What is everyone doing for the holiday weekend? (U.S. girls)
starchild replied to Alyssa's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
Today we're going to help our friends put up tenting for their mega bbq tomorrow since it may still be raining. We have dinner reservations tonight, and Monday is a b-day luncheon for my girlfriend. -
The Memory Keeper's Daughter BC Discussion #3
starchild replied to Birdie07's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
Okay guys I found these online...if any of them jump out at you go for it! 1. What do you think Norah’s reaction would have been if David had been honest with her from the beginning? How might Norah have responded to the news that she had a daughter with Down syndrome? How might each of their lives have been different if David had not handed Phoebe to Caroline that fateful day? 2. Throughout the novel, the characters often describe themselves as feeling as if they are watching their own lives from the outside. For instance, David describes the moment when his wife is going into labor and says “he felt strangely as if he himself were suspended in the room . . . watching them both from above†(p. 10). What do you think Edwards is trying to convey here? Have you ever experienced similar feelings in your own life? 3. When David instructs Caroline to take Phoebe to the institution, Caroline could have flatly refused or she could have gone to the authorities. Why doesn’t she? Was she right to do what she did and raise Phoebe as her own? Was Caroline morally obligated to tell Norah the truth right from the beginning? Or was her moral obligation simply to take care of Phoebe at whatever cost? Why does she come to Norah after David’s death? 4. Though David wanted no part of her, Phoebe goes on to lead a full life, bringing much joy to Caroline and Al. Her story calls into question how we determine what kind of life is worth living. How would you define such a life? In contrast to Phoebe’s, how would you describe the quality of Paul’s life as he grew up? -

After-sun lotion or Aloe for CHEAP?
starchild replied to Tobi's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Try ebay. Last year I was able to buy a lot of sea'n'ski after sun for really cheap, some other ladies here got them too. -
Yep it's crazy! There was rain & thunder here last night, today is just gloomy so far. I saw the tornados in Moreno Valley on the news, that was really crazy. I love rain but for this week hope it gets hot again. I'm going to a bbq this weekend too and it is definitely outside...a jacket will totally ruin my outfit idea...lol

Haha these names are great! Feel free to share more if you get them...I could use the laughs

FLDS Update: Court Rules Texas had no right.
starchild replied to Birdie07's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
This is absolutely retarded. The thought that these kids will go back there sickens me. I generally say to each their own, worship who you want, etc. Seriously, you can worship a mound of sand and I'll support your right to do it. But with this one...give me a break. Pictures of Warren Jeffs are in every room of their homes - yes, the man who would be prophet, the same man who is serving a 10 year sentence for being an accomplice to rape by forcing a 14-year-old to marry her cousin. Let's just pretend it didn't happen, there aren't pregnant child wives, these people are free to leave at any time. Right. Anyone see these women? You don't have to be a trained professional to see how abused they are. And I love how the men hung their wives out to dry during this whole process...where were they? I think it is particulary awful because it gives the FLDS leaders ammo to continue with the brainwashing...these people took you away, they were wrong and had to give you back...now little 14 year old, go marry this 45 year old man so heaven will be yours. It's disgusting. -
LMAO! Make a stiff drink and get a good seat, this promises to be a entertaining!

I didn't even go close to it and it made me nervous to watch people dance at the front. I obviously needed to be drunk. Yeah, the rope in the front is kind of sketchy...haha I didn't even go near it in my drunken state - I kept my hands on the stripper poles and danced there but there are pics of guests all on the rope and laid out on the front of the boat by the ropes!!

Help with saying for Bubbles
starchild replied to Cole5worm's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
We tweaked the original a bit, so ours said: "Rice is nice but bubbles are their style. Toast Jamy & Will as they walk down the aisle" That's as creative as I could get a week before the wedding when I put it together...too bad I didn't think of "blow me" -

I also have family that has "passed"...for those that dont know - they look like a White person and on their DL and to "certain" people they are White. They in fact lead a double life but being on the "Black" side of the family, we all know.. and frankly think its stupid... Good points BarefootBride and it's crazy how far people go with that stuff. I think lying about big stuff like that is always bad and comes back to bite you in the butt. You reminded me of this story: One of my best friend's "little sister" is actually her niece. My friend's big sister got pregnant young and rather than suffer the scandal, her mom raised her as her own...like Bree on Desparate Housewives....lol I've always known this and wanted my friend's little sis to know so bad that her "mom" is really her grandma and her "sister" is really her mom (confused yet? lol) but it wasn't my place to say it. Flash forward...my friend's little sis was told the truth a few years ago when she was 17 and almost immediately ran away. Prior to the truth she was a straight A, private school Athlete. Well that changed fast. She managed to graduate high school but has been living with a scumbag & doing drugs ever since, and refuses to talk to any of her family because they were all in on the lie. If she knew I knew all those years she would hate me too. Moral is - these massive lies are dangerous! Tell the truth!! -
I'm happy that he won! All season long he did well and had some pretty impressive performances. Archuleta has a great voice but IMO he's too wet behind the ears& lacks stage presence...now if he stays in L.A. instead of going back to Salt Lake he'll be a new man in no time...lol David Cook is already totally comfortable on stage, plus his eyes are wide open when he sings

I'm ready now, come on slackers and decide if you are in or not so we can commence with the shopping!! LOL

Catholic Ceremonies
starchild replied to Hot Pink Petticoat's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Hi 1) are there restrictions (that you know of) where Catholic ceremonies cannot be done? ie certain days of the week, b/c you're not local etc?? ~ Do you mean in another country? I guess that would depend where you are going. 2) is it true you can get married then come home and get the certificate blessed? ~ You can always have a Catholic ceremony in addition to a civil one, even years down the line. The prerequisites are the same and are best discussed with your priest, but it is totally possible. I think years ago the terminology was to have your marriage "blessed", my mom still uses that term. But the Pastor we worked with said that it isn't a blessing, it is a Catholic wedding. As far as the church is concerned the only wedding that counts/matters is the Catholic one. So even if you have already had a civil or secular wedding, anything you do marriage-wise with the Catholic church after that is still a wedding, not a blessing or renewal or anything like that...at least that's what ours said! -
For BTB I'm rolling with Abbie again (DougsGirl) and for Mrs. I'm with Drea (DreaW). They both generally rock but specifically Abbie is always so darn helpful and funny, and Drea is so darn festive & always organizing something...even when she is sick!

People tend to seat you with people they think you would like and it annoys me because they aren't always right. I'm almost 30 years old & respectful enough to leave the seats nearest you to family, let me find my own seat to eat my chicken in the back -
I am cracking up at the nervous mom stories, I'll have to tell mine she wasn't alone. She was also worried that a guest would get too drunk & fall off the boat. She even suggested we not serve alcohol on the ride back for this reason...in the end she was doing tequila shots on the ride back! For the record Nicole said nobody ever fell overboard, but once they thought they lost a drunk GM but found him curled up asleep in some cubby on the boat..haha
