This can easily be done by finding the images you want to use in the background and then using Powerpoint to create your template. For the cardstock, do a goodle search on "Wholesale Cardstock" and you will get a ton of sites listed. Here's a website that had the cheapest price I could find on cardstock: Scrapbook Cardstock

It can get easy to get "lost" because they built the website like a tree'd menu, so you have to use your "back" and remember how many times you clicked for the screen you want to return to...
  4. Here's a website dedicated to messages about the Iberostar resorts. I've found some good wedding reviews there: IBEROSTAR HOTELS & RESORTS MESSAGE BOARD | IBEROSTAR REVIEWS & PHOTOS - Index

If rates are out, I can usually get them blocked w/ a contract in a week. Totally agree. Resorts wouldn't survive if they didn't require "proof" of a client's intentions. Also, I wanted to point out, that after reading a ton of Tammy's posts about blocks, reservations, flights, etc... as well as information from the TA we're using and information I received when I interviewed TA's to make our selection--- I don't think this is really the TA who is requiring this. It's something that falls more on the shoulders of the resorts and the vacation resellers the TA's use for their clients. The TA, it seems to me, is more like your personal representative who knows the industry well enough to know BS when they hear it and to also know how to get rates/deposits lowered for their clients based on their relationship with the resellers/resorts and how much business they do with them. I think the more important thing to point out, is that these are also issues that brides should address with their TA or resort rep prior to making the decision on which location to get married. I think a lot of times, we get so caught in up the wedding package pricing, the optional items pricing, etc... that we don't focus enough on the actual travel arrangements and our obligations for ourselves and our guests. I have a list of questions that I posted on the forum awhile back that is useful when talking to a TA--- it deals with deposits, customer service expectations, etc... it might help some brides to use that as a starting point when trying to select a location/TA.
  6. I'm sure each TA and resort/hotel have variances in the room block, but I think a lot of them ask for the deposit up front but as people reserve, the money for that room goes to your actual travel expenses. I think I've seen a lot of people talk about having to get guests to book their travel by a certain date or the couple has to release the room block and they do wind up getting at least a partial payment back from what they originally put up front. I had these same questions and asked Tammy (host) about them quite awhile ago and she explained some of the in's and out's.
  7. If it doesn't break the bank and isn't too much of a stretch for your budget, then go for it. That dress is gorgeous and if you feel the way you want to feel on your wedding day in it, then do it. Yes, it's a lot of money for a "one day" dress, but that can be said about almost everything brides purchse for their wedding day. For example, at any other time in your life, would you plan on spending thousands of dollars on a 4-8 hour party for a handful of your nearest and dearest? At any other time in your life, would you spend thousands of dollars on photographs? Let's face it, if weddings were a "practical" thing, we'd all be at the steps of a courthouse and eating at IHOP afterward...
  8. My favorite is Givenchey "Hot Coutre" (sure I slaughtered the spelling of all that). This weekend we picked out something different for a change--- Donna Karan's "Cashmere Mist". It's light but has a subtle layer of sensuality (from pachuli) to it. The other strong runner was Ralph Lauren's "Romance".... very light and soft...

Yea, I like the kissing ball idea too- I thought it would be a neat item for a shepherd's hook at the end of the aisles, or even hanging from the chairs at each aisle. Or, hanging from a white chuppah. It doesn't say the exact weight of them... I was wondering about that myself...
  10. That's the other department I would check with: Department of Vital Statistics who oversee the marriage license records. Another one I'd check with is the Secretary of State. Since they issue Apostille's, I'd assume they would know what to do once you return to the states. You might also want to check the laws for your state (Pennsylvania) too regarding what unions have to be registered. I would think that registering the marriage in your home state is just to make things simpler---- like for tax purposes and such...
  11. If an Apostille basically allows someone with authority in the government to translate/authenticate your documents into another language, then wouldn't this be the same department to get your marriage license translated and authenticated once you got back? I don't know if this is an official US agency website, but when I google searched translating foreign marriage license for US, this site came up: Apostille - Legalisation on Line! According to the statment, they translate documents issued by other foreign govenments. Maybe they could provide some information?
  12. I realized this a couple days ago that I hadn't seen the moderator for the RM/Cancun forum on for quite awhile. I just clicked on "See more posts by..." on her siggie/profile, and it shows she hasn't posted on here since February... Granted, I haven't been around all that long, but she used to post all the time and had a lot of great stuff she put up on the website for the resorts/accommodations.... I think we have a Scooby-Doo mystery on our hands!!!

