  1. I flew Continental and carried mine on. I was expecting some kind of special treatment about hearing everyone else's stories...I even wore my "Bride" tank top. I also saw lots of ladies in the airport with big old dress bags. The closet they had to store my dress in front was about three feet tall, so not that great. One of the connections they let me lay it flat in first class. All-in-all, it wasn't too much of a pain, but I knew I was having it pressed when I got to Mexico, so no sweat about the close quarters. In no stretch of the imagination would I ever have checked my dress. You have to just be adamant, especially since they cost so much.
  2. Hey Steve and Denise I just got married in Tulum, and have also stayed in Akumal a few times. Let me know if i can be of any help.
  3. I'm in the midst of making 20 of these for our AHR. But we're using wood glue for some and making squares instead of triangles, and then stacking them catty-corner on each other. I'll do pictures when they're done.
  4. Sweet! Thanks everyone! I sort of played it by ear and went to Ikea and got some frames. Unfortunately they didn't have any hinged ones, so we just got a bunch of frames and are using wood glue to put them together. We also have to paint them since they're in natural wood. Sarah, did you use b&w or color, and if mixed, which did you like better? Karen, it was actually Martha Stewart's idea, so take it away. And tell your dear husband that his work will be featured prominently this weekend. Is yours on the 4th or the 11th? Ours is the 4th. I'm stoked to get do have a "do-over" reception since I was sick on my Mexico one. You guys should fly down, it'll be full circle! I'll post pictures once they're done, but they're coming along nicely.
  5. I know I got the idea from this forum, but I can't find the directions anywhere...even after doing a search. Anyone know how to do those photo luminarias where you print them on vellum paper? Sorry I've been out of touch lately, but since I've been back from the wedding, I've been hard at work on the AHR and my actual job as well (bummer). Back soon with a review!
  6. Mikki, I can just picture you filling all the pencil holders and potted plants with gasoline, then walking out of the building, sunglasses on, in slow motion, flicking a cigarette over your shoulder... And Kate, my MB ring, weim, Dreams twin, love the new sig pic. It's awesome. It reminds me of how me and my dork DH act.
  7. We are! I had originally wanted to walk down the aisle (and posted it here) to "Question" and off to "Such Great Heights" because I felt like it'd be original, but I got down to Mexico and started rethinking everything and listening to all the music on my iPod that I'd downloaded for the reception. And of course I was drinking. So I thought maybe it'd be a good idea to totally change up everything and I went with "Baby I'm Amazed" as my processional and "Here Comes the Sun" as my recessional. We love the Beatles, my son (and only wedding attendant) is named Jude, and I thought it would be perfect. It was, actually. Even those drunken decisions can sometimes be good ones.
  8. Jamy- That's one of those songs I would've never thought to use, but as I think about it, it's really perfect, isn't it?
  9. Tami- Also, there is a very pretty, slow version of "Such Great Heights" done by Iron and Wine. Might also make a good processional if your choices don't work out.
  10. These are pretty funny. What a great thread! I wish I could post my entire wedding video, because the minister who did it was hilarious (unintentionally). I couldn't understand many of the (HEAVILY accented) things he said, and at one point, it sounded like he said, "your love is endless...like the grapes" and you could see the confusion on my face while he kept repeating it, until then he motioned to the sea behind him and said, "you can hear them now" and I realized he was saying "waves." Also, we requested a non-denominational ceremony, and he did a LOT of LONG praying, in which you can see Michael and I getting antsy and giving each other glances. Then I got the giggles because when it was the "repeat after me" part, neither one of us monkeys could resist saying our vows in heavily accented English. I mean, a little bit of them. I'm sure someone has some great pictures of my new brother-in-law who decided to fall off the wagon after 12 years of sobriety the day before our wedding, proceeded to be wasted the entire day, broke two chairs at the welcome dinner, stuck his head in my boobs when he was hugging me goodbye, and took off his clothes at the outside bar while laying across some tables. He was escorted out by hotel security and THEN was MIA for the 10:00 ceremony the next day...good thing he wasn't the best man or anything. Also, my cousin was so wasted the entire time, that he came in to my welcome dinner, backed up to me doing a booty dance, and sang at the top of his lungs "Oh yeah! Big booty hos!" Good times, my wedding. Good times.
  11. Dreams Tulum IS a wonderful setting. Did you guys ever walk down the beach the other way from the ruins and find the cold water springs? We did that like the next to the last day. They were pretty refreshing.
  12. Amy- It didn't rain...it rarely does for longer than five minutes there. We used the parasols to keep the guests cool.
  13. I thought I had my processional and recessional all figured out, but I changed it like two days before our wedding. I ended up going with "Baby I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney for the processional and "Here Comes the Sun" by George Harrison for the recessional. Since they are both Beatles' members songs, I thought they tied together nicely and I think it turned out really well.
