My Grandma's Funeral is tomorrow...is it okay if I don't talk??
starchild replied to michelle08's topic in Random Thoughts
Sorry to hear about your grandma. No, you totally don't have to speak. It's a personal decision that you're entitled to make. At my grandpa's funeral I spoke because nobody in the whole family was able to speak and that made me mad so I got up and told funny stories about him...lol Maybe another relative will speak, and if not, just tell the officiant to skip over the "would anyone like to share..." part and nobody will notice. Good luck -
Looks good, that's about what I had. FAQ's are good. I also had sections on good spots for shopping, sightseeing, etc. just so they knew what was out there. Also if they aren't renting cars for their free time transportation info may be helpful. Oh, and don't forget to note the time zone difference in your Fun Facts...you'd be surprised!

What a lovely idea Christina! Retreats are great, I went on a few as a teenager. I guess it depends on the size of your group. If it were small, like less than 10 women, I would love renting a beach house or a spot in the desert. (I love the desert!). If it's a large group a hotel would work better...but I would still prefer the ocean or desert. What to do....guided meditation is something everyone can do. If you're in nature, a nature walk of some kind. Have you heard of dream canvassing? I went to a session after I got engaged, my friend leads seminars on this. Basically you buy small-ish canvasses (sp?) from an art store, one for each person. Get a bunch of old magazines and craft supplies such as glitter, sparkles, glue sticks, puff paints, beads, etc. You tell the ladies to put together a collage of what their dreams are, what they want to achieve, who they want to be, etc. We sat around a big table and learned about each other, what we love, who we are. It was really special and all but one of these women were strangers to me. Ours was at a tea house and chill music played while we took about 3 hours to make our dream canvas (and drink tea & eat munchies). The idea is to fellowship, share your dreams, and purposefully make your canvas so that it becomes reality over time. I think mine was pretty cool, I can find it and take a pic if you want. And some of my dreams did come true Have fun!

Not that I know of, although honestly I make DH wear it...hahaha He would have told me if our money was wet though. It's good for keeping room keys too. Google waterproof moneybelts, I think that's how we found ours and there may even be reviews. And yes, they are thin...not like the fanny packs of the 80's that one of my co-workers still wears! Those are massive!

Free In-N-Out burgers and Ben & Jerry's in one day, can't beat that!

I'm always paranoid about new miracle weight loss things. I think nothing beats the old fashioned proper diet and excercise...not saying I do those things but I would before I used the patch

How do you "Uninvite" Guests?!!
starchild replied to hammstephanie's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
You said your wedding is 3 months away? If so it's far too late to uninvite. Surely 1 person has booked by now. Cancelling the wedding is one thing and I would understand, but having it anyway and saying I can't go anymore isn't cool. I'm not into etiquette so it's not that, it's just that some people sacrifice a lot to travel and that would be a wee bit disrespectful if they've booked already. I wouldn't end a friendship over it though, there are worse things in life. I agree with Morgan here: Quote: Originally Posted by Morgan Just let your guest list self-select & sit back and see who ends up booking. But I made that choice when I sent them out, I should have only sent them to 20 people if I wanted 10, you know? What I did was just kicked back and watched things unfold (a la Morgan) and I ended up with the perfect amount of people who really wanted to be there. Above all focus on your FI and let things flow. If you're as in love as we were, I promise you that when you're in the middle of the ceremony the entire cast of LOST could be in the crowd and you wouldn't notice -
My advice, unless it's a business trip leave the laptops at home. If you really need to get online (on vacation!?) pay the hotel and use their connection. Get a moneybelt, I think they are terribly underrated. They come in several styles and they make waterproof ones as well to use when swimming. Keep anything you'd be bummed about losing on your person as much as possible. Going to eat? Bring your passport, cash, camera, etc. DO NOT think the safe is safe, sadly it just isn't. I think you're better off walking around a foreign city with $800 cash in a moneybelt than you are leaving it in your hotel safe. Btw *if possible* don't keep tons of cash handy if you don't need it right away. We had no problems using ATM's in PV, can't speak for other locales. Never ever, ever ever, leave anything of great value in your room. Period. Thieves know about the suitcases and the socks, and maybe even the books since a lot of people mention doing that too. It stinks that you have to go so far and it is certainly inconvenient. But, if you were making little to no $$ and people wealthy enough to travel left their valuables around when they weren't, your moral compass might break too! Better safe now than sorry later. Good luck everyone!

1 song or 2 - Walking down the aisle...
starchild replied to cabobridey's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
We did one song, it was over 5 minutes long. It had words and the words are so very special to me that I wanted them all to play. As fate would have it the last note played as I arrived at the alter....love when things unexpectedly work out like that! -
Brrrr! It's been predictably sunny in L.A. Same weather different day. Be grateful you have seasons...when summer hits you'll really appreciate it!

Funny, I just started a thread about B&J's free cone day, I wonder if they have those flavors in the shops? They sound good, I'll have to check them out!

It's that time of year again, free cone day is back on April 29, 2008! Go to the site to find a participating shop near you. Mmmmmm..... Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream

Maybe they have a smaller airport with more restricted flights? Just guessing, but it's crazy.

LOL that's a good story for the kids! Catherine what a crazy situation with the girl who has similar info to you. Once DH went to pay a parking ticket and the lady said he had a warrant for some crime. The sheriff was going to arrest him until they checked his social and figured out it was someone else with his name & birthday in L.A. LMAO! It was crazy!

I kind of agree with you only because people I've known who have waited sometimes talk about how much more special or magical their night would be, etc. which sort of implies that those of us with sex lives were going to have a trite experience, which anyone who has sex knows is not true. Personally, it would have been cruel and unusual punishment for us to wait and I consider us strong for living our truth. Anyhoo, it's a personal choice as you all say. I support the people who think waiting means something and the people who think not waiting means something -
Great pictures Heidi! You were a beautiful bride and I love how your toes matched your bouquet...lol Nice touch!

Am I being a Bridezilla? I don't want a Redneck wedding!
starchild replied to Celina's topic in Just venting or funnies
Uggh..these things are always tricky because you don't want to seem ungrateful, but if it's not you it's not you. (btw flowers on my visor would not be for me either!) They mean well but sometimes people do things for themselves more than for us, not saying that's what they are doing, but it happens. I agree to be honest, better to get it out of the way now than at your DW when you're approached with the floral hat
