  1. Some people just cannot stand to see others be happy. Not worth your energy in my opinion.

They only sell them around the December holidays, so a friend of a friend bought them for us and dropped them off the week before we got there.

We stayed at Dreams, we met in the tower lobby at 6pm... took until 7pm for everyone to get there which was right when dinner was being served in the ballroom with a Carribbean show. It just worked out that they closed all the restaurants that night for the Carribbean dinner.
  4. What she said I honestly didn't have a problem with paying extra and the whole we-are-already-at-an-all-inclusive because of the things Jill said. In my head I compared it to what we would have paid anywhere here in the US and it was so inexpensive there. We mainly chose Dreams because of its size, location and beautiful wedding site. The all-inclusive was convenience the rest of the time we were there.
  5. We actually did not. His is titanium, so we could not. We still might get mine done. Here is the thread on engravings: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t5474
  6. Hi LeShay! May I suggest you let them just hang out and enjoy the pool, beach, going to the market or anything else? I only had 41 adults and they hung out together, found things to do and the few things we did have planned other than the welcome dinner and wedding, some people still did their own thing. Which was good because we stressed about it a little and people just enjoyed the resort. This is what we had: Thursday night - out for bachelor/bachelorette Friday - rehersal and welcome dinner Saturday - wedding Sunday - Brunch (no one really showed at 10am... they either got up early to enjoy their last day, or slept in from partying all night!) Sunday afternoon - Jungle tour (only 10 of us went - people wanted to stay at Dreams) Monday - Chichen Itza (6 of us went - again, people didn't want to be away from the resort all day - 7:15am -8:30pm)

Assign someone to make sure they bring them out towards the end of your reception, or whenever you choose to use them... I remembered luckily and had to have one of the waiters get them from Claudia. She was in and out of the reception.... wait, that was me running around She was around the tower lobby area. They brought out a table with lit sterno cans for us to light them. It worked best for them to light a bunch and people walk up and take one at a time... We all bunched around at first trying to light our own. That didn't work very well. They were enjoyed by all!
  8. The DJ's pictures show a cool raised dance floor, while it is very nice, I don't know if the terrace or the tower lobby would accommodate that if you choose to have your reception there. The ballroom would, that is close to the entrance of the resort. Also, Claudia told me they do not allow fireworks. I had sparklers a friend got for me during the holidays specifically for the wedding. She was okay with those once I explained what they were.
  9. The resort is small enough they get to know you. We had only been there a day and all the staff I encountered knew I was the one getting married on Saturday. If you try to walk down from the next resort on either side, there is security there with a clipboard with all current names. So I would not try it. I had two friends show up to drop something off and they would let them in. So the night of the welcome dinner we paid $40 each for 4 people. The day of the wedding they were covered in the cost of the wedding.

What is the average price to get married legally in the states? Thanks for your help! 11. I hope you had a wonderful birthday and are celebrating with your family
  12. I see it now! Hmmm... So I have 14 now, had 10 earlier and I can only see two comments, Morgan and IrieBride08 (thank you both) so the others must be old...

  14. I cannot see my rep comments, when I click on my own scale it tells me I have 10. If I go to User CP I do not see the Reputation anywhere! I must be going mad!

I'd never heard of the garter toss before this website but I love the idea and think I might take on this american tradition as part of a little tribute to DW (without sounding too corny lol) I am happy to answer questions Jodey. Let's seeeee... We had it for the ceremony ($180 +tax in my pricing for last year) It had to be moved for the reception, I think we paid for 3 hours, so times that by 3. I honestly cannot remember if we did the speeches after the first dances or while people were eating... I have some pictures of the garter hunt and toss I willhave to upload. The toss was funny because I chose to play the theme from the Muppet Show and J's step-brother caught the garter on the very last note of the song where there is an off-key horn.
  16. We had music before the ceremony and during the ceremony from our CD (the sounds guy took care of this). Cocktail hour was the included mariachi trio for 45 minutes. We walked into our first dance and father /daughter & mother/son dance. Then we had dinner music from our ipod handled by the sound guy and then the dancing music which also included the garter removal, toss and bouquet toss.
  17. I paid half of what I thought my total would be. I tried to do a bank wire transfer through my bank several times to two differing account from the list, and I could not get it to work either time! My bank was even the middle guy for one of the transactions on their end. I know people have had the wires work for them. We went round and around and they confirmed and we confirmed and no louchk, so she had to make special arrangements for me to pay via credit card, which I was ademant about since I had to send info through email. SO... I would advise to try the bank wire transfer. We were married on a Saturday and checked out on Wednesday, that is when we settled the balance on our credit card.

Did you pay a deposit of 50% ? If so how did you do this if the contract wasn't fanalised untill you got there? Did you still sign the contract but change the odd things afterwards ? Thanx again x I am feeling much better now, thank you. I kept changing things as I would find things out from the forum, but the things I changed are on their site now. I decided I wanted to send her a deposit, after I did I have peace of mind and I left her alone for a few months I paid the deposit in 2007 and I had 2007 pricing, but my wedding was early 2008. I did sign the form when I paid it, but I changed a few more things and then changed some things when we got there. When we met with her, she had to write out receipts for every item to hand into their billing department that I had to sign after we reviewed the final decisions.

I had worked out the cake over email. Similar to one in the ppt she sent, just smaller, so I knew the cost. If I remember anything, I will post. I think we handed out more tips than we expected, because we were so pleased We know it was included, but we wanted to give them more. We had 5 waiters and 2 bartenders, Claudia, the sound guy, didn't see the mariachi trio (no tip - oops).
  20. Yes, it was very nice to have. Claudia did have me talk to them about it, they have to have a minimum now since they have had some bad experiences in the past with it not being worth their while for some events. Keep in mind prices could change.
  21. Please be advised before contracting an outside vendor, you will need to run it by Claudia or Daniela. They only allow certain outside vendors and may require a day pass if they do not work with them. I know they are flexible to some extent. You need to work with their vendors for firedancers, DJs, bands, and flowers. Their have been some exceptions, but I still suggest you talk to the WCs.
