I swear when I read these threads with the prices of homes where you guys live I wish I were born anywhere but CA If it were that affordable here we would have bought a home before we even got married...at this rate a home is not in our immediate future unless we move to the high desert, but under $300k is still unheard of, more like $600k for a decent area in the city! Lucky duckies )
  2. Hey ladies, I'm just hijacking to share this post...the link has the most varied photos I've seen of ROR...I think it will give you a better feel for the place if you haven't been there http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...743#post289855
  3. We didn't, with the exception of my grandmother who lives in Europe (just because she's the grandmother). Our std's were very detailed and actually said that formal invites would be mailed to those who responded with a "yes". We sent out a 2nd std 2 months later in the form of a postcard, reminding people to rsvp on the website. The formal invites were sent to the people who said yes. There are strong opinions on this issue but we discussed it and felt that in our case, after sending 2 stds, if someone said no we took their word for it. Many of the people who said no felt bad about not being able to come. We felt that by sending an invitation after they said no, it would be rubbing it in their faces/implying that their no wasn't a good answer and maybe they can reconsider. If they changed their mind on their own they would have told us, you know? No sense in making them feel bad twice (or 3 times in our case). I guess traditional etiquette went out the window for us since our wedding wasn't traditional anyway. You have to do what feels right to you

  6. Ask your diocese if they offer courses for convalidated couples. This is for people who either got married outside of the church and are now having a Catholic ceremony, or people who have never been married but already live together (like us). They are run differently because you are in a different place than people who have no idea what it's like to live together, it's a more mature/modern approach imo. IMO if that priest gave you shit I would find another parish. God is love and if you are made to feel like sinners it doesn't help anything. The pastor who prepared us was awesome and very progressive. DH is not Catholic, I have sooooo many issues with the structure of the church. I think all religion pretty much sucks and your belief in God and the good you do is what matters. The pastor not only allowed us to express our grievances, but he pretty much agreed with us and said spirituality is individual for everyone. He made us feel 100% okay with how we feel and told us to take what we believed and leave the rest. I cannot stress how cool he was, and he completely changed DH's perspective on the Catholic church....and mine. Amy, I'm glad you are enjoying your classes. We are so glad we did them, truly
  7. If it was pricey to add on I would keep the cake as is and have them cut the pieces to half the normal size, that will get you 20

We did the exact same thing, funny! The FOCCUS was so much more meaningful than we ever thought. And the one day class was really fun because the couple that led it was hilarious. There is something to be learned from this stuff so have fun with it. BTW don't know how Canada is different, but here different parishes have different classes. They all count the same, and if you really want you could probably find a one day class. The first parish we contacted wanted us to attend 6 months of classes...we called the diocese who hooked us up with the one day course
  9. Thanks Maura, I'll PM you. Jason you must go to that resort and take a picture in front of every Lambert Resort sign, that's cool! (and a great beach)
  10. Yikes! That is why we opted for a wedding on a private beach - no lookie-loos (especially of the topless variety!). Crazy!
