I haven't heard of announcements for the engagement. I know in more traditional weddings, an announcement is made in local papers for situations like this. Then, once the wedding is over, a wedding announcement will go out afterwards to people the couple weren't able to extend an actual invitation to. (basically, same as a wedding invitation without actually saying they are invited. Normal wording is something like 'so and so were married at x location, on x date, at x time.' Something very simple and basic.) Kind of sounds like maybe this would be good for your situation---

I would register, but not comment on where you are registered in the email. Create a page on your website with links to your registry, and people will find it. Also, word of mouth---- tell MIL and I'm sure she'll let everyone know where you're registered. From what I've seen, the general rule is to basically never write down and send your registry information to people. Pass the info via word of mouth, and refer people to your website, where the information will be included. I can say this from personal experience---- FSIL got married last month and she sent out written cards with their registry information, and it *really* came across like they just wanted presents. Even knowing them and knowing they intended it for convenience- it still came across (even to me) as their desire for presents more than anything else. So I would say keep the info off paper, and just put it on the website and pass the word by mouth...

Frank's ring
MikkiStreak replied to MikkiStreak's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Actually, it's kind of funny because after you posted that, Frank got home and took the ring out and started wearing it around home. I think you are right---- the guys want to wear the rings almost as bad as we do but they just don't show it as much. -
Untraditional Bachelorette Party...
MikkiStreak replied to michelle08's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
When we went to the bridal show last month, there was a chef there who offered custom cooking classes/wine tastings for bachelorette parties. I hadn't really thought about it until then, but I thought that was a really cool idea because most of the people who would be at my bachelorette party are all huge foodies! There was also another guy at the show who had a large sailboat and offered private dinner charters in the evening ($40 per person). I thought that would be another cool idea... -
Kelly--- your day was amazing!!! This is what I love about legal ceremonies--- they are so personal and intimate and completely about the people that matter (bride, groom, and in your situation- all of the kids). I love the church, I love the thought you put into the day, I love the kids involvement in everything, I love it all!!! Congratulations and have a blast in the DR!!!!! Can't wait to see all the photos when you get back!

So last weekend when we put my diamond into a new setting, Frank also found the wedding ring he wanted, so we went ahead and bought it. He's keeping the ring "secret" and doesn't want to show anyone until we get married and he actually starts wearing it. (but of course, this doesn't apply to you guys since he's never met any of you, right? I think he chose a really cool wedding band.... After I posted that, I checked my Paypal account---- I don't use it very often, so for whatever reason I thought my Paypal was linked to an account we don't use anymore. But, when I checked, it's linked to our active account and had already been verified. So I clicked away and you should get payment real soon.

Sassygirl's non-pro pic's
MikkiStreak replied to SASSYGIRL's topic in Post your Destination Wedding & Engagement Pictures!
Wow---- that tablescape is amazing! We're doing light blue, fuschia and black for our colors. I had thought about doing black for the tablecloths to make the other colors "pop" and your photo just re-committed me to that idea!! You looked beautiful! I love the dress, and I'm really envious of the curly hair!!! Congratulations on everything!! -

Crank calling the cop shop. Altho, I did stand at the front door of the police station with a beer in my hand when I was 17 and took pictures of it! hehehe... Ok, let me correct this---- I cost $219. I missed one ten dollar charge for spin the bottle...

Iberostar Help
MikkiStreak replied to Tricia's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Yea, their chapel's are cute and I really liked the one wedding a day and various pricing options for the resort also for guests. The only thing to be careful about are exchange privledges between Lindo/Maya/Del Mar in the Paraiso complex. My understanding is that basically, if you have the wedding at the Lindo and stay at the Lindo, then your guests who stay at the Del Mar are not automatically allowed in the Lindo restaurants. Also, check with the WC on whether there would be a guest pass fee for Del Mar guests to attend your Lindo/Maya wedding. I got your email---- I'll send you everything now. Look for an email from IFG.MCL0108---- that's the email we set up specifically for wedding stuff... Maria -
$209---- there was only one item on the list that I hadn't done...

