Oh, we're going to fight it, believe me. But your words of encouragement about sticking with EDR b/c I love it have helped. I do know that another bride who is having her wedding there is doing the guestlist thing. That's probably the route that we will go, too, but I'd be horrified if we did that and then our photographer would get kicked out on the day of our wedding! But thanks for the encouragement and information - it's very helpful!

I think I'm having my first wedding planning dilemma....My wedding is currently set for April 23, 2008 at EDR, but I'm having serious thoughts to change it. Maybe I'm just fired up about finding out that in order to bring an outside photographer, we have to pay EDR $500 or a two-night stay for the photog. But I just don't think that's right - especially since we will be bringing in at least 40 guests!! But I've heard such great things about EDR that maybe I should just suck it up. If we do decide to change, what are the comparable resorts in RM or Cancun? I would hate to have to start all over again, though!

That's a good idea, but if they "find out" do you think they can kick the photographer out? I'd be scared to have them do that and then be stuck without a professional photographer!! But if they did that on a bride's wedding day, that would be REALLY, REALLY wrong! But I might try the same thing. When are you getting married there?

Add another bride-to-be at EDR onto the list of very upset brides about this fee. I e-mailed one of the WCs at Lomas and she verified the $500 fee, but said that if the photographer is part of your wedding party and stays for at least TWO nights, then the $500 fee would be waived. Woo....so gracious - $500 equals a two night stay in the basic suite. I'm really burned up about this, too. I'm still in the negotiating process, but I (and especially my FI) are about to choose another AI in Riviera Maya. Does anyone know of any other 5 star AI resorts there?

Crinoline Slip Costs
jfwolfe72 posted a topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I got my dress this weekend!! I wasn't planning on it because I went to a local shop in my hometown and I figured the prices would be much more higher than a David's Bridal. However the dress seemed perfect for me, so I couldn't resist getting it. However, now I'm trying to justify the price differential had I gotten it a David's. The dress I got had the crinoline slip thingy already sewn into it - many of the beautiful dresses I saw at David's did not have them as part of the dress, so I'm assuming that the cost of those would have been in addition to that dress. Does anyone know how much those crinoline slip thingies cost? If they're like $100 or $200, then I won't feel as though I overpaid for my dress! I was shocked to learn that their veils were $200! -
What are you paying for your guests?
jfwolfe72 replied to PDCwedding's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We're paying for the same things you are - Welcome Reception (complete w/ a donkey wearing a sombrero and carrying coronas), OOT bags, and reception dinner (which we will hopefully get for "free" as part of our wedding package provided no more than 40 guests show up!!! That's it, though. Our guests are also considering this their vacation, so I don't think anyone is put out by having to pay for their travel and lodging. Whoever you heard of is paying for their travel and loding for all of their guests must be well off!! -
Wearing dress for AHR?
jfwolfe72 replied to mexicobride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Since most of you are wearing yours again and give perfectly good reasons for doing so, I'm going to wear mine too! I wanted to wear it again since there will be so many people at the AHR that won't make it to Mexico, so now I'm glad to know that it's totally acceptable to do so! -
Hi there! Congratulations on finding your wedding location - that's the toughest part! That's why I haven't been on this site for so long - now that I have the location picked, I'm slacking, but NEED to get back to it again! I'm going to be getting married there on April 23, 2008. So far, I've only ever heard positive things about getting married there. I hope it holds up for me, too!

Best Ceremony Time?
jfwolfe72 replied to jfwolfe72's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Very helpful feedback - thanks! And Julie - CONGRATULATIONS on your wedding and thanks so much for sharing your pictures - they are BEAUTIFUL and you looked absolutely gorgeous!! Where did you get married? -
Well my TA, Hayley from BeachBums, is going to talk to the EDR WC when she goes down for her trip in April and will see if they will allow outside photographers. If so, I will definitely try to schedule Claudia. I also sent an e-mail to Faith (the EDR WC) to tell her how many brides are not happy about EDR's new photographer policy and that it wouldn't be so bad if their photographer did a better job....hopefully a little squeaking will get them to look into their policy....

So, THIS is why people say that Destination Weddings are less expensive! I am in the middle of planning for our ceremony in the Riviera May AND for an at home reception at a swanky place back in PA after we return from our ceremony. The costs are getting outrageous, but if we just had the ceremony and reception in Mexico, then it wouldn't be bad at all!! Anyway, I pretty much have to have a reception back home b/c I freaked my parents out by having the DW b/c they had always envisioned the traditional wedding. So, my parents are now going to pay for the AHR and my FI and I will pay for the DW. Seems like a good compromise and hopefully won't break our bank....

Darn! I e-mailed Claudia about her pricing, etc., but since I'm getting married at EDR, she can't do it....unless I foot the bill for her stay. It looks like I'm going to have to use the EDR photographer. But I haven't heard anything good about him/her! Their policy of no outside photogs w/out footing the bill for their stay is wrong....
