I've been to weddings where they were super boring and watching the kids play was the only entertainment. Not to laugh at your pain, but I'm cracking up over here at the fact that a kid stabbed you in the foot with a fork!!! I guess that one got away from the watchful eye of the parents. Holy mother!! I get both sides of this issue, even though both sides got a little raw on this issue - damn! And I must stick up for the person whose choices were called sad, different isn't sad, it's just different from what you would do.
We had 2 kids - our niece & nephew. Our other guests with kids left them home, we didn't have to ask them to either. They wanted a vacation without responsibility. If they had stayed home to be with their kids, good for them. Less people to feed & the day is about 2 people, the guests are a bonus. I wouldn't be sad. Children can bring an immense amount of joy to any occasion, but I've also seen some ruin the harmony of an otherwise pleasant function. Know your guests, how they handle their kids, and make the choice that is right for you!
