How fun! Mine lived far from me so I didn't have one but I love the idea of that!

The Memory Keeper's Daughter BC Discussion #3
starchild replied to Birdie07's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
Was anyone else nervous about Caroline & Al's relationship? I was always worried that he wouldn't come back from the road, or that the next chapter would be about him cheating on her while he was gone because he felt unfulfilled. He was so patient and loving, and sometimes it seemed Caroline was so worried about Phoebe that she didn't appreciate or notice Al enough when he was around. She was stressed a lot and it struck me when he said on pg. 347 "Why are you so mad? What have I ever done to make you feel like I am going to leave?". The book was nearly over then and I was thinking "Please don't get fed up and leave her now!!!" LOL What are your thoughts on their relationship? -

hehe...oh Jen we could have a lot of fun with this but we have to keep it as clean as possible I like "Queen of Queens" for 3 reasons - one you live in Queens, two King of Queens is like the best show and it sounds like that, and three you are so Queens to me...spunky, assertive, and freakin' hilarious! LOL It doesn't say much about being a bride though but I like it

haha I know all about work aggression! It is cool for the midwest folks though...I take for granted that I live near several major airports with lots of choices. This is big news for them!

I agree, don't sign that new contract. Since the U.S. controls Puerto Rico it may work in your favor, just because I'm thinking if it was the DR or JA somewhere we didn't control they could give you the shaft and what can you do...but can you threaten these people with the BBB or Attorney General or something? If they can vote for our President they have to follow our laws, right BDW lawyers? Not that it makes you feel better because with your wedding so close you shouldn't have to go around threatening anyone...so sorry. Let us know if we can help, I'm also down to call/email/raise hell for you...and they don't want NYJen & I giving them a piece of our minds

catholic ceremony in PV
starchild replied to guerita's topic in Destination Weddings in Puerto Vallarta & surrounding areas
Hi guerita! I didn't have a Catholic ceremony in PV but I'll try to help based on what I remember from when we considered it. 1) How do you do the whole pre-cana thing if you're not living down there? You do the pre-cana in advance, in your parish/a parish where you live 2) Do you get a chance to meet with or at least talk to (like over the phone) the priest before the ceremony? Probably (do you speak Spanish?) I think that a priest in your parish has to forward all of your completed prerequisites to the diocese in Mexico where you will marry...it may even need to be your local bishop that does it, I forget. Talk to your priest or whoever will prepare you, they know the rules. Also, your Catholic ceremony must be done inside of a church and although is religiously binding, it does not make you legally married when you return home. You also need to have a civil ceremony, either in the U.S. or in Mexico. 3) Do you have any say in terms of what is said at the ceremony (what readings are done, vows, etc.)? Not sure but I would imagine yes 4) Are you obligated to do a full mass with communion or can I choose not to? Not sure but I would imagine you may need to do a full mass as it is a traditional country 5) Has anyone used a bilingual priest that they really liked and would recommend? Not me! Here are Catholic churches in PV in case you don't have a list: Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish (Parroquia de Guadalupe) Hidalgo #370 Downtown Puerto Vallarta Tel: 222-1326 Sacred Cross Parish (Parroquia de la Santa Cruz) Lázaro Cárdenas #395 at Aguacate Tel: 222-0989 Our Lady of the Refuge Parish (Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Refugio) Corner of Perú and Argentina Tel: 222-4980 San Rafael Parish (Parroquia San Rafael) Calle Jamaica Tel: 222-2440 Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (Templo Sagrado Corazón de Jesús) Plaza Paritzica # 17 Col. Aramara Tel: 224-0329 Virgen of Talpa Church (Iglesia de la Virgen de Talpa) Plaza Central Sur #167 Tel: 224-1323 A wedding planner will make this much easier for you. Have you searched this site? Above & to the right is the search function where you can look it up. Also google is your friend, search for this topic and you'll find what you need. Good luck! -
The Memory Keeper's Daughter BC Discussion #3
starchild replied to Birdie07's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
Would I hide something like this from my spouse? No way, but I see why he did it especially keeping in mind the year it was when Phoebe was born. It is a stigma now but then it was much more difficult. And in the grand tradition of lies, once you start it's hard to stop and the lie becomes this thing that you have to maintain...in this case until his death. As for Norah - I agree with Rachel & Yari. I started out feeling bad for her, for what she didn't know. But I lost that sympathy rather quickly and feel that her cheating and carrying on was worse than him lying & hiding the baby in the first place. She really annoyed me, seriously. David really loved her and I can't say that she really loved him. All things considered Norah is the selfish one. If she wasn't such a biotch they may have had a chance to reconcile but she went around treating him like she already knew so IMO he was damned if he told the truth and damned if he lied. I get the Rosemary-David relationship. The daughter he never had, the child in crisis he wanted to help, the association with his childhood home. I actually never thought it was weird or potentially sexual just based on David's character...but I see how if one of our dad's took in a teenager, and bought a duplex with her, it would seem creepy. -
Omg get the video!! If $$ was a problem I'd say use your camcorder, but if you have the $500 then by all means go for the pro. Like Sarah I didn't really notice ours but boy was I glad he was there when I got home & pics weren't enough. The most fabulous photographer cannot capture sound and I found that sound was a huge part of the experience...the waves, the laughter, the vows, the music that played when we kissed, all of that even Annie Liebovitz would have missed...lol Truly, the day goes by so fast and I saw things on the pro video that I didn't see when it was live. Plus, a few guests took their own amateur videos and those are awesome, particulary the reception footage where people were filming from different places so not only are there different views but different conversations...many of which I missed because I could only be in one place at a time. We had our video guy go around to all guests and have them make their toasts privately to the camera, and watching those are priceless. We totally watch ours...believe you me, on a hard day back in reality, popping in the videos make my heart smile - and laugh, my guests were funny! Long story short, do it!

