  1. Hi Jen! This forum is an awesome resource, so don't be intimidated. It was my first forum I've ever been a part of when I first joined and I had no clue what I was doing either... but trust me, you'll get the hang of it quickly! Enjoy your time here and happy planning!
  2. What is she doing in that second photo It looks like she's raising up her hand and saying "why me lord?" Or something like that. ROFL
  3. That is vague. I think they are trying to dance around the issue because they make money if you book their photographer. But she clearly doesn't say that you CAN'T have your own photographer. Hmmm... that stinks.
  4. Welcome Elana! Your dream wedding sounds awesome! I don't think we've had anyone rent out an entire hotel in the Cancun area. I know in Cabo we had a few do it with the Cabo Surf hotel. Hmmm... very interesting. I would suggest contacting one of the forum's travel agents and hopefully they can help you. Happy planning!
  5. Welcome to the forum! Yeah, Disney weddings are beautiful, but I understand that budget concerns. If you'd like to honeymoon in Negril, what about getting married somewhere similar but just a little different. Perhaps Montego Bay or Ocho Rios? Then you're not spending so much time traveling and you can spend more time enjoying each other!
  6. Welcome Stephanie! Dreams Tulum seems to be an AWESOME resort to get married at, but if you got engaged there, then you already know that! How cool. Make sure you share pictures, because, as you'll soon find out, we LOVE photos!
  7. Congratulations and welcome to the forum Emily! This forum has a bunch of information on Hawaii weddings, so I hope you find it useful! Have a great day and happy planning!!
  8. I hear this is an AWESOME restaurant in Playa... Alux Cave, Playa del Carmen - Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor
  9. I would go with Sarah from the forum. Her monograms are $5 and are amazing. It's totally worth the $5!! Sproullie Designs - Monograms
  10. I have NO idea how I stumbled across this site (I was honestly looking for wedding show booth setups! LOL) but anyway, apparently this photographer has shot a wedding at the GBP and I thought the images were great, so I thought I'd share! Hola!

Welcome to the forum Jenn! Dreams Cabo is one of the most popular resorts on this forum so you will find SO much great information!! Best wishes, and happy planning!
  12. Welcome Shannon! I'm actually photographing a wedding there in early November, so if you'd like me to take any pictures of the resort for you, just let me know! Happy planning and welcome to the group!
  13. I actually will be "sneaking" onto a Sandals property in early November. I won't lie, I'm nervous about it, but hopefully everything will go okay. The original goal was for me to stay at the resort, however it is booked! So the bride has paid for me to stay elsewhere and have a day pass. So my assistant and myself will be coming onto the property early in the morning. Completely dressed as beach goers. I will NOT be bringing very much equipment with me, as it truely isn't needed. So I will have one lens on my camera and then one lens on my backup camera which my assistant will take in. The bride knows the risks, but hopefully we will be happy "guests" to her wedding.
  14. Oh that's sad. I know how upsetting it is to get excited about something and then have it fall through. I'm sure it was an honest mistake, but it still stings. Thankfully this happened with plenty of time before your wedding, so you should be able to find another wonderful photographer who will capture your special day
  15. For my group, we used the same travel agent, but we all booked seperately... no group rate. It just wasn't cheaper and therefore wasn't worth it.
  16. oh Janet I'm so glad you posted photos! It looks like your wedding was so beautiful! And you were a GORGEOUS bride!!! As for the resort photographer (I didn't use them... so I can't say much), but double check the SIZE of your free photos. When I was getting married they were really weird sizes. Like 6x7 or something completely odd. And Kirsten, I think the problem is hiring LOCAL photographers. You always still have the option of having a guest photograph your wedding (AKA, flying someone in from the states). It sounds really expensive, but I found when I flew mine in that it was actually CHEAPER (I flew in my photographer from Seattle)! For instance, it's $1062 (via expedia) to fly two people in for three nights to the GBP Akumal for your wedding. Doing the standard package at the resort is $540... plus $200 per event. So just wedding & reception is already $750. Now, what about getting ready shots? Or what about MORE THAN 36 photos!!! And then there is the famous trash the dress sessions. So basically, if you can find a photographer who is willing to travel for expenses alone, or even expenses plus a little fee you will be much better off. Just some food for thought.
  17. oh Janet I'm so glad you posted photos! It looks like your wedding was so beautiful! And you were a GORGEOUS bride!!!

I found that really odd too, but everything worked out perfect! And I didn't get charged until check out, so that was really nice. That way if plans changed with the wedding or I added details or spa services it was just tacked on to that.
  19. Ah! So you're from Wisconsin and planning your wedding at basically the same resort as I did! How awesome is that?!?! If you need any help or details on the resort, just let me know!
  20. Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you could get a lot of questions answered! As the previous posters have said, I would not ship anything ahead of time. Rather just split things up among family and friends who are attending. That's the safest way to make sure that everything gets to your resort.
  21. welcome Del! I'm going to Negril in November and I'm very excited. It's supposed to be a beautiful location Best wishes and happy planning!
  22. Welcome Karen! I LOVE Sedona! We went on a family vacation there two years ago and it was so gorgeous! What hotel have you booked? Is that where you plan to have your outdoor reception? Now, as for finding other Sedona brides, I would just type Sedona into the search box. Although it doesn't appear that a thread has been made for Sedona brides, there are a bunch of threads from people who have traveled to Sedona and used vendors. So hopefully you can find some information.
  23. Welcome to the forum Nicole! I got married in the Riviera Maya in April and it was a perfect month to get married. Great weather! I hope you are just as lucky! Best wishes!
  24. Welcome to the forum Chelle! And congratulations on your engagement!!! This forum defnitely has all kinds of wonderful advice for brides on a budget. You can also search thread titles for "BUDGET" and you'll see where a lot of us have posted what we spent and on what. I found it VERY helpful during my planning! Best wishes!
