  3. The Napa thing threw me too The clerk said he stopped it to avoid confusion: Solano County continues to grant same-sex licenses - The Reporter
  4. I took a picture of my ballot too. I wondered if it was illegal, but I thought if so it would be worth a citation...it was that big to me. I hope the Feds aren't reading this thread or JustUsTwo and I are in hot water...lol
  5. So the court in Norwalk (L.A.) stopped issuing gay marriage licenses today and will resume if told by court order. Napa county stopped as well. Solano County (N. CA) will continue to issue gay marriage licenses until ordered otherwise. I'm not sure where the other counties stand. Someone made a striking point, saying that chickens now have more rights than gay Californians (you know we passed that animal rights measure). It's ludicrous. For couples married during the 'legal' time, the CA Attorney General said the state will fight for their right to remain legal. I expect a lot of lawsuits as this ban is unconstitutional...that's all I know!

Know what? One of my co-workers was beside herself with guilt today because she voted yes on 8 thinking it meant "yes, gay marriage should be legal". Her fault for not reading or paying attention, but it was a wrong vote. I'd be willing to bet some of those yes votes were wrong...but then perhaps some of the no votes were wrong too....who knows Also, I read a few hours ago that there are still a few million votes not counted from mailed-in ballots...if they voted the right way it may change things. In any case I am so upset with my people...and we are the liberal state? This is scary.
  7. Thanks, Josh...I think most of us look forward to earning our respect back all over the world.
  8. HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!! I echo the comments about McCain...I disagree with his politics but I like him. Great speech. My MIL called as soon as it was announced. When she was a child in Louisiana she had to be mindful of which water fountain she drank out of....and now this. My faith in our nation has been renewed. It's a great time to be an American!!!

When I heard him say that in a debate I cringed...but I think some of those traditionally conservative voters he has been able to convert wouldn't have gone his way if he said he was for gay marriage. Politics as usual, right? And yeah, the idea that if kids are exposed to gay marriage all hell would break loose is crazy. Do the opponents really think they are raising their kids in a bubble and it will take a law to show them people are gay? Or that a law would 'turn' their kids gay? I wish people could raise their kids to be tolerant, open-minded people who can decide for themselves whether or not they are gay, and not hate people who aren't what they are! ETA: Right on, Christine, I totally agree!
  10. If you pass by one of these places, they are giving away free election day goodies: Starbuck's - one free tall coffee Krispy Kreme - one free star shaped donut Ben & Jerry's - one free scoop between 5-8 p.m.

We both voted Obama and for a state measure to preserve gay marriage...not sure if you're supposed to discuss that stuff at the polling place but we had a moment...lol

And I think Cali residents who have seen the commercials will agree - the 'yes on 8' propoganda has been disgusting...hate mongering at it's finest.
  13. With tears running down my cheeks I voted for Obama (and some extremely crucial state measures here in Cali). This is an amazing day. Win, lose, or draw, the sheer thought that millions of people of varied races and social standings have united to support a person of color...well, it makes me think more highly of my nation. A few decades back Obama wouldn't have been able to sit next to Biden in a restaurant, let alone run alongside him as candidate for President of the United States. The very possibility is huge in terms of where we are as a nation. McCain is a likeable guy and I don't outright hate him like some people I know, I just disagree with almost everything he stands for so I could never vote that way. Be proud of whomever you support. This has been a civil thread so we can leave the fear of being attacked for our views out of it...sometimes just suggesting it may happen can start it up
  14. Oooh that's 4pm where I am...I'll have all night to watch the outcome in the western states. I'll do a shot for you when our guy wins
  15. Janet, miss you! We're going to an election cocktail party tomorrow evening...nothing like drinks to celebrate victory or nurse sorrows in the case of defeat. BTW Janet (or anyone in the know) - we won't really know the outcome tomorrow night, right? Unless it is a landslide doesn't it take awhile to tally everything and say for certain?
  16. You gave me goosebumps lol...congrats, I knew you would love it!!!!!!!!!

They haven't had time for pranks...they've been too busy registering in record numbers and counting down the days