  14. Anny, those pics are awesome! You look beautiful! Congratulations!

  16. P.S. I just noticed I like how it looks like I have weimaraner legs coming out of my short eyelet dress.
  17. You can still get it on eBay. Let me know what size you wear and I'll try to find one for you. I wear an 8 usually, but I got this dress in a 6. And you need booby pads underneath because the top is pretty shear, even though lined.
  18. Okay, here is my story (again) about the five dresses. In my defense: I am probably about the cheapest person you'll ever meet. Seriously. If it's an item of clothing that costs more than $20, I don't need it. So it KILLED me to have to shop for a wedding dress that I'd only wear once and spend all that money on. DRESS #1: So I shopped a bit but it made me feel sick to my stomach so I started cruising eBay. And at the time, yes, I wanted a great big Cinderella dress. Even though nothing I'd tried on that was great big looked decent on me. So I found this dress I liked by this Italian designer that was $$$$, and had a Chinese company copy it for me. I checked their references, feedback, etc. and the price was only $170 including shipping. DRESS #2: In the meantime, I knew I would not want to wear that big old dress to the reception part of the evening since I had a morning wedding and it's July in Tulum. So I ordered a BCBG dress also off eBay which I got for around $100. It's gorgeous and pretty casual, but all rhinestoned up. DRESS #3: When I got the big dress, I wasn't really that pleased at how it looked on me; I still hadn't found one that I considered "the one." So I started looking on eBay for more formfitting dresses and decided I liked the Pronovias gowns. I found a site that was selling them for about $200-$300, but wasn't sure how they fit. So my mom and I decided to go to a boutique and try them on, but ended up "making a day of it" and going to several boutiques. I got talked into trying on a mermaid style which ended up looking much better on me than I thought it would. After an exasperating visit to a very haughty salon, I felt pretty beat up and when we went to the next place (the 5th of the day) and I found something kind of decent, my mom wanted to just buy it for me and be done with it. "no more eBay!" she made me promise. And it killed me for about two months because it was ridiculously expensive, but I do like my dress: DRESS #4: THEN, we decided to get legally married here and I wanted to invite my grandmother because she's, well, old, and it ended up being all relatives everywhere and some kind of great big deal (which I didn't want). So I found a little eyelet dress with tulle underneath at Ross for $19. DRESS #5: And another time when I was shopping at Ross and found a long white dress for about $19 that was a perfect TTD dress, so I bought it. That is why I have more than 1 dress and my (in my mind) reasonable explanations for them. AND, any one of these dresses could be yours! (well, I'm not selling the BCBG dress or the eyelet one).
  19. I'm with Tammy, I would've given anything to have my dogs in the wedding...but I didn't want to stress them out with the plane trip. And my boy dog (the pup) would've been biting everyone in the a$$ and fighting me for my bouquet and my girl dog (the old lady) would've been barking her fool head off because she can't hear herself anymore. Good times! (and I almost followed in Tammy's footsteps and rescued about 5 dogs in Tulum...LOTS of Catholic dogs there)
  20. Annie...I think my mom got them from OTC. I still have some left and could probably sell them to you for less $$$. Some are pink, some are white. How many do you need?
  21. Thanks! Jess, i wasn't so much nervous as suffering from food poisoning. Yikes!
  22. Hi Annie- I just got married at Dreams Tulum a week and a half ago and we used the videographer that the hotel provided (Oscar's Videos http://www.oscarvideo.com.mx) and he was great. I brought my own photographer, Sasha Haagensen (http://www.sashaphotos.com who I think did a great job. I know that Sol Tamargo is very familiar with the resort and I think she and her fiance like to shoot there...I don't know how much you want to spend on a photographer since it's a small wedding. The resort photographers did a great job of other people's weddings while we were there, too. So that's an option. They do, however, post your pics in the dining room for people to view/buy, which is a little strange, but I know if I'd gone that route, I would have been pretty happy with the immediate gratification of leaving with pics in hand, and I know my guests would have bought several. Anyway, hope this helps! Laura
  23. Karen, meeting you and Jay (recognizing you on the balcony like a crazy stalker!) was one of the high points of the trip, seriously! To my Michael B/Dreams/weim twin: the necklace was seriously a jumble of about five that I got from Claire's and (gasp!) WalMart. And yes, I do believe WalMart is evil. To my bloodhound connection: I nearly adopted about 18 dogs while I was in Tulum. Have these dogs ever heard of abstinence? And to everyone, thanks for all the kind words. Even though I was about to pass out most of the time (and had to have a shot in the a$$ of phenergan administered by my FMIL while I was getting ready), I was so happy with everything and wouldn't have done anything differently. Except maybe skipped the sashimi the night before.
  24. Like I said, Jay, the ones you took were awesome! Thank you so much. You can hardly tell I was throwing up in my mouth a little the whole time... (In fact, one of them is my new Myspace picture. I know, I'm a nerd) The videographer did a GREAT job. I wish I knew how to post the video, because it is awesome as well. Man, I need to learn some new adjectives!
