  1. I got married in Arizona in October, but it was still in the high 80's/low 90's. I actually wore a hoopskirt as my first layer, and it was wonderful! Hoopskirts keep all those layers of tulle and crinoline away from your legs, and lets air in. I didn't feel hot at all. It was also easier for dancing - DH and I do ballroom dancing, and I wouldn't have been able to move as well if I had just worn a petticoat. (I actually did wear a petticoat over the hoopskirt, b/c my dress was very full, but it worked well and looked great.) There are online sites where you can buy hoopskirts; I'll try to find the name of where I bought mine. It was adjustable, which worked well, and they also have different sizes (ie, 1 hoop, 2 hoops, 3 hoops, etc) depending on how wide you need it to be. I highly recommend using a hoopskirt! Oh, and as for the bra, I definitely needed one, and I wasn't able to sew cups into my dress (wouldn't have worked), so I just bought a strapless "merrywidow" type bra from Victoria's Secret. I loved it, and it also wasn't hot. Quite comfortable, actually.
  2. I agree with whoever suggested that DW brides are simply a bit more laid back. Or... maybe it's just the thought of all that tequila in Mexico? Just kidding! But really, the whole idea of tackling a wedding outside of the country means you have to be a bit more flexible than you might normally be. I honestly don't think I could have done that - I admit it! - but we also only had 4 months to plan, and I went nuts enough as it was. So, kudos to you brides, and I'm sorry I don't have much info on DWs! But hey, if anyone wants to get married in Phoenix, Arizona, I'm there for ya!
  3. You may be biased, but you know what, I think it's true! I've seen quite a few wedding boards...I really loved planning our wedding. Maybe a little too much, 'cause I'm back to wedding forums! :sigh: It's fun to help friends plan, though. Yeah, that's a good excuse, right?
  4. Welcome! I'm new, too...still trying to skim through posts and find out what's going on and where everything is!
  5. ...that everyone is so nice here! That really makes it more fun. I have been on other wedding forums, (who shall remain unnamed, but we know who they are! ) and sometimes the girls can get downright nasty! Not that those other forums aren't helpful, it's just surprising to me how different this one seems. So, thanks everyone. Altogether now...
  6. P.S. I am soooo jealous that you are getting married in Napa!

I like it even better than the rose composite, but I also really love stargazer lilies. It looks like it might be easier to make than the rose one, too, b/c there aren't nearly as many petals. I haven't figured out how to post pics yet (I'm not especially good with that stuff!) but I could try to scan it and post it later on, or email it if you are interested.
  8. You're welcome! Those are pretty good instructions that you found, too! Are you thinking of ordering your own flowers and having someone arrange them for you? (As in, FI's friend?) THAT would be awesome, and sooo much cheaper. The cost of wedding flowers is ridiculous....(and yet, we still pay it! But hey, I loved my wedding flowers, so I really can't complain....)
  9. Hi ladies, I'm new here, and am just starting to read posts. Saw this one, thought I'd jump in! I love flowers and have helped friends do flowers for their weddings. (But no, I'm not a florist!) I have a floral book that explains these. Those "giant flower" bouquets are sometimes called "composite" bouquets, or "duchess roses". The reason they are so expensive isn't really the amount of roses or petals used, it's the fact that every single petal must be carefully hand wired, using very thin gauge wire, and then each petal is indivdually attached to the bouquet using floral tape. It is very time consuming and a huge pain in the butt, especially when you consider that there are dozens of rose petals surrounding the one rose in the middle! Gorgeous, yes, but a pain to make. So yeah, they are definitely charging for labor!
  10. Aw, you guys are so sweet! Thank you! I'm sure we will be asking lots of questions in the near future. I just sent my friend an "invite" to join...her name is Nya, btw.
  11. LOL, sure! And hey, Lala, I see you're from Seattle - we just visited there in September. We had never there before - it's an awesome city. Even did the touristy Underground Tour - hey, we thought it was interesting! We don't have cool history like that in Arizona...and yet, raising the streets but not the sidewalks is totally something our politicians would have done! Ok, back to planning...
  12. Thanks for the kind welcome! And yeah, I really love weddings, and I enjoy researching travel sites, (should have been a travel agent!) so this is fun for me! ~Christy
