I am expecting around 70 and Sandra said that would only take up half of the restaurant. The other half would be either for the music group or dj (haven't decided yet) and the dancefloor. I haven't asked her about the dancefloor yet...whether they can add a platform or do you just dance on the regular floor.
  2. You have to put Celia Cruz's "La Vida es un Carnaval" on your CD. It ALWAYS gets people out of their seats and on the dance floor. Also, a really popular Mexican pop/rock band is called "Mana". They are awesome and some songs have a Carribbean feel to them.
  3. I love Alicia Keys "No One" song and think it would be perfect for our first dance since it will happen on the beach but my fiance thinks its ghetto so he axed it! Ugh! Soo, I think we both decided on Ingrid Michaelson "The Way I Am ". I fell in love with her since I first heard her on Grey's Anatomy. What I also like about this song is it isn't very long...something like 2:15 . I hate when the song drags on and guests have grown tired of looking at the couple dancing.
  4. I never even tried getting a group rate from DT! I automatically just went with my TA. And just to give you guys an idea....the resort packages our TA gave us began at $430 pp including airport transfers for 3 nights. I happen to think that's a great deal! The prices I saw on expedia were competitive but did not include transfers from airport and I know those can run high especially since our resort is an hour and a half away from airport.

And everyone here is soo helpful! I'm getting married at 4:30 at the chapel. For those of you who haven't been there it is a beatiful, romantic place. Drawback is it only seats 30 but there is some standing room in the back. Still haven't decided where to have the cocktail hour but I know we have the seaside grill reserved for the reception. Any ideas for the cocktail hour, ladies? I was thinking of the main lobby or maybe on the beach?!?!?
  6. Wow! Good for you! I am slowly getting my stuff for my OOT bags. Actually, I'm not intending to buy but if I see a really good deal then I will take it! One place I have always found great stuff is Target. U know when u first walk in they have some bins on your left hand side (behind all the carts)? Well, all that is a dollar section and sometimes they have that stuff at 75% off!!! Sooo, I got tons of cute little notebooks for, you're not going to believe this, a quarter! My advice? Check the dollar bins at Target each time you go!

I tried to paste the link here, but it doesn't work properly (sorry!). Does anyone know how far apart the Seaside Grill and El Patio are? I'm wondering if we'll hear the music from El Patio while we're at the Seaside Grill (that wouldn't be good!) The seaside grill is on one end of the resort and el patio is on another. When I was there it wasn't a problem at all. Are you worried someone else will be having their reception on the other end of the resort? Not sure if they will allow that. btw...so glad to see this thread is more active again!!
  8. I'd be interested in doing something like this in Houston. Anyone have a contact here?! Of course I have to lose 20 lbs first but hey, I'm working on it!!!
  9. LUV IT! Thanks for posting the site! I was hoping to do something similar but thought it would be difficult or time consuming. Now, I KNOW I'm gunna do this! karla
  10. Great idea! I was there for a site visit but didn't take too many pictures because I thought I would be able to find plenty on the web. Well now I regret it! I should have at least taken tons of pics of the reception site so I can plan the decorations accordingly! Ugh! Why wasn't I thinking?!?!?!?! karla

I love love LOVE the bonfire on the beach idea...will definitely be looking into this!! If anyone finds out if you can do this on a different night than the reception, let us know! Oh - and we're doing a cocktail hour....can't think of anything else to do between the end of the ceremony at 4:30 and the start of the reception at 6:30 otherwise... we're having the caribbean trio perform for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Anyone have pics of the Seaside Grill? That's exacty why I went with DT!! No hidden charges and no nickel and diming!!! I had booked the Paradisus but the cost was getting out of control! I don't see why you couldn't have the bonfire on another night. It actually may be fun to plan it on another night. BUT, since my family and friends like to party and the reception has to be over at 11pm, I figured we could keep the party (or should I say drinking) going with a bonfire. I checked DT so called "disco" but it was too cheesy and I don't think my fam would like to be in there. Oh, and sorry I don't have any pics of the seaside grill. But you will love it. Its right by the water and has the perfect outdoor feel without having to be on the sand.
  12. Ahhmazing! I think I could gather enough courage after a glass of wine or two. But I couldn't do it and look as good as you. Makes me want to seal my mouth shut and never eat again!!
  13. Don't know if you have the wedding info from Dreams Tulum but it has some good info on there. If you go with the golden menu, the $55 pp includes drinks for the entire night. On the silver menu, open bar is available for 3 hours. Not sure how much more after that. BONFIRE!! Oh, and I finally asked Sandra about the bonfire on the beach AFTER my reception. The cost is $15pp to include all kinds of beverages (including alcohol) and snacks (including smores). We are definitely going to do this!!
  14. ugh! So I guess I WILL haul all my junk! Thanks for looking into this, though. Saved a lot of brides here a lot of hassles!!

I have purchased the Ultimate Package at Dreams Tulum and made a request to have my Gold Dinner on the terrace, however, I am only expecting 20 - 25 people. Is there a better location for this but one that is still private or at least semi-private and with an outdoorsy beautiful view? I thought that the terrace would be nicer for guests (my grandmother who is in a wheelchair is coming) and also convenient to the bathrooms, etc. However, someone noted above that that few of guests would look swallowed up. Anyone on here have about a 20 guest wedding, where did you have a private dinner afterwards and please confirm that your option was covered in the Ultimate Package. Thanks everyone and happy Dreams Tulum weddings!!! Hi! I also have the ultimate wedding package. I am getting married at the Seaside grill and expecting about 70 people. Why don't you see if this place will be an option? From what I remember, it is definitely smaller than the Terrace. It is right near the beach (reason I chose it) and could be sectioned off to be private. Just a thought. Also, when I was there I saw a wedding for about 30 people at the end of the adult pool. They had set up a long rectangular table. Maybe an option?
  16. I have always heard shipping to Mexico was not a very good idea. Gets lost. Items get stolen. Broken. etc. etc. BUT, if you do ship. Please let us know how it goes. I would be very interested in knowing how everything turned out! I think I will have 3 boxes of wedding stuff, not including my dress or luggage. Ugh!!! Don't even want to think about how I'm going to do it!!!
  17. I know, I know...I've seen this thread before! BUT...I just got back from Micheal's and noticed their Easter sale. They have all things Easter 50% off and for some reason this includes flip-flops. I got 14 pairs for 14 bucks. Just thought I would share this info before the stores run out! Good luck!
  18. Sunbride, I also am paying my travel agent for everything. But I think they will charge you in american dollars. If they don't, ask her to do so. If they list all their prices in US dollars then they need to charge US dollars. I have found if you talk to Sandra about your concerns she is almost always willing to help. Good luck! btw WHEN ARE YOU LEAVING!?!?

Worried they may be expired b/c they're sooo cheap! Also, do they look kinda cheesy, cheapy?!?!?
  20. Great stuff! And so cheap! Thank you for posting! You've saved me mucho $$$$$$ !
  21. Is there any way you could post those video samples? Any help would much be appreciated. Also, if you could, please let us know about the prices. thanks
  22. I wouldn't worry about it too much. After reading so many posts on this site I've learned things somehow always gets done. And don't worry about Sandra. When I went down for my site visit (and saw 2 weddings) Sandra called it quits after dinner and leaves others in charge. I think she knows her limits!
  23. Loved them! Looks like you bought them at a fancy shmancy store. Great idea with the starfish! Can you tell me where I can get them? thanks
