  1. Yeah, I would have the travel agent contact the resort. It's pretty typical now that photographers must say on the resort property... otherwise pay a heft fee to bring one in.
  2. Great review Sunnyee!! I'm sure this will help a ton of future brides!
  3. Clouds are such a wonderful thing! No harsh shadows in your pictures, no squinting, no sweaty pits (LOL svetayasofiya). As a photographer, I LOVE me some cloudy days!! As for the rain, I have experienced that it likes to rain in the early morning and late in the evening. It doesn't rain too often during the day. So you should be fine. Don't get too worried about it. And if it DOES rain, make the best of it. It's your wedding day!!!!
  4. Congratulations on your engagement Leigh!! That must be so exciting!! And the Moon Palace is a beautiful resort for a wedding. Best wishes!
  5. LOL. Unless they extended their vacation, shooting a destination wedding is the furthest thing from a vacation!! This is a very common misconception. You see, we are there for our job. We take it very seriously. Yes, we like to have fun, but there really isn't much time. here was my last travel experience 4:30 am - Leave for airport 5:00 am - get to airport... find out my flight got delayed. Awesome. 9:30 am - finally leave MKE airport. Missed my connection. Lovely airline lady REMOVED me from the next flight (I had booked both to be safe). Awesome again. Next flight, 5:50 pm Delayed until 6:45 pm Get on plane. Sit in plane until 8:30 pm. Finally leave ATL airport. Arrive in Cancun. Get into transfer van. Get into car accident. Awesome yet again. Arrive at hotel at 1:30 am. Get to my room, get everything ready for the next day, go to sleep at 2:30 am Wake up at 6:30 am. Run around the resort like a crazy woman so I know where to take photos. 8:30 eat breakfast 9:30 get back to the room. Pack my bag and double check I have everything. Leave to start photographing their wedding. 10:30 pm. Done. BUT... now I have to back up all the images because you certainly don't want anything to happen to them. And having the images backed up is essential! 1:30 am. FINALLY DONE! Good night! 5:30 am GOOD MORNING!! Time for trash the dress!!! 8:30 am breakfast 10:00 am leave for airport So... it's not a vacation. But let me tell you, photographing destination weddings is my passion. It's the best!! And I'm sure many other photographers agree. We don't do it because we make a fortune. We don't do it for a free vacation. We do it because we love it, and we love capturing people on the happiest day in their lives!
  6. Congratulations and welcome to the forum!! I got married at the Akumal side and it was AMAZING!! Seriously, awesome! If you have any questions, please don't be afraid to ask! Best wishes!

    ~Hello~

Welcome to the forum Patrice! Where in Riviera Maya are you thinking?
  9. Welcome to the forum Jessica! I'm from WI too, West Bend to be specific! Congratulations on your April Fools (hopefully) wedding! I got married in April down in RM and it was GORGEOUS!!!! Best wishes!

I was going to suck it up and pay the $3500, but I really wish I could get more for my money. For $3500, you should be able to get WAY more!!! No idea which Palladium you're going to... and travel prices for 2011 aren't out yet. But it looks like it'd cost less than $1500 for two people to fly and stay at any of the Palladium resorts (according to 2010 prices). You should definitely be able to find a photographer who will give you full day coverage of your wedding plus a trash the dress for $3-3,500. Definitely start with the photographers on this site. Send them an email, check out their work. Never hurts to ask!
  11. Not sure what threads you are referring to, however if you go to the search function up top on the right hand side, and do advanced search, you can type in your own user name and search for threads that you started.
  12. Welcome to the forum Jessica! Tammy B Photography and myself are going to be photographing a wedding in St Thomas next month! We are SO excited. It's such a beautiful place!! And the villa that you have picked out... looks AWESOME! I LOVE the covered porch area! Is that where you'll have your reception or cocktail hour?
  13. I don't know much about Illinois, but we camp all the time up here in Wisconsin! There are SO many wonderful places, it's ridiculous!! Kohler Andrae State Park is one of my favorites. Mauthe lake is where we go whenever we get a free weekend, as it's just 20 minutes from our house. Further up north there are some great camping places with beautiful waterfalls on hikes. It's super awesome.
  14. Beautiful pictures Nora! And Jennifer, you looked gorgeous!!
  15. As mentioned above, the Barcelo properties have one. It's open air and SO beautiful!!! Ii stumbled upon it and it really is gorgeous. It's surrounded by fountains. It would be perfect for a wedding!
  16. This really does suck! I'm so sorry for the runaround that you've been given. Definitely try and talk to a manager about the fact that your SIGNED contract says 15 photos for $200. Like you said, it's not much, but at least it's SOMETHING!
  17. Welcome to the forum! I just photographed a wedding at Barcelo maya Palace and they had a TON of stuff for kids to do, including their own water park. There seemed to be children having fun everywhere, and the staff were all very welcoming and accomodating to them. On top of that, it is a gorgeous resort for adults too. Very beautiful
  18. I agree with the hanging jewels. I actually have a picture of this as an inspiration picture for my wedding... but it's pasted in a word document!!! But it looks so beautiful with the sun hitting them. It's basically these: Acrylic Beaded Curtains and Door Beads, 100's of styles, Bead Curtains I really like these ones: Beaded Curtain "Pussycat" Faux Capiz and Diamante Duo
  19. What do YOU want out of your TTD photos? Do you want a city atmosphere, beach photos, garden photos, etc? The reason I ask is Playa is definitely a city atmosphere, but if you wanted beach shots, since you're at Dreams Tulum I would just recommend going to Tulum. But... perhaps you've asked for something specific and that's why your photographer wants to go to Playa?
  20. It appears that your flickr account is private, so we can't see the pictures. You'll have to either upload them to photobucket, or make the pictures public in flickr.
  21. if it makes you feel any better, which I'm sure it won't, I'm still waiting to hear congratulations (much less receive a card in the mail) from my sister-in-law. She just never acknowledged the fact that we got married. And she lives 5 minutes away. It's not like we haven't seen her!
  22. Devils advocate... but did you ever think about flying in a photographer? I have heard that if you have them stay at the Sandals property for three nights as your guest you can use them (and I had no troubles when I photographed a wedding at Sandals Negril in November). I've entered a few airport combinations, and it all comes in right around $2,000 for two people to fly and stay at the Whitehouse for three nights. If you can find a photographer who is portfolio building, and they will let you pay right around the $2,000 mark, is it worth it? With the prices listed above, that's the cost of only 100 pictures on a disc. And remember, those 100 pictures aren't even edited (per the post above... I don't know if that's true). So you can have 100 pictures from the resort, or you can pay for two professional photographers to fly down, capture at least 2 days worth of photos (wedding and trash the dress) and provide probably close to 500-1000 images on a disc. Just a thought.
  23. Welcome to the forum, I was there with Tammyb and it really is a beautiful resort! And I have heard of Wicks and hear it's a good place for receptions! So that's really cool!! Best wishes
