  1. I photographed a wedding in Negril where the groom was African-American and the bride was definitely not!! And they jumped the broom. Nobody took any offense to it and it was a great way to incorporate something that was important to the groom. Oh yes, and their broom was a tiny little thing that fit in a normal sized luggage.
  2. I saw many weddings who didn't do the poolside reception. They had their dinner and then typically went to either the Lobby bar which had live music or they went to the Hacienda. When we were there the Hacienda had live music outside before the disco opened. It was so awesome. Everyone just dances in the big square area. When we were there for the whole week I was the only one I saw have a poolside reception, so I saw a LOT of brides at the different live bar areas and they all seemed quite happy.
  3. They set aside a whole section for my group of 35 in the buffet. My WC arranged that for me. It was really sweet of her.
  4. Okay, Juan is AMAZING!!! So if you can swing it to fly him in, I'd totally do that. You can also add something to your signature of your posts asking if anyone else would like to share the costs of his services with you. And if that won't work, there are a ton of photographers on this forum who would be willing to help you out. Good luck!
  5. I'm going against the grain, I say white. I love the way it's tied and I think it's really pretty and just a suttle extra touch. if you went with the pink, perhaps you could tie it in the front instead of the back? Then maybe it wouldn't look so thin
  6. In my personal opinion, I love the Karena Royale. Would you wear a sash with it? I also love the detail on the neckline And the Phillipa: It's very beautiful, but I think the other one just has that extra POP to it.
  7. Good luck Breens! I hope your wedding goes just like you have planned! How long are you at the resort?
  8. As for the photographer, yes, you can have a guest photograph your wedding. However they have to be a guest at the resort for three nights, not just a guest for the day. So you'll want to fly in your photographer. It's usually done quite cost effectively and if you contact some photographers on this forum, I'm sure they'll give you a deal!! Poolside reception... LOVED IT!!! I had my dinner and dance next to the pool. It did cost extra. It was $35 a person. But to me, it was worth it. I wouldn't change a thing! So delicious! We had the DJ, and I would definitely do that again. He was great, kept the party going, and even danced with us. We had a lot of fun with him. And the music was definitely loud enough. At one point my husband and I snuck away to practice our "rock the reception" dance one last time and we could hear it all the way in the lobby! So that was fun. For the ceremony, we added a sand ceremony at the end. It was weird to kiss before hand, however at the time Yuritzia just didn't translate the prouncing of husband and wife. The judge said it in Spanish to make it legal, but the guests had no clue. Then we read our sand ceremony. Kissed again, were pronounced, and partied!

Yup, typically done the day after so that your photographer can stay the least amount of days. As for hair and makeup, most brides just go with it. I personally slept in my wedding hair. Unpinned it in the morning and took the curls and placed them in a loose side pony tail. I loved it. It was casual and I thought very pretty. My makeup I simply touched up slightly and away we went! And yes, tired is typically an issue, but honestly, TTD sessions are so much fun, you forget pretty darn quickly that you're tired! 2. cancun brides - where are you guys taking your TTD photos? i'd love to do them near the ruins on the beach, but is that crazy out of the way? You cannot take pictures at the ruins, but you can take pictures at the beach near the ruins (that is where I take most of my brides). It's very beautiful. But yes, it is pretty far from Cancun. Perhaps you'd want to choose a beach closer to the Playa Del Carmen area or even further north than that.
  10. Not everyone does the TTD super early. Some Riviera Maya brides will choose super early because they can get some awesome golden light photos with the sunrise. I personally started my trash the dress session at 8 am. My husband and I wanted to start early, but not TOO early! We stayed out until 2pm too, so it was a long AWESOME day! I typically suggest to my brides that we go earlier in the morning, around 8 or 9 at the latest. The reason being that the beaches are typically more empty the earlier you go. As it gets later in the morning people wake up and get to the beach and you'll have the Speedo man in your pictures! Also, with the direct sunlight, shadows become a problem and HEAT becomes a problem!
  11. OMG! That is WAY too cute! I love the tails. That is just precious!
  12. Hi Danielle! This forum has a TON of awesome photographers who I'm sure would be willing to photograph your wedding in Mexico! As for a DJ, I have heard of DJ Bijan being really reasonable. Best wishes!
  13. This is nuts! Okay, first off, welcome to the forum, blah blah blah, you'll love it here, everything you need to know, blah blah blah. But now onto the important things!!! 1. You're from Wisconsin! I love seeing fellow WI brides on here! Especially on a day like today with all of this snow!!!! 2. Your name is Trisha... spelt the RIGHT way!!! Mine too!! how fun! Good luck planning!!
  14. i wore shoes, my husband wore flip flops. It was his wedding day too, so I let him do what he was most comfortable with. And you really don't see either of our feet in the ceremony pictures as they are covered in sand.
  15. Congratulations!! How awesome is that?? SO jealous, especially with all of this snow that's coming down today!
  16. Nope, you're done! okay, that's not really true. But I didn't even get my license appostilled or anything. I just took the wedding certificate to the Social Security office, then to the DMV, and ta-da, all done!! Wisconsin doesn't file if you aren't married in the state either.
  17. I know Tammy B does marathons all over. She is doing one in Chicago in the end of February, perhaps if you contacted her she could do one in Indy??
  18. What about putting together a photo book of your childhood and growing up with her? Put some beautiful quotes in it about how she's made you the woman that you are today. I truly think something heart felt like that would be the best thing to get someone who means so much to you.
  19. Welcome to the forum Krista!!! It'll be really nice to get out of cold Denver in January and enjoy your friends and family on the beach for your wedding!!! Congratulations and best wishes!
  20. This is pretty typical and usually they will work together to make sure they aren't in each other's way. As long as you hire professionals, it should not be a problem to do both during the ceremony.
  21. Usually you will not have to pay the fee if they are a guest at the resort (not just for the day), however there is usually a 2 or 3 night minimum stay.
  22. Lots of summer brides! That makes me excited! I'm so thrilled to see all of your reviews and photos!!! okay, walkie-talkies. They come in packs of 2 at Walmart. I want to say they were $20?? We go on a lot of trips (I'm a destination wedding photographer... after all! ) So we already had them (8 of them) and we have used them on all of our trips. We handed out the 8 (1 per room) to our parents and bridal party and then we suggested to everyone else that they buy them and bring them. They work perfect throughout the resort. I just told people to turn them to channel 1 in their welcome letter and it worked perfectly. That way we didn't waste our trip sitting in the lobby waiting for people to arrive at the resort. My only suggestion is TURN THEM OFF when you are taking a nap or going to bed!!! The only thing worse than an early morning wake up call is a random drunk call at 4 am asking if anyone wants to go to the disco! LOL
