  1. My WC said that the doctor will do it in our hotel room the day we arrive. But we have opted to just do the symbolic ceremony for other reasons...I am pretty sure that they take care of it. It is part of their package deal, I believe. JEN
  2. I am getting married at RIU Palace Las Americas in Cancun in about a month and a half. I asked the WC if I needed to sign a contract, and she said not to worry....we will do that when we arrive. I was a little freaked out at first, but now I am thinking that I will be picking the cake, flowers, and some other details when I get there. So, maybe I can't sign a contract if we are still deciding on what to add to the wedding...does that make sense? Should you still ask for a contract regardless? What details should be on it? JEN
  3. I have been racking my brain to figure out what we should do for our welcome lunch that would bring everyone together and get to know eachother better. I thought about sending those who are attending a questionaire. They will fill it out with fun facts about them. Then we at lunch we will give everyone little cards to write on for them to guess who belongs to which fact. Everyone will hold up their cards, and the person who's fact belongs to them will stand up (and if a story is needed to explain, even better!) Ex. who's favorite food is spinach? Aunt Jean! Ex. Who has traveled to 15 different countries? Jennifer! Make the questionaire silly and fun and the person who matches the most wins! I hope that makes sense! Just a thought for a way to get to know everyone. JEN
  4. I agree. I always didn't like that aspect of weddings. Last year at my cousin's wedding my sister (25) caught the boquet and a 10 year old boy caught the garter. Needless to say, both were not too keen dancing with eachother. I thought it was pretty funny though! I'd say, scratch it too. Jen
  5. Great site! I think I have some ideas to get started this weekend! Yeah! Thanks for sharing! Jen
  6. I have been on the fence about this as well. I am a professional dancer and only anticipated our immediate family coming....now I have some dance buddies coming and so I think after dinner we will go to the disco (RIU Cancun) for some dancing...but not a private dance reception...I figure those who want to go out, will, and those who will call it a night after dinner will not. Is that cheap of me? The disco is located onsite of the hotel and everyone is staying there anyhow....Do you think I need a seperate place for dancing instead? Ok...now you got me thinking....hummmm... jen
  7. Hey everyone! I came across this webpage about wedding dresses (buying, altering, etc) and thought it was really useful! They also have a thumbnail about buying diamonds and not getting ripped off. Thought I would share! http://http://www.bridaltips.com/diamond2.htm This goes into details of what to look for/ask when dress or ring shopping. Happy Hunting! Jen
  8. I was wondering the same thing myself today! I was thinking about a solid color gift bag and adding a coozie filled with stuff. I have my FI thinking about what "guys want" and if he comes up with any good ideas, I'll pass them along! Jen
  9. Have a great trip! Is Lizette your WC? Let me know what you think about having the ceremony at the gazebo. We are getting married there too on May 19th and having about 25 people there. Are you doing a cocktail hour? Where are the spots to have that? Let me know what you think about the WC and if she is ontop of the details, etc. Have fun!! Jen
  10. The RIU Palace Las Americas said that 80% of our guests need to stay at the resort. But in order to book a group rate, all 10 rooms must stay the exact same dates....we opted not saving rooms. ......now the hotel is full and my guests have to pay a day pass to come on site! I would suggest (if you don't have to pay for the rooms upfront), go ahead and save a bunch of rooms. At first we felt awkward for asking our guests to stay at a certain hotel, but they all wanted to!! Some are really dissappointed that they aren't staying with us...You might be surprised! If you can block out rooms and cancel, go ahead! You might not use them all, but you at least will have them if you need them! Good luck planning! Jen
  11. Thanks for passing that along! I wouldn't know what to do if that happened! I hope she got the hotel involved and demanded the sun and moon! I wonder what she did for her wedding! Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else! YIKES! Jen

I used business card size magnets and used a business card template (no resizing needed! Yeah!) then, just uploaded a picture. I printed it on photopaper. Pretty easy!' Jen
  13. I have used them in the past, and actually just started again. My personal experience has been positive....Yes, you get jittery (I kind of like that hyper feeling), yes, you need to watch your heart rate when you workout, and yes, you don't feel as hungry. I take Lipodrene and you are supposed to take 3 pills...I just take 2, thinking the dosage is for an adult man....I always lose weight when I take them...but I am also watching what I eat and working out. (that probabaly has more to do with it) I kind of think it is like taking anything else...take it in moderation (if you decide to), and it will affect everyone differently. If you feel crappy taking them, you know it isn't for you. Jen
  14. I like the idea of a scavenger hunt! If you do it duing the afternoon, you can do things like: take a picture of another resort guest doing a handstand with the group in behind, a picture of everyone in the group doing a shot (if you have some drinkers in the party), taking a picture of everyone in the group and other hotel guests linking up in an "elephant walk" (one arm outstretched, one arm through your leg), picture with a front desk employee... Just some ideas....maybe a couple are more "wild" depending on who is coming to the wedding... Jen
