see each other before or not?
jthrasher replied to jthrasher's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I do both. It's been mostly local and regional right now, but I'm trying to expand my market and do more national and destination weddings. My two passions are photography and traveling, so why not combine them?! :-) -

But I can see how it would be eaiser for pictures to do it before. True, but...as a guy, I know I would have that same "wow" feeling if it were just me and her, possibly even more so because I wouldn't be worried about all the guests watching me. And... it makes it easier for the photographer to capture that because he/she doesn't have to work around all the guests standing while she's walking down the isle. Just some food for thought. -
see each other before or not?

I've never seen that before but I love the idea. Obviously there are situations where family can't be present so this is an option. It also partly depends on the bride and her relationship (or lack there of) with her family. DW's are meant to be different so be different however you can. :-) -

Are you planning on seeing each other before the ceremony or not? As a photographer this is something that really affects how the day will flow. In my area there seems to be more brides that are more traditional and don't want to see each other before the ceremony. I think some people don't really consider any other way because that's what they're used to and how it's been done for years. There seems to be a growing trend however where couples are seeing each other before, and just having some one on one time together. Personally, I like it much more when couples spend this time together before the ceremony. That way the first time they see each other they will be alone, and not standing in front of so many people. Many times I will actually set it up in a cool place and take photos of them interacting with each other for the first time that day. It usually makes for some great intimate, and emotional photos. It also allows us to get photos taken of them alone and with the bridal party before hand which frees up more time afterwards for them to spend with family and friends. I've shot many weddings both ways and it's my preference that the couple meet before hand, but of course, I go with the flow however the couple wants it. What are your opinions and thoughts? Jonathan

Liz Edlund ~ Photographer
jthrasher replied to Christine's topic in Northern California: Napa Valley - Wine Country Weddings
she's got some great work. The most important thing about hiring a photographer is clicking with them. If you like their work but don't click with them, better the chances you won't like your pics. You have to be able to trust them. If you have any doubts... don't hire someone. Have you talked with her yet? If not, I would do that before making any decisions. Again, she's got great work so he's definitely someone I would recommend but ultimately you have to make the final decision. Jonathan -

Although... she didn't mention if she was doing the other 2 couples weddings for free or not. -
There are some great photographers on that list. Some of them are friends of mine. I would HIGHLY discourage you from going with Bella. The reason is they are a very large company that hire photographers all over the country. Because they are big, they can not give you the one on one attention that individual photographers or smaller studios can give. Also, most of the photographers they hire are just starting out and using Bella as a way to build their portfolios, so they do not have much experience. Ann listed some GREAT photogs. I'm more than willing to post your request and info in a forum I'm a member of for wedding photographers, which many of the photographers listed are also a part of. You will be able to find someone. We'll help you. Sorry it didn't work out for my giveaway though. :-( Jonathan

Ok... here's another topic for you ladies to discuss. Have you thought of or would you be interested in taking some boudoir photos during when you were getting ready? Kinda like for his eyes only, maybe as a gift for him. I think it would be really cool to do some tasteful, sexy shots of the bride in some of her sexy lingerie that she got at the shower. there wouldn't be any extra cost for this, it would just have to be scheduled for. edit: obviously you'd only consider this if you were very comfortable with your photographer, especially if he was, well, a he. Of course, some girls are more comfortable than others.
