  1. How did I miss this? Abbie did you make the pancit? Yum!! One of my best friends on earth is from the Philippines. Her sister makes the best adobo and lumpia I've ever had, and I grew up eating that stuff in houses where the grandmas cooked hella good, but this girl's food is superior. Damn...now I'm wishing she lived closer so she can bring me some!! BTW MarieSam, fantastic logo!
  2. Nice! I got almost the exact same favor once, but they somehow etched a photo of the couple. We still have it, it's cute

Guys - people tend to drop off come discussion time so perhaps we should set a finish date now and bump it every so often. What do you think?

  7. The chit chat has definitely died down...I think people forget. Anyway, I'm ready for a new one when everyone else is

  9. Bon voyage my dear, have a fabulous wedding!!!!
  10. I know Yari, they look crazy!! How that was beauty I don't know...pretty darn disgusting imo.
  11. My friends in N.O. left town today thank God, one of their FIL's wouldn't go so they had to leave him. The mayor reported that it will be the storm of the century and possibly the worst thing to happen to the U.S. ever....please be safe everyone and if you are in N.O. get out.
  12. We did an open bar by default because that was all they offered, but I think we made out like bandits considering how much our guests drank. I can't count the number of times tequila shots went around and if we were paying per person it would have made me nervous. Factor in the mixed drinks, beer, wine, & champagne and it would have got really pricey. In your case I think an open bar makes sense too. What about cocktails only for the cocktail hour, open bar for the next two, then beer/wine only for the last? That may help with the costs a little. If your budget allows I definitely say cocktails for cocktail hour, even if that means limiting it to beer/wine for the rest of the night. Good luck!
  13. Pug3636 I hear you on the kids thing, people say you make it work but how does that literally translate into money? I guess it's one of those secrets you don't learn until you have to...lol And if you find a money tree please clue us in

I guess it's too late to argue this point, but they wouldn't be selling it and they wouldn't be serving it if your guests had their own. If I were a resort guest, went shopping in town, and came back with a bottle of liquor I couldn't drink it? Shoot it's still America and if I were the legal age then what? I still say sneak them liquour somehow! Maybe deliver it to their room in advance or something otherwise you'll have to pay what they require...little airplane bottles are easy to disguise I don't like Vodka but most of the free world does so I would get a quote on that drink you made up just in case. And BTW I love to drink but if I showed up at a wedding where they had very minimal choices I would still drink...so do what's affordable and your guests will have fun regardless.
  15. If your crowd would be cool without hard liquor then the hell with it, have wine & beer and a cash bar for the hard stuff. My crowd was more interested in the hard stuff but it's about you and your guests. Would you get in trouble for incorporating hard liquour into your centerpieces or favors? Not like you need a last minute project, but they can't dictate your favors so what if you gave out bottles of rum or something...even little ones in a bucket like "grab a favor" style. Tie some ribbons around them...lol Mixers at $3 each are way cheaper than those gallons!
  16. Glenda I got what you meant and I think most of us do - it's not about "poor me I want a Prada bag" it's about "I want to buy gas and food and have a home". It's not that ludicrous. Those of us not living on the sidewalk are lucky, no doubt about it. It could always be worse but that doesn't mean it can't be better on a basic level. Right now the economy is such that for many people these basic things that previous generations were able to afford are not possible. Period.
  17. Dang Hawaii for being so expensive! I guess that's the price to pay for the beauty of the most isolated populated islands in the world...at least that's what they told us on the plane once. Does your package include a champagne toast? If you're not doing that I don't necessarily see the need for champagne. Can they do a hard alcohol drink for less money? And you can slip the bartenders some food coloring to make it the color you want? That's probably crazy but I'm just racking my brain here! As for how much beer vs. wine gosh I don't know. Personally I know people who drink only beer/hard liquor and not wine. Do you have a wine crowd? In that case you can do away with or really restrict the beer. Or do wine only with dinner, cocktails only for the rest...if that would save $$.
  18. LOL thanks for the 12 pack validation Glenda! Alyssa, Glenda makes a good point - people may drink more because they are at a resort wedding in Hawaii where they can stumble back to the room totally drunk. Everyone won't but myself and people like me would..haha Just something to consider. So you don't have to order this in advance, right? They'll have a plethora already and you're just trying to figure out what your bill may be?

Those won't all be mai tais, so you have to figure in the beer/wine proportions. I would say at least 8 gallons of mai tais...not sure if that is the right amount but even at 15 drinks/gallon that would cover 120 drinks. $95 x 8...yikes! I hope they are giving you a good deal on beer/wine because the people who don't drink hard will probably make it up with those. And again I chose the high end of approximate drinks per person, a lot will probably be less and a few may be more. This is confusing and costly! Is it too ghetto to sneak in some twelvers of beer? LOL
  20. Mmmm Becks' macaroni casserole made me think of homemade mac/cheese/ham casserole. It's so yummy and you can throw some spinach or broccoli in it if you want to add something healthy. I wing it but google it for real recipes. It is oh so comforting!
  21. How many of the 35 don't drink at all? By light drinkers do you mean 2-3 drinks max? Just trying to figure out how many real drinkers you'll have. 18 drinks/gallon seems like a lot to me too...maybe they go heavy on the ice LOL As for the types of wine 2 choices is enough IMO, I've been to plenty of events where there are only 2 wine options. If you need to save $$ I wouldn't add it there. And holy shit your wedding is next Friday?!? Where did the summer go? Do you have butterflies yet?
