few questions came up: 1) Reserved restaurant - Do the guests order their own food or is there a set menu for everyone? At the RPRM, if you have more than 70 guests, you can have your reception at the Mexican restaurant, Chillis. It is a buffet. If you have a smaller group (@ 30), you can rent out a section of that restaurant for your guests and it will not be a buffet. I think you have an option for entrees. 2) Music & Entertainment - What is the charge for renting the resort's sound system (speakers, mic, etc)? From what I understand, you can pay for a DJ that they bring down from Cancun. I don't think they have equipment at the resort that they will just let you use. However, I hear you can provide your own music with an IPod, but I am not sure how much that would cost. 3) Reserving Disco - The cost is $770 USD. The website is not clear about this but does this include the DJ? For how long? If you are having a reception in Botafogo or Chillis, you can pay for a DJ at the restaurant. If you chose not to do that or have a smaller group, there is a disco that they rent out for weddings down the street at the Riu Yucatan. It has a bar and you could have a DJ there (I don't know how much extra that would cost). It's a little big of a walk, but that disco is only for private functions. There is another disco in the Riu Lupita that opens to all Riu guests at 10 or 11 PM. 4) Projector and Screen - Anyone know how much it cost to renting the resort's projector system and screen? I have no idea on this one! I know these questions are better answered by the WC but dang, it takes them forever to get back. If you know any information, holler back!

Riu Palace Riviera Maya (AI)
rob4ever replied to TammyWright's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
My FI and I recently visited the Riu Palace Riviera Maya for a site visit in April to make sure this was the place we wanted to get married. We loved it and made the final decision to have our wedding there. We are sending out the STDs next week! Sine I had a lot of problems getting information from them and booking our date prior to our visit, I wanted to share some of the answers we got to our questions while there. Food: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...uote=1&p=47710 Visit this link to find out about the 6 restaurant options at the RPRM. We really enjoyed the food and felt that all the restaurants and buffets had a great selection with lots of fresh food. You have to make dinner reservations between 12 - 3 PM with a woman who is located near La Habana bar and there are two seatings at 6:30 PM and 8:45 PM. You can make up to two reservations at a time (Sir Oliver is the smallest and fills up fastest, but Agave was our favorite!) Visiting Other Riu's: If you are staying at the RPRV or the Riu Palace, you are free to visit the other four Riu hotels in PDC. You can use their facilities, swim, drink and eat lunch there. The only thing is that you must eat dinner at the resort you are staying at so try to go on a bar crawl or eat lunch at a different resort just to explore. Ceremony Options: There is a beautiful gazebo that is off of the spa where I am going to get married. It's a little more private and away from the pool. They set up chairs there ($4pp) on the lawn and there is a stone walkway for the bride. You can also get married on the beach which is lovely. It's more private than you would think and not open to the "public"...just other Riu guests who are lounging there. One thing to keep in mind...it is always very windy on the beach no matter how the weather is or what time of day it is. Reception Options: This really depends on the size of your group. If your group is 50 or less, you can have a private reception in the Brazilian restaurant called Botafogo. They will give it to you for the second seating at 8:45 PM and you can have a DJ set up there. If your group is 80 +, you can have a private reception in Chillis restaurant for the second seating and have a DJ set up there as well. If your group is 100+, they will give you Chillis for both seatings and therefore your guests can eat at 7 PM. Either of the options in Chillis though is a buffet style meal and they only serve beer and wine there. If you want a full open bar for your reception, it's @ $10pp extra. If you have a small group, I think you can eat in any of the restaurants, but it just won't be private. They'll give you a section of the restaurant and I'm sure they'll help you work out the details. Dancing If you are having a reception in Botafogo or Chillis, you can have a DJ at the restaurant. If you chose not to do that or have a smaller group, there is a disco that they rent out for weddings down the street at the Riu Yucatan. It has a bar and you could have a DJ there. It's a little big of a walk, but that disco is only for private functions. There is another disco in the Riu Lupita that opens to all Riu guests at 10 or 11 PM. Cocktail Receptions For cocktail receptions, either for the night before your wedding or before your receptions, there are two options that we were given. You can rent out the pool bar for a private reception @ 6 PM for $10pp. It closes at 6 PM which is why there is a charge to keep it open. You can also have a private section of the Lirico Bar (outside) or the La Habana Bar (inside). After 6 PM is free because those bars are open to the public, so you would just have a private section. Passed or' derives can be purchases at @ $10pp. They have a few different varieties that you may choose from. Rain Options Of course, we don't want to think about this, but it's good to have a back up plan. If it rains, they can step up Don Manolo for your ceremony and reception. This is the biggest rest aunt where everyone eats breakfast. They'll move the tables and create a space for your ceremony & reception in there if it's pouring. The Beach There are a lot of bad reviews about the beach at the RPRM and that was a big reason on why we wanted to go down and visit. It's true that the beach is very eroded along most of Playa del Carmen. However, the reviews make it seem like there is no beach at all. That is untrue. There is tons of beach area with sand, palm trees and lounge chairs overlooking the ocean. The problem is that you just can't run right into the ocean from the beach. You have to go in a round about way to get to the water, but it is possible and once you are in, there is lots of sand and you can walk out a ways before the water gets deep. The pictures online are misleading, but overall, we were surprised to see how nice the beach area was after all the negative reviews. Besides, who wants to lay on the beach when you can sit in the pool right next to the bar! I hope this answers a lot of your questions. Please let me know if you want more information. I figure this is the best thread to post detailed info on the RPRM since the other Riu sites are most general and talk about Riu's in other parts of Mexico. -
Bridesmaids dresses

This was actually my first choice for my BMs, but I have 2 girls that are well-endowed and this halter is really low cut. So, I bought it for myself and am going to wear to the rehearsal dinner. Sorry I never responded Heidi! My girls got their dresses at Nordstrom and I didn't realize it came in other colors. As you already know, they have tons of great BM dresses for reasonable prices on Nordstrom's website. I love the ones you picked out! Good luck finding one!
