  1. thanks for the help - i called the number that was listed earlier on the site but they asked me to call back in half an hour - I will try again then. I just want to secure a date, my photographer and order my dress...lol...those are the pressing things that have to be done apparently now - keep reading other girls posts who are so far ahead of the game than me and it makes me panic-y...lol...
  2. I have been emailing Riu and can't seem to get a response for dates they still have available for October/ November 2007...arrghhh!
  3. Welcome!!! I am looking to be married in Oct/Nov of 2007 and that is all I know so you are way ahead of me. The girls on here have amazing ideas and helpful information so you are in the right place.
  4. If you have an Old Time Pottery store or something similar (sam's club style home goods store) they sell ribbon that is about 10-12" wide and comes in really long lengths. The edges are already finished and all that needs to be done is unroll the ribbon down your tables and cut the ends - I did this for our thanksgiving party (no pictures - sorry) and it was super cheap. 8.99 for 10 yards of fabric - it was a gold transparent ribbon and was gorgeous over white linens. This could be an option for a super cheap and easy runner.
  5. I would ask around and see what people say. We were recommended a wholesale diamond guy in my home town - Naples FL who is ultra good on deals. He will remake any ring for less and gives awesome pricing on the diamonds. I don't know my total cost but I do know that we (Stupidly) fell in love with a Mark Schneider design and bought the ring (Without the center diamond) and this jeweler could have made the ring for half the cost. I would ask around and see who people suggest (definitely not a huge company) and then find a ring you like and have them replicate it. My FI wants a spinner wedding band and our jeweler will have it made for half the cost I could buy it for. He rocks. If you can't find anyone up your way (that you feel confident about) I can give you this guys number and maybe he could recommend someone in your area. Good Luck - your ring is going to be gorgeous.
  6. We are having a bon-voyage/paper signing party to see us off because I can not even imagine coming back from the wedding and having to oversee another party. My parents have always wanted my grandparents etc to see us get married so we are going to have an informal moment in the party where everyone can watch us officially sign the papers - then we are just doing heavy apps and beer wine sangria and margaritas - possibly a tequilla shot bar - and we are having it at a friends house. About 100 people or so - this was the only way my rent's would let me have a destination wedding and leave the majority of my family out of it. So this fits everyone - and I am having my mom's wedding dress made into a white casual short cocktail dress. Only thing I am making sure of is that the cost stays down and I have to figure out how to word those invites...hmmmm
  7. Thanks for all the support. I was just hoping that I wasn't the only one who had these bizzare ring instances. I always think of the best come-backs after the fact and it just burns me up because I feel like so many girls are forgetting the ring is a symbol - of love and commitment. Sure they are pretty but what it comes down to is that this man at this moment wants to spend the rest of his life with you. Diamonds are a new trend in engagement rings and realistically their quality is purely ficticious. They are made of the same material as pencil lead and just because society deems them the most desirable is all that made them so. I have decided that the next time someone asks my carats (not a close friend or family member but a catty girl) I will respond 18 - cuz thats my ring - 18 carat white gold. Lol --- oh yeah, I have all the good come backs ready...lol...You guys rock.
  8. I am just wondering if I am the only this happened to, or if it is fairly common. I have quickly realized that weddings turn people a little crazy (inlaws and my own parents were a tad psycho the first month). So - I had been engaged only a week, one friend was furious she wasn't at the engagement and everytime I see her she asks to try my ring on - weird - she is married (unhappily) and has a huge 3+ carat ring that is gorgeous. This other girl I barely know (her fiance and mine are friends) asked right off the bat before anything else how many carats my ring was. Then she proceeds to tell me that she didnt want round (which I have) because it's too boring. She and her fiance have been together say maybe 6 months, and says that the reason she got 1.75 carats is because she has earned it. Sorry for the complaining but I was just wondering if other people were having the same sort of encounters. here is a picture of my pretty - i know you all posted on the other site but I thought I would include mine here.
  9. i love seeing everyone in there gowns...what a pretty bunch of brides!!!
  10. the fiance is dead set on riu - must make huge decision soon...ahhhhh
  11. thanks for the clarifications....some of us are ssllllooowwwww.... lol...
  12. quick clarifications (perhaps I am just retarded) so the pricing at the bottom of each package is deleted if you book for 7 nights or is that an actual reduced fee? So confused.
  13. This is awesome - even though i can't open everything. I am between dreams and riu but my fiance is dead set on Riu. He likes the proximity to the night life and the additional on site options of things to do. It looks like I will be a Riu bride as well.
  14. Alas, I do not have enough points to open it either...drag nabbit...
  15. thanks for the info. Have you or anyone else on here experienced the horror stories that seem to be prevelant on the web concerning Riu's horrific food and hotel rooms with mold leaks etc?
  16. Ok, So I have spent all morning reading reviews of Dreams and Riu and I am at a total loss. Apparently about 1/2 the people hated the locations and the food. I am a total foodie and our group is fairly upbeat and like to drink - alot. Who has eaten at both places and what were your takes? I keep reading comments that Dreams is quiet at 10pm - we are partiers. I love the gazebo at Dreams and overall it seems people enjoyed the food more there and apparently Riu has some sort of sewer smell? October 13 is my hopeful wedding date (13 is my lucky number). Any help would be fabulous.
  17. Wow - Ameebs - you look amazing. I love that dress. I am completely obsessed with Maggie Sottero gowns. I am desperately wanting to try on the Maggie Sottero Mia Lynette but its old and no one has a sample in FL.
  18. Thank you guys for all the welcomes. We think we have narrowed it down to dreams and riu in los cabos. I am hearing better things about dreams and am leaning that way. We are having around 20 people and a small budget. I just got engaged on new years and had no idea how crazy weddings are. I originally thought we would get married in Italy - but whoa is that a difficult location to plan + it is a lot of travel time for our guests. I totally want an all inclusive hence dreams/riu. Amazingly enough we have already had people invite themselves, tell us what to do and had they family fights about money...whew...wears me out.
  19. Toby October 13, 2007 Cabo San Lucas MX super excited, super overwhelmed, and super happy all this info is available
