I really think it matters where in Mexico you are and then if something bad is meant to happen to you, i.e. luck or fate. There is violence all over the world and in the cities we all live in, so I wouldn't be put off by Mexico in general. However, there is a huge drug war going on in parts of northern Baja. Maybe that's what your mom was referring to? I think it was last year that the TJ police had their weapons taken away while the army stepped in because they were so corrupt. Around that time my Mexican friends were saying to stay out of that area because they were killing Americans at will because the FBI captured one of the major criminals there and they were mad at the US. These days I think it's more a matter of being caught in the drug war cross fire rather than being a target as a tourist. TJ had 37 murders in 3 days a few weeks back, over 200 in the month of November I believe, etc. My brother has a house between Rosarito & Ensenada where a lot of insane stuff is going on right now (Mystery man blamed for gruesome Tijuana deaths - Los Angeles Times) but he drives there a few times a month without incident...so who knows. I wouldn't plan a TJ wedding anytime soon but I don't think anyone is doing that anyway

I support their right to have that garbage written on a cake because of the whole freedom of expression factor but I suppose the store had a right to refuse it too if that is their policy. In any case the parents could have bough a plain cake and written the poor child's name on it with a $2 tube of frosting. We ordered the Hercules Hooks and they do not screw into the wall with ease as advertised...we had a heck of a time with them and gave up We also ordered the doggie steps. It took 7 weeks to get here and when they did we noticed they came from a warehouse 15 miles from here! Then we saw them at BB&B a few weeks later....they are as advertised but we could have saved on s&h and had them immediately so that was a bummer

I think I spent more on the screenprinting than I did on the bags, and the cheap bags were just fine. I got them from cheaptotes.com Also consider what logo/design you are putting on them. Only a few special people will carry a bag around in real life that says "mike & sally" (if they aren't Mike or Sally) but more people will use a bag post-wedding that is more generic or that doesn't have other people's names on them. In the end I say save where you can because everyone won't be using the bags after vacation.
