  1. You know what I say? F them all. Harsh but true. Some people don't get destination weddings and you have too much going on to try and explain it to them. Think of it as less people to feed, that's what I did. The people who are really down for you will show up smiling. The complainers can stay at home and live out their sheltered lives. Haters. How would some of these people feel if they had an in-town wedding and we said "why are you having it at the Hilton? can't you move it somewhere else?" Don't justify you're wedding to people, just say good riddance to bad rubbish!
  2. Ours will be a fiesta at my parents house as well. We have nowhere near as many people invited as you do...that's one heck of an AHR! I guess I'm really no help...lol
  3. I've heard fabulous things about the Maroma Resort in the Riviera Maya. The resort is small (65 rooms) and the beach is beautiful, I saw it on one of those Travel Channel specials and it was ranked the #1 hotel (I think the category was best beaches?) It looks amazing too: Maroma Mexico - Maroma Resort and Spa in Mexico
  4. Damn Heidi...I hope you work in graphics or you may have missed your calling! Very cool )
  5. Funny, I was just reading an article last night on cheap centerpieces and it mentioned that you can rent potted plants/flowers from florists. They weren't talking about Mexico, but hopefully one of the florists you found does that. Cheap wedding table centerpiece ideas.

  7. You know you joined just to snoop, lol, but we'll take you anyway )
  8. Just curious what the wedding party dance is. Is that where the wedding party only dances? Hey I think I just answered my own question too, LOL!
  9. I don't see what you could have forgotten. Sounds great! The digital frame is an awesome touch!
  10. Yay!! Such a pretty dress. I love the colors you chose, and the chairs with the beautiful colored bows. Is that your dad walking you down the aisle? He looks sharp! lol Congratulations, can't wait for more )
  11. My experience is a little different but for what it's worth... We got married civilly in L.A. before going to Mexico in June for our "big" wedding. We are having our church (Catholic) ceremony this September. We completed all the prerequisites earlier this year (pre-cana, sacrament verifications, couples quiz, meetings with Priest). It may be different where you are. We've been working with a priest here in L.A. who has prepared our packet of paperwork. The 3rd wedding (lol) is about 400 miles from here so I'm basically forwarding the packet to the deacon who will be conducting our church ceremony. This will be the last wedding for sure, we're having a reception for this one too.
  12. I think there is definitely this segment of people who don't get DWs because it's a novel thing to most of them. It's just as significant as a traditional in-town wedding - I would argue more so because they tend to be more intimate, or at least full of people who care enough to make the trip. They're coming from Ireland so it makes no difference if it's L.A. or Mexico or Canada really...once you've committed to flying 10+ hours what's a few more? Sorry you're going through this. It was my least favorite phase of DW planning - people who don't get it.
  13. hahaha..here too! You can just have them drop you off. Cabs are so abundant in PV you will have no problem catching another one as soon as you hit the sidewalk, lol.

Okay now I'm thinking about street food...mmm. We have a tamale lady who comes to our building & the fruit guy too...he sells the fruit with chili & limon...fresh coconuts, mango, papaya, watermelon, you name it. And then there's the taco truck . . . .
  15. There's a Walmart and I think a Sam's Club (?) right by the airport which is right by the Westin..5 minutes tops. There are tons of little places that sell liqour cheap (and some farmacias too) if you walk the back streets downtown - paseo dias ordaz, juarez, matamoros. Even easier, check out El Coyal - it's like a BevMo - and they'll deliver free if you spend $100, otherwise it's very centrally located. Ask a cabbie to take you to: Rio Danubio No. 147 Col. Lopez Mateos Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico 48340 Licoreria El Coyul
  16. Tammy I have a question for you since we're talking food, as a kid I spent a lot of time at a friends's house where her mom (Vietnamese) would make us avocado & condensed milk as a sweet treat. Is that a Vietnamese thing or was that just something they did? It was pretty yummy, I think I'll make one this weekend for old time sake )
  17. That just reminded me as a kid we used to eat those mango & chili lollipops, mmmm.
  18. I'm having tacos carbon (chicken) and a loco fiesta salad from El Pollo Loco....nothing special. Homemade tacos sound sooooo good to me right now!
  19. Planning will be a breeze here, have fun!!
