    Dreams Tulum

Hey... I'm getting married at Dreams Tulum on July 7th. I have a great pic from there...but it's of a hallway. It's really awesome, we've made a print of it. I can't upload it because photobucket is down right now, but pm me if you want it. I've been to Dreams two times before and it's my favorite resort along the RM. The fam and I try to go down at least two times a year, so we've been around. I have a few pics of it on my website www.weddingintulum.com. Hope this helps!
  2. I've been up and down the coast, and I haven't found a beach yet where I couldn't swim in the ocean. My two favorite resorts I've stayed at is Dreams Tulum and Grand Oasis Riviera Maya. Keep in mind that my priorities are non-touristy and small and somewhat classy. The Grand Oasis was great and seemed deserted a lot of the time, but the drinks weren't all that great. Dreams has way better drinks, but the beach is a little rocky (though still swimmable with GREAT snorkeling). Both places you can walk out in the water and have angelfish swarm all around you. I've heard Azul is great, but it is a little $$$. I've stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan a couple of times, and the beach is good, but it's way too big for me. I hear the Iberostar Paraiso whatever is wonderful, some of our friends stayed there and loved it. Again, big and touristy. We also stayed at Catalonia Playa Maroma this New Year's (aka The Proposal) and the beach there is not so great. And that's right next that supposedly great resort Playa Maroma, which we walked past. It looked swank, but the beach was sucky. Does this help? I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but that's my two cents. Good luck!
  3. I originally wanted to do NYE since we met on NYE three years ago (and got engaged then, as well). But since that's high season for Mexico and high season for my work, I knew it would be too expensive for my guests and I wouldn't be able to take two weeks off. So then we thought 777 would be cool, and Dreams had it available, so voila.
  4. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I was telling people at work how I'm now on the computer about 6 hours a day since I got engaged...trying to figure it all out. So, I saw this cute palapa idea for the wedding couple (we're having a morning wedding and then hanging out on the beach the rest of the day with our friends until our cocktail hour). My mom and I are going to hang ivory and blush pink gauze all around whichever palapa my FH and I are going to hang out under that day. That's the idea that I'm currently excited about. I also want to get blush pink rice umbrellas for the ceremony. Seems like I'll be hoisting a lot of luggage. The AHR is still a mystery. I've tried some local city-owned places, and they're in way high demand. We're in a lottery for one, and the other one that is anywhere near decent is only available one time this year. So, still working on that. Phew. Aw, but it's kinda fun.
  5. Anyone at all considering getting one with "the bride" or "mrs. ..." or "just married across the bottom? Or is that so gauche? I am totally toying with the idea of doing that.
  6. We're doing an AHR and it's driving me crazy. Waayyyy too much money to even find a place to host it, much less the catering, band, etc. Yikes!
  7. here I'm going to go being my cheesy self, but I am really thinking about just wearing footjewelry/those barefoot sandals things. http://www.jewelsbymichele.com/produ...otsandals.html Not necessarily these, maybe some I make myself, but you get the picture. I'm pretty tall, so I don't want to tower over my bf with big shoes.
  8. We've probably got at least 20 people coming, but no attendants (aside from my nine year old son, who will be ringbearer). I have some nontraditional songs I want to walk down and off the aisle to. I think I already have my flowers picked out and all that. I guess I'm mostly worried about two things: how to do invitations for the wedding and then the reception do when we get back (not everyone is invited to the wedding) and finding a spot for the reception. Actually, that is just about killing me right now. I can't really find anything to rent for under $4K and I am a VERY frugal bride (bought my dress off eBay) and refuse to pay that much. Yikes. My stomache has hurt for 4 days straight, and I'm still five months out!
  9. I'm getting married in Tulum on July 7th. I'm pretty excited because I love the resort there. It's my favorite one in the RM. I'm also doing OOT bags, thinking about the usual stuff like lip balm and a wedding CD and wine toppers and candles and magnets and maybe a tshirt? My bf is a graphic designer so he's doing our invites, we could use that design and make people some cool tshirts. I'm getting married in the a.m. and hanging out on the beach with my friends for the rest of the day. I can't wait for the hanging out part! We want to have a photographer for that part as well...haven't exactly ironed out all the details for it all. Right now we're sweating the reception venue for when we come back to Austin. Everything's so $$$. Anyway, good to talk to you, let's keep in touch since we're in the same wedding boat. Laura www.weddingintulum.com
  10. Hi! My name's Laura, my boyfriend (we hate the F word) is named Michael, and we're getting married at Dreams Tulum on 07/07/07. We've been there a few times and fell in love with the chapel, although now that we've got a bigger group coming, the chapel is no longer an option. Bummer. Anyway, I'm at a complete loss at all of this, having vowed when I was 6 to never get married. So while my cousins were flipping through magazines and building their trousseaus, I was, I don't know, riding my bike or something. So, basically, HELP.
  11. Since I'm having my wedding in July on the beach and I didn't want my guests to roast, I picked a 10:00 a.m. time. Then we're going to have fun on the beach til the evening, when we will reconvene for a cocktail hour and dinner. I'm hoping to get a second white dress for that. I'm really excited about getting married in the morning! It will be a chance to wear a "Just Married" bikini on the beach. I know, I know, I'm tacky like that...
  12. I thought the photographer was part of our package as well, Lisa! Yikes, is it not? Actually, I'm pretty sure it is. Let me know if you find out something different.
  13. I have the same sort of problem. I don't know how to send everything out: some people are invited to the wedding in Mexico, but not all. We are also having a big reception when we get back. So how the heck do I send out invitations for all of it? I really don't want to mess with a ton of different mailings (i.e. STD for wedding, reception, invitation to wedding, reception, etc). Of course, the STDs for the wedding are already out. Any ideas? The current plan is to have those pocket invitation things where they'll have a choice to rsvp to the reception and wedding if they're invited to both, or just the reception. Then the wording does get tricky.
  14. Look up "Lucha de Gigantes" by Nacha Pop for the guitarists to play. It's beautiful! If you've ever seen Amores Perros, it's at the end of that movie. I'm going to have someone play it at my wedding in July, I think.
  15. I ordered my dress off eBay from gianinarbridal, as well. So far they've been great about sending me pictures of the material they're using and the colors the dress will be. I've been having nightmares about what it will actually look like, but I'm only spending $170, so if it's horrible, I won't be out that much. I did research the company a bit before I bought. I'll let you guys know.
  16. I have been working with Sandra Casillos and when I didn't hear back from my initial emails, I called her. I also emailed the concierge and they all got right on it. I haven't called since. She's sent me flower choices and wedding site choices and menu choices all over email. Hope this helps. Laura
  17. Jason- we've talked before on the other board...I'm getting married three days after you at Dreams! Sandra has not told me anything about a deposit...she said I could pay the whole thing when I get there, so now I'm a little freaked out! What made you guys put a deposit down. Help! Laura