If you have a travel agent picked out- ask them to get the package information for you on the resorts. Some of the TA's whose business is geared toward DW's will have package pricing in their own files already, and even if they don't- the resorts respond faster to a TA than they do the bride. Our TA has always done this for us. I just give her the name of the resort and she sends me the package pricing in her files. If I'm interested, then she'll get the optional items pricing list for me. And if she's been to the resort, she'll send me her online album of photos to look at so I can get a feel for it... Before I started involving our TA, I felt like I was losing my mind. The response time was horrible and it was taking forever. We looked at resorts and wedding planners in St. Thomas on our own for 4 months, then moved everything to Mexico and tried getting info on our own. After a month of only getting one response back, I got fed up and asked our TA to get involved. Within one month of working with her, we had looked at about 10 resorts and then made our decision.

Iberostar Help
MikkiStreak replied to Tricia's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
They do offer private receptions. If I remember correctly, they offer a private reception in one of the bars for $500. A bunch of us have considered the Iberostar resorts, but most of us changed our minds. There have been a couple brides who did site visits and I know the reason we changed our minds is because of the beach location for the wedding ceremony. It was crowded in between beach chairs and boat rentals, the decor looked really cheap and worn (like Wal-Mart cheap plants in the arch), and the last bride who visited said the walk from the resort to the beach is like a football field length and there was damage to the jungle right where the ceremony would be held. I think I still have their package pricing and optional items price list. If you PM me your email address, I'll send it to you, if you'd like... -
venting bride to be about neg. guest comments
MikkiStreak replied to Golden's topic in Just venting or funnies
When you really get tired of the comments, just start agreeing with them. "Yes, you're right--- I really don't want you to go, so all of my effort for my wedding is going to be spent trying to figure out exactly how I can prevent you from attending." Weddings bring out the worst in people. That, and babies.... -
I have fine hair, but a ton of it, and it's down to my waist. I shed so much that we have to use Liquid Plumr Professional Strength on the bathroom shower drain once a week to keep from having standing water in the shower. But, that will hopefully end this weekend with a haircut!!! If my guy can get me on his schedule tomorrow.

Damn- so what DID wind up winning the prize? I cracked up when I saw the pic---- reminds me of Halloween at the gay bars up north.... -
venting bride to be about neg. guest comments
MikkiStreak replied to Golden's topic in Just venting or funnies
My favorite response back---- "Oh, I'm so sorry you were under the impression that *my* wedding was all about you. Please, stay home and enjoy that Big Mac and "The Notebook"---- we'll toast you with some really quality champagne in the middle of our Surf-N-Turf dinner, after the fire dancers and mariachi's are done performing..." -

I think that sounds aboslutely awesome and perfect!!! It has the casual feel, but with just enough wedding present to not be overwhelming! I've always had a hard time trying to think of how to do an AHR because I just automatically picture a traditional reception. But what you have outlined above is perfect and I think I'm going to have to subscribe to this thread as a reminder for how to do ours when the time comes!

Sorry your title reminded me of this, but with that said you could create a cute drink that people will remember. Good Luck!!! Damn, I had forgotten about that drink! It is SOOOOOOOOO good!!!!! For the blue color---- there's cheap martini mix at Walmart (like a berry flavor) that can be mixed with vodka.... Those would look great in martini glasses... Shots of the Godvia liquor would be great too---- that stuff tastes awesome!!!

Ok, this sounds so gay, like I'm hitting on you or something, but I'm still gonna say it Sometimes you see pictures of people and you think that the person is really pretty. But when I opened this thread and I saw the first two pictures, you just took my breath away! You have such warm eyes! And the photos of you getting ready and walking down the aisle--- you just have that 'regal' bearing!!! And, yes, those fabulous eyebrows!!! Damn, my unibrow/catepillar is jealous!!!!

Thanks Ann! I'm glad you caught my order error and got it corrected in time! That will save me $$ from having to do a follow-up order at the higher price!! I get paid on Friday and will do the Paypal that afternoon when I get home from work... Thanks again for all your help with this!!! Jill, I'm fine with picking them up from your FI... I'll PM you my email address--- just shoot me an email when you get the shipment and then we can arrange a good time for me to pick them up.... thanks!