Ready when you are

We didn't have a rehearsal dinner for the wedding party because we didn't have a rehearsal (we had a welcome dinner for all guests but that is not at all necessry). We did programs because I wanted fans for the heat & it wasn't much more $$ to combine the two. I agree with Yari, totally make it your own and only do what you really want to do. Anything goes

Again Ann I am so happy that Gwendolyn is here and healthy, and that she is a she...I was thinking nugget was male but hoping for a girl so you could use that name...lol Quote: Originally Posted by Morgan Maybe you can find someone renting their house while on summer vacation. This is near the hospital: Newly Remodeled Furnished Condo in Downtown Walnut Creek, CA Have you stayed in Oakwood corporate housing before? They have some Walnut Creek locations. Walnut Creek Furnished Apartments - Temporary Furnished Apartments in Walnut Creek by Oakwood You can also check vacation rental sites like this, they often give reduced monthly rates. San Francisco Bay Area Vacation Rentals - Homes, Apartments & Condo Rentals I'm sure the case worker will help, but you probably want to stay near to the hospital as possible so besides Walnut Creek look in Concord, Pleasant Hill, Lafayette, maybe even Alamo. Good luck

Oooh Drea just in time for summer! Your face is shaped perfectly for that kind of hairstyle...it will look great!!

Welcome You'll definitely save $$ by moving the wedding out of S.F. and to another country...now where is up to you! Since you're in the Bay Mexico may be the most affordable and convenient (shorter, nonstop flights) for more people...particularly the Pacific side like Cabo/PV. But, it's your gig so if you want to go to PR or anywhere that direction, go for it and those who can come will. Happy planning

Will said he fit in the palm of his dad's hand...lol And just think, this was back in the 70's when medicine probably sucked in comparison to now, Nugget will be fine! -
So sorry...the casualties of being nice, sometimes you get the short end of the stick The house he got kicked out of, do he and his wife own it? I ask because if his name is on the property he should move back in and let her worry about leaving. Let a judge sort that out, it will take awhile and you'll have peace in the meantime. Women tend to act like the man has to go when there are problems, make her ass go somewhere. If they rent or it's only her property then that won't work. Otherwise, I agree with what was said. You need to talk about boundaries and it will be hard because it's your brother. Having that talk with my bro would be tough so I sympathize. Bottom line is your & Travis' relationship is most important because after your bro does leave that's what you'll be left with...and if Travis feels you have his back now it will be to your benefit later. Good luck & keep us posted