  15. I really like that idea! The best part is that you can "use" the wine after the wedding!
  16. Heheee. I was thinking the same thing! Let's see...going to Mexico...so, no alchol OR spicy food? What else is there out there? I know that is one of the reasons I picked Mexico! Bring on the champagne! (and margaritas) Jen
  17. Those are great! What a great gift for all your guests. And they won't weigh down your luggage either! I want to find more stuff like this! Fun! Jen
  18. I really like them too! I think using the voitivs for favors is a great idea. They will look great and tropical! Jen
  19. OH! Good question. I have been wondering that myself! Jen

Plus if you don't set up an appointment ahead of time you run the risk of possibly a WC not being able to meet with you to go over the site and answer your questions. Hope this helps, I'm sure the RM girls will chime in on your other question I think Tammy is right. If you make an appointment, and let them know you are scouting for your wedding, they might be able to have the WC on hand. I would LOVE to have a bonfire after our welcome dinner!! We are getting married at RIU Palace Las Americas, but unfortunately, a bonfire has never even been mentioned as an option.....I don't know if they can do this...maybe it is only certain resorts that don't allow them...maybe a hotel that doesn't have palpas would let you? Jen
  21. I sent my STDs out about 6 months ahead of the wedding. Only my immediate family got their hotel and air tickets. I sent the formal Invites 3 months out, but the hotel is now full and my guests that have waited now are staying at the sister hotel (that is a whole story in itself!). With the STD magnets, I sent two pages of information about the hotel and everything on pretty stationary so guests could plan ahead. I just think that those who procrastonate, will do so no matter how early you send out your invitations. Jen
  22. The WC at RIU Palace Las Americas in Cancun said the speakers would be $200 per hour! YIKES! I am interested if other RIUs charge differently. I understand small differences, maybe using a more elaborate hotel would charge more for the wedding as a whole....but different figures for the same items? huh....... Let me know if those speakers really are of no charge.... Jennifer
  23. Hey girl! Welcome to the forum! You will find that everyone here is so sweet and helpful! Let us know if you have any questions! jen
  24. OOOh! good idea! So, who do you think I should ask for? Do I ask the WC to give me the contact info for her manager? (she doesn't speak very good English), or should I contact someone on my own? I like the idea of letting them know that I participate on this site! Jen
  25. Yeah, I go back and forth being angry and then being relieved that she is willing to do something. I am upset that she didn't warn me about the hotel getting full or at least calling to "double check" whether or not I had rooms saved for the wedding. Really, she has not even contacted me to be on the same page about the wedding. I know a lot of decisions are done on-site (which I kind of like), but I wish she would have given me a heads up on this. She is the WC and that includes helping my guests out if they are expected to stay on the property. I don't want to be a big B*tch, but I am also not sure how much experience she has since she is the new WC for the RIU Palace Las Americas....I hope this is the only hiccup we run into. SHEESH! Jen
