  1. Welcome to the forum Shannan! you'll be getting married the day before my birthday! That's fun!! And don't worry about the time frame, 5 months will be plenty. And then it'll be here sooner! Yippee for wedding vacations (especially getting out of cold Chicago in January!!!)
  2. Welcome to the forum Heather! The Azul properties are gorgeous! Your wedding will be a blast. Best wishes!
  3. This looks like a GORGEOUS location to have a wedding! Congratulations Tokyo!
  4. I LOVE this hotel: Tulum Hotels- Best Tulum Luxury Hotel- Mezzanine- Mexico Boutique Beach Resort It's a small and intimate hotel where you could host all of your guests. And the beach... UNBELIEVABLE! Seriously, best beach in Tulum. AMAZING!!
  5. I loved doing the thumb print! It really made it feel official! But, word to the wise, have your husband pack a little hankie or something in his pocket to wipe your thumb off! I accidently got some on my dress and black against a white dress... it was noticible!
  6. WELCOME BACK!!! I cannot wait to hear more and read your review. And of COURSE see pictures! I bet you were just a gorgeous bride!
  7. Just to answer a question on the last page, I was at the Barcelo in February and I could NOT fit my laptop into the safe. i have a 17" laptop and it was no where near close to fitting.
  8. Well, obviously prices aren't out for 2011 yet, but it looks like it's about $1500 to fly two people in to the Gran Caribe for three nights. So it looks like you'd need to find a photographer who is willing to travel and shoot your wedding for a portfolio build. Then you'd get full day coverage, and if you're lucky a trash the dress session too!
  9. Mind, be at ease! Seriously! It's an AMAZING resort with something for everything. Every one of my guests loved it, and a lot of them didn't want to stay there in the first place, so to change someone's opinion... that takes a lot.
  10. Echoing the thought that some resorts won't hold weddings on a Sunday. But I'd choose a Friday anyways. In your guests mind, it usually makes it easier. They can travel for a long weekend. For some reason the psychology of staying a long weekend into Monday/Tuesday doesn't sit as well with people.
  11. The brides that I have worked with have said they were getting a trail hair and makeup run done, and then going out with the bridesmaids.
  12. So you're wanting a photographer to go to Turks & Caicos with you... but be located in Florida for ease of use?
  13. I photographed a wedding at Sandals Negril, so it's definitely possible. The photographer simply has to be a guest at the resort, and it's best if you work with the TA's from this forum, as they have a great relationship with the resorts and can get it approved.
  14. Honestly, I think going back to work was the best thing I could have done for my baby and for me. I'm just WAY too social of a person that staying home with her made me crabby, and then a bad mom. Don't get me wrong, I love having time with her, and playing with her... but ALL day, EVERY day, was too much for me. I wasn't creative so we just did the same things every day and it drove me bonkers!! And she LOVES daycare. She literally gets excited to get in her carseat and get out when we're at school. She loves it. She loves the teachers, the interaction with the kids, and the food! Plus, she's learned so much by being around older children. It really is wonderful! So, to each their own. Just imagine yourself punching those people in the face and smile and walk away
  15. I would definitely say, what's your budget? Because affordable is different in everyone's eyes. Especially when you take into account what you get from each different photographer. But, if we know your budget hopefully people can suggest photographers for you.
  16. I would definitely recommend hitting the link on the top of this site. They not only had destination weddings themselves, but have helped a lot of us. I know I've used Tammy a few times and she is great!
  17. I photographed the wedding with Tammy at the Barcelo Maya Palace and the guest list was 14 people, and that included Tammy and myself. It was a beautiful wedding and they still had a great reception filled with lots of dancing.
  18. I just officially started back into this last night. I started from the beginning... and it was tough. I feel akward pushing a stroller while running, and it's much harder. But, I have no choice and hopefully it will make me stronger. I do really love the C25K program for my iTouch though. It's much nicer than having a piece of paper or watching a stop watch. So... here's to progress I suppose!
  19. Congratulations on your little girl!!!!!
  20. I would check how much it costs per photo. That's usually how resort photographers do their pricing. That way you can compare not only their quality, but also their price. It might not be such a good deal when you add it up.
  21. As the ladies above have noted, this is personal preferrence. Not all resort photographers are terrible. But most certainly aren't cheap. For instance, at the resort where I got married, you got 10 free wedding photos (6x8 in size). if you wanted digital negatives, it was around $20 a photo. To put together an album alone you would need 80-100 photos, so that's $1600-2000. And honestly they aren't the best quality. Now, photographers IN the area. Wow. There are some AMAZING photographers in the Riviera Maya. Seriously, A. Mazing! There are also some who are not so amazing. But Elizabeth Medina, Del Sol, Juan Carlos (Cabo)... these are some of the best. They too aren't cheap. But you honestly get what you pay for when hiring photographers in the area, and these ones are great! Flying photographers in... this is where it gets tricky and it's not always the "you get what you pay for" idea. Sometimes, yes. But sometimes photographers just like photographing in beautiful locations. Or want to grow their portfolio, so will give you an amazing deal. Typically this will run anywhere from $2000-5000+ (including travel). It really depends on the photographer and their fee. But, wouldn't you rather pay $2000+ for FULL wedding coverage (full day coverage, trash the dress, full resolution disc of 1000 pictures) versus paying $2000 to a resort photographer and getting 100 kind of not so good photos of your wedding day? What's a better value??

    Maui Bride

Congratulations and welcome to the forum! Maui is GORGEOUS and will make for a perfect wedding location! Best wishes to you!
  23. Swank I'm so jealous of you! Have an amazing time and enjoy every second of it! It's cold and rainy here in Wisconsin today, so a WONDERFUL day to leave!!
  24. Echoing what Nathaniel and Jeff have said. We are not allowed to contact you, you'd have to contact us. But there are a bunch of us who would be willing to do so, but you should check out everyone's work and find someone who fits best with you! Best wishes, and good luck! I photographed the Barcelo this past February and it was GORGEOUS, so I'm sure you won't have trouble finding someone!
  25. Wendy, I LOVE your new trash the dress dress! The only thing, I wouldn't remove any of the lining. Getting it wet will make it more see through, and you certainly don't want that!! My dress was very heavy in the water, but it's not too big of a deal.
