  1. Welcome Amber!! Are you going to get married before the ship leaves port or at one of the exotic destinations?
  2. Good call Jess! Where is a celebrity hitting a car with an umbrella when you need one?
  3. Welcome my fellow Badger loving friend!! I hope this forum is as helpful to you as it was to me. Feel free to let me know if you need anything. have a great planning experience!!
  4. Wear what makes YOU happy! When i first went dress shopping I had a strict budget and image in my mind. I refused to spend more than $500 on a DW dress and it had to be beachy and flowy. Well, i bought that dress. I ended up LOATHING that dress. I seriously hated it. And although other people liked it, it was MY wedding day and I needed to feel good and beautiful. So, I ended up spending more than double what I had originally said because I finally let myself buy the dress that I wanted that was perfect for me. It wasn't necessarily a BEACH dress, but it looked beautiful on me (If I do say so myself) and it photographed gorgeously... So, do what makes YOU happy!
  5. Yup, my pool side reception at the Akumal side we used the resort DJ and we loved him!! He was great!
  6. I think to get a good photojournalist or documentary style photographer you'll end up having to spend a decent amount anyways. Why not try contacting some photographers from the CA area. Perhaps their rates would be cheaper since they aren't traveling so far and airfare might be better?
  7. Honestly, I just had the resort DJ and he was great! he was the same DJ from the entertainment pool and he kept our crowd going and even danced with us. We all loved him.
  8. Oh this is kind of tough because i loved my wedding so much... but I think maybe I'd buy a video of the wedding with the extra $500 If I had to cut $500... I wouldn't have bought my first disaster of a wedding dress for $527!!! GRRRRR!!!! And if that doesn't count, then the bridesmaids could have paid for their own makeup & nails... but I treated them instead.

    Newbie!

Welcome to the forum Lindsey!!! Hawaii weddings are really beautiful and I can't wait to hear more about yours!
  10. Corvette, I definitely think it's a good thing you rescheduled. Even if they DO lift the ban. because what if they didn't. And you waited too long. The odds of that June 10th date being taken by another put out bride are SO great. So this way you don't have to worry. You can spend the next month planning for an amazing wedding!!
  11. Yup, no worries ladies! Tiffany and Tammy have everything under control! This is going to be a great marathon!!
  12. We took the collectivos and taxis and we felt perfectly fine and safe. I think a lot of the overall Mexico safety threads are basically about either Riviera Maya or Cabo, so I think that information will be beneficial to you.
  13. Welcome back!!! I can't wait to hear more... well, more about your trip and NOT about the flu!
  14. Personally, I didn't do a garter belt, I just didn't want to. The sand ceremony WAS original. I don't know about where you come from and what your weddings are like, but I had never been to a wedding where a sand ceremony was done before. It was new to all of my guests, and since I have never been married, it was new to me. It was a special reading that I picked out and it actually made everyone cry because it was so beautiful. Other options that I don't see done in home town weddings are hand ceremonies, mayan blessings, the lasso thing (sorry, I don't remember what it's called), etc.

Congratulations Amanda!!! That is so exciting!!! As for the wedding, i would make a list of everything that you and your fiance find important. Starting with children allowed, large facility, then go to things like do you want a beach ceremony? Private reception? Price range? After you make a list it'll be a lot easier for you and your travel agent to narrow down the search on the perfect wedding resort! Good luck and best wishes!
  16. Welcome Lisa!!! I got married at the Akumal side and I LOVED It! Although I had a private pool side reception, so I can't help with the dinner selections too much. I do know that my guests at at Tortuga and LOVED it... but I didn't know it was one of the options for weddings. Either way... check out this thread: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t786
  17. Congratulations Kelly!!! That's such an amazing deal!!! and I didn't know you were right up the street from me! I live about 20 miles north of Milwaukee! How fun! We should get together some time!
  18. I have my glucose test on Friday... I'm NOT looking forward to that!! I too have the ice cream/smores/chocolate/anything bad for me needs right now, so being told I can't have it will really suck! Hopefully all is good though!!

Welcome to the forum Katie!! The DR is gorgeous and there are many brides who have gotten married there, so I'm sure you'll find a ton of useful information on this site! Best of luck with the planning!
  20. I think that really depends on what you are looking for. Tulum is the closest, but I think it's the most "touristy" for that reason. Many people have said they LOVE Coba and Chichen Itza way more because it's more authentic and you get more of an idea for their lifestyles. BUT, they are at least an hour away and would definitely be a full day excursion. So it really depends on how much of your trip you want to devote to it. Also, the Tulum ruins are on the beach (GORGEOUS beach) and that's a big draw for many.
  21. Yup, I paid for everything via credit card when I left. the only thing that you can NOT pay for with credit card (must be CASH) is the DJ.
  22. Honestly, being the pregnant hormonal person I am right now (I'll be 7 months tomorrow...) I probably would cry if my husband went without me Basically, just because I'd be SO jealous and I'd want to go so badly. I know it'd be terrible of me to stop him, and I'd probably still let him go... but I'd cry. And since I'd cry, he'd probably not go. BUT, being very limited in what i could do, although I too would MUCH rather go ziplining or do something adventurous, at this stage in the pregnancy I'd take a massage. And then if I had something to do instead of just sitting by myself... maybe I'd be okay?
  23. They actually don't usually SELL your info for bridal expos, but they give it freely at most. I have been a vendor at bridal fairs before and they give you the entire list of brides who attended. It really does suck, but the good news is that by the end of the year, they should stop! Unlike annoying credit card offers!
  24. I have to agree with Abbie. Coming from a photographer perspective, you will want to talk to your photographer WELL in advance if you expect them to airbrush out tatoos. Airbrushing isn't just a click of a button. It requires a lot of time and effort to make it look right. And since she's a bridesmaid, she'll be in A LOT of photos. Which means MANY extra hours for your photographer, which probably wasn't factored into the price that they gave you. Second... and I honestly don't intend to sound mean, but this to me is like asking a friend to be a bridesmaid... and then UNasking them when they get pregnant. I think that's one of the most rude things ever, simply because they won't fit into your dress or your pictures the way you had them in your mind. This is a GREAT friend. Someone who you love and trust to stand there beside you on the biggest day of your life. THAT'S what's important when looking back at the photos, not the fact that she doesn't fit the cookie cutter mold of being the most beautiful looking bridesmaid. IMHO.
