I just want to shake his mom and be like "It's your son getting married. Why is there any hesitation" I guess my point is that no matter who comes and who doesn't, it's still your wedding and you have to do what makes you happy. I think even if we got married at home, his family would still have some sort of issue with something! (Sorry, I just realized this is a long vent, I should have started my own thread!) Exactly!!!!

Thanks for all the support and words of advice. We aren't tying the knot until Jan 2009 so I have lots of time to problem solve and do some pleading and begging. On a funier not she did suggest we should get married at Graceland in the Nashville (I did say she was a hick). ****please note I in no way asume everyone who lives in or wants to travel to Graceland is a hick. lol

Alright I know I am not the first BTB with this problem, my MIL is, for lack of a better word a hick, she does not travel much and lives in the bush. We thought she we would be able to convince her to come to Mexico with us for the wedding. Unfortunately a few Canadians were killed there recently and they keep running the story so she thinks many of them have been killed. So she is afraid to come. Any other down south location would be the same to her. I know we should "do what matters to us" we "can't please everyone!" but lets be realistic for a minute. We love the idea of getting married on a beach with no fuss, just showing up, get married and keep on partying with our friends and family for the week. But I his mother has to be there...I mean its his mother. She is a wonderful but a 65 year old who never has travelled. What to do

My FI was glad I came up with the UN-Bride. I guess that is true. No fuss, hence why I am running away to a AI to have them do all the planning and setting up!.

saraece replied to leamil's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Wow, is tuluminjune our first Dreams Tulum Wedding?? I know I am very anxious about reading your review. I have this place as the top of my list and can't wait to see picutres and hear all the good/bad and ugly about it. I will apologize to you Jason and Karen and Idyates for all the question I may have for you in the future. -
How should I budget for a destination wedding?
saraece replied to bethtamar's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Search budget in here and you can find lots of posting of people's final budget. But as far a ball park figure you can get a wedding done for free at some resorts (included in your stay) or I have seen people pay $65 pp for diner only. Do you want a coctail hour, sit down, buffet....? Destination weddings are great because of all the options. Of course it may not make it any easier making a decision. Good luck planning! -

Non Conflict Diamonds
saraece replied to saraece's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I will definetly look into Canadian Diamonds! Thanks. I just wonder what kind of proof do they have to show when they are from abroad...you think they could just forge that stuff. -
Welcome to the board. You can do anything you want, planning a DW can be easier then an at home. And the wedding coordinators there are apparently very hlepful. So good luck.
-
Ok, now that I have seen Blood Diamond I was wondering how you ensure you are buying non conflict diamonds? I assume when you ask they will always say they are NC. I have my ER but still have the bands to buy and I wanted a eternity style band.
-
Aparently it pays to ask...or maybe I won because I was on to the "A" name conspiracy. I think that is it...let her win, shut her up! lol Horray for me!

Congrat's to you and your FI and welcome to the site. Remember to share all your tips and tricks!

I thought I would pass on a trick I am doing to earn free stuff for my wedding. I realized one day that I have too many point earning cards in my wallet. Hardly using most of them. So I realized that if I stick to one or two cards and do most of my shopping at those places (watching for 20x events etc..) then I could make wedding purchases with the points earned. In my area we have a supperstore grocery store (groceries, pharmacy, photo studio, general household merchandises...) There prices are competative so I try my best to do most of my shopping there. Before I was working on getting points I probably cashed in $200 a year in free stuff. I am hoping to get flowers, picutres developed there, food trays and other food for the AHR (which is a back yard BBQ). I am also collecting points like crazy at the Shoppers Drug Mart. I hit it everytime they have a 20X the points sale and in a matter of months I have collected $75. I am going to use these points to fill my OOT bags with lotions and magazines and other items. I am not getting married until Jan 2009 so I think by then I will have a good amount of stuff earned!

Or Donkey ridin' by Great Big Sea (now here they are refering to riding tractors but...)
-
Ok...I have never heard of anyone having a thing for Donkey's. Frogs, yes, COws, yes, turtles yes...but donkeys? And there is more then one of you. I do have to say the autograph donkey is awsome though.

Moving in with Future Husband
saraece replied to soulmates's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I highly recomend living with a guy before marriage becasue true colours come out. You must have a talk about cleaning. How many womendo you know have their biggest complaint about their men is they don't clean up. My FI and I talked about it and it never has been a big issue becasue he already knows how I feel about it. The one issue I had was I needed things my way. When you live on your own you get used to a certain way, and of course the first guy I lived with didn't do anything my way and it drove me crazy until I realized that there is more then one way to do things. And not to sweat the small stuff. I think this may have been more about control with me, I needed to feel in control. Now that I am with my FI (we have been living together for 4 years) I don't feel the need to control everything. Good luck. -

I think I earn like 4,000 points every other day simply off the interest of what I have in the "bank". And, I've been on here since day one on this new website, and since last summer on the old one, so I've just accumulated alot from posting and playing the lottery for so long! Seriously, if anyone ever needs points for something just PM me and I'll donate- I have more than I'll ever be able to do anything with! I wasn't digging around for a donation....but I'll take it thanks. PS. Be prepared to fight for your lottery champ title!! LOL