VERY EXPENSIVE and it sucked to have to carry around extra batteries everywhere I went. I was lucky if I could shoot 100 pictures without it dying. Oh, and when the battery was low then the pictures were blurry... so make that 50 pictures. That's exactly what I was going to point out too--- Digital cameras tend to have major issues with AA batteries. If you can find one that has lithium batteries, you will get more photos taken without having to change them all the time. We had an HP that sucks batteries---- I'm lucky if I even get 10 shots before the batteries die. If you go to the Popular Photography website or Shutterbug, you can find some really good reviews of the camera models you are interested in. Definitely check the user reviews too...
  14. I like the Pentax Optio W30. It's 7.0M, and realistically, unless you plan on blowing anything up beyond 8x10, you're going to have good film quality images from 4.0M and up. It's also gotten great reviews, is priced around $230 and is waterproof up to 10 feet below water for 2 hours. It also has macro (can get half an inch from subject) and has stabilization to reduce blur in images and takes video with the quality of a camcorder. It also has a 3x optical zoom. Look online for the best camera prices. I usually buy equipment from Best Camera Prices - Find the best prices on cameras, and accessories from canon, nikon, minolta, sony and many more. Welcome to Abes of Maine Digital Cameras, Camcorders, TV's, Home Theater, DVD Players, Apple iPods (not quite a low priced) Just don't buy the batteries and accessories from camera shops---- usually they get the mark-up on accessories to account for the lower camera price. Great business tactic, but you can definitely get the accessories cheaper elsewhere...
  15. I think the thing that offends me more (in general from everyone who thinks this) is the implication that women should change the way they dress because of the percieved effect it has on women. How about changing the way men behave instead? The other thing I want to point out is that the insinuation that women are drawing attention with their apparel that could put them in a rape situation isn't usually correct. The rape isn't about sex or desire--- it's about anger and control. The offender isn't raping because he thinks the girl is hot. He's usually attacking someone who is more likely to go unnoticed (sober and normally dressed).
  16. I love the hangers---- I dont' know if you were planning on somehow tying the round ones into the door hanger too, but when I saw them my first thought was 'how cool--- the doorhanger and then use the round ones as the tags for welcome bags.' Kind of ties the theme together. I think the design is great! The only thing I'm iffy about is the checkerboard ribbon against the paisley background...

I can honestly say that is the only regret I have about living together before we get married---- I've already had those moments and part of me does wish I would have had them starting from the point of marriage. Did you have the lega ceremony at a local place or in the home? From some of the photos, it almost looks like a beautiful public location, but then in other pics it looks like it was someone's home. The architecture is beautiful----

  19. A statistic or fact can prove whatever people want it to prove. The guests can look at it like they should be afriad that 28 Canadians died in Mexico, but the thing to point out is this---- that's 28 people in 13 years in the entire country---- I'd say that's not too bad considering how ignorant people are about being safety-conscience when they travel.... Go to your government agency that handles foreign travel website and look for safety recommendations and give that to the guests who are truly concerned. Also, you can probably find something on the Mexican government website addressing crime rates in various parts of Mexico. In fact, I know I have that document at home.
  20. Anny, congratulations to you both! I love the simplicity of the dress you chose!
  21. In the RM area, you might want to check the Iberostar Lindo/Paraiso/Maya/Grand complex. They are kid friendly and have everything from baby-sitting services to a teen disco in the evenings. Plus a golf course, a spa, a salon, a shopping center, ice cream parlor, bunch of bars/restaurants, cigar bar.... and I'm sure other things I'm forgetting. Let me know about Azul---- FI loves the look of that place and it's the perfect size for our wedding. We've been thinking of changing our location to Azul Beach...
  22. Tammy, I *love* that dress---- it is absolutely gorgeous!!! You look amazing in it!

You know, I just thought of this---- but check and see if there's an art school in your area. You could probably get the name of a professor who would recommend someone in graphic design who could custom make the design for you. Then you could just buy blank stationary and print them yourselves, or even take them to a print shop and have them print them all.... College students would probably love the opportunity for making some extra money.
  24. I think I'd find the congressman's office and write a complaint letter about it--- That's insane---- It's no wonder people dont want to mess with getting a passport and leaving the country---- It's so hard to stress to people too that even tho a wedding might be 6-12 months away, they should get their passports now to avoid hassles like this with so little time before the trip...
