  1. I'm waiting on communication from the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, thinking this may be the one, but no idea if they have my date or anything yet, and have not seen any pictures other than what is on the site...anybody got any that they can share? This is so great that we are all doing this at the same time. So, if I follow MexicoBride's advice, of having some guests stay at the Yucatan because it is cheaper, then I have to pay for them to attend the wedding? Not a big deal at all. But they can come over to the palace for meals and such right? They are allowed to share the facilities, correct? Thanks.
  2. Welcome Welcome! I'm starting to seriously narrow down and thinking Riu Palace... So, we'll talk more.
  3. Still haven't found much, but I think it is pretty expensive, about 400 dollars per night, don't want things to be that tough for my guests... so will probably give up on it. For those of you interested though, it sounds lovely. Hotel overview Half an hour south of Cancun, lays a well-hidden secret where sun searching beach enthusiasts can enjoy the gorgeous weather and beautiful beaches of Mexico. Paradisus Riviera Cancun luxury, all inclusive resort stretches along a lush tropical mangrove preserve on a 5,000 foot long Caribbean coastline and whose beach is protected by the second largest coral reef formation in the world. Explore local beaches and attractions and discover world famous Mayan archeological sites such as Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza. The resort itself recreates a Mayan village setting with narrow paths and charming three-story bungalows. The exclusive Royal Service Suites are a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Paradisus Riviera Cancun is ideal for a family vacation, a romantic getaway or even a large event or celebration.
  4. I will do. Thanks so much for the help. This is tough!! And congrats on the job.
  5. Thanks Jackie. Has anyone got personal experience with this resort? Looks lovely, but the reviews on tripadvisor are TERRIBLE!
  6. Yes, Riviera Maya sounds more like my style too, and the Xcaret sounds gorgeous! Thanks for the ramblings, BUT, I LOVE THE BEACH, and think I might have to go for a place with a fabulous beach... damn. Otherwise, Xcaret sounds perfect.
  7. Welcome Welcome. I am getting married in the Riviera Maya too, but don't know where yet, but since I started seriously the planning thing about a 3 weeks ago, this has been my MAJOR source of info and sanity check for all the stuff I see on the web, so you have come to the RIGHT PLACE! Let's share our decision making about where to do it! My fiance and I moved to London, UK about 5 months ago, but most of our family and guests will be coming from Detroit and Chicago, so some similarities!
  8. But just to clarify, an extremely exciting and happy shock!!
  9. I just totally freaked out! I was so shocked, I kept saying, "this is crazy, this is ridiculous", and finally I said, "Oh wait a minute, I'm supposed to say yes, do it again!" and made him ask me again, and then I said "yes". He said I freaked him out BIG TIME!! Whoops, oh well, he'd had months to work up to it, and for me it was a total shock!!!!!!
  10. Expensive for the weddings or expensive for guests? I am more concerned about the expense for guests than my expense in throwing the party. Is it AI?
  11. There is NO mention of the Wyndhams at all on this forum. They do weddings, and are on the Riviera Maya, am I missing something? Why is nobody interested in these resorts, they sound quite nice... Are they much more expensive? They don't seem to be: Viva Wyndham Azteca - Playa del Carmen - Viva Wyndham Azteca is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mexican Caribbean and is slightly more deluxe than its nearby sister the Viva Wyndham Maya. The rooms are located in two parallel 3-story wings done in a modern Mexican colonial style. Stroll along pearly sands washed by crystalline blue water, play a game of tennis, try one of the many activities offered, or just take it easy by the pool. When evening comes, head for the disco or enjoy the live entertainment. Viva Wyndham Maya - Playa del Carmen - This All Inclusive resort is two miles from the town of Playa del Carmen on a breathtakingly beautiful beach. This modern resort covers 13 beautiful acres and offers a wide selection of activities and delicious selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The rooms are located in two parallel three-story wings done in a modern Mexican colonial style. The central courtyard filled with tropical vegetation leads to a beachfront pool and jacuzzi with an enormous palapa covered theater and main restaurant. Children can enjoy special programs while you relax by the pool, beach or enjoy the watersports.
  12. So, I'm a few weeks late... But, I'm planning my wedding on the Mayan Riviera for December 30th. I've never been to Mexico at all! But I love the idea of it, and looking at average temperatues, it seems it will be nice at that time, any advice aboutt hat time of year, is it a bad one (i haven't booked a venue yet). Also, do you guys always go on site trips? Anybody here get married without a site trip?
  13. Jackie, these look great! Thanks for all the pics, I am definitely thinking of this resort too, will email Edith. Why do you consider Dreams Cancun to be the 'safer' choice?? Just curious. How do prices for Dreams, Grand XCaret, Grand Palladium and Moons compare?? I feel like I'm making progress!!! BUt maybe it's an illusion.
  14. I can't find much information in the forum about Paradisus Riviera Cancun, and on the hotel's site, I can only find this: Blessed with an incredible location, gourmet dining opportunities and endless activities and amenities, Paradisus Riviera Cancun Resort is truly a vacation paradise. However, the resort has also been carefully constructed to offer the finest in meeting facilities and event services. Featuring 8,295 square feet of flexible, climate-controlled meeting space and the latest in audio-visual presentation equipment, the resort can easily accommodate up to 960 guests for the grandest of meetings and events. Beyond that, our experienced meetings and incentives team is adept at planning and executing themed events at various locations across our beautiful property. This means a truly endless list of possibilities for weddings, celebrations and business functions exists at Paradisus Riviera Cancun Resort. Anybody have any experience or ideas about this hotel? Thanks!
  15. Thanks Jilly. I'm taking lots of notes and looking everything up and trying to narrow it down, i will be calling on you for more help!!!
  16. We need a thread with just acronyms explained! WIP? I want to make sure to stay away from it if you say so, whatever it might be!!
  17. This is great, thank you. So are a lot of your guests staying at different resorts, not where your wedding is? Where are all the other resorts that we've been talking about? Dreams Cancun, Moon Palace, El Dorado and such... I will look on line and find a bigger map tonight! Must do work, but can't! So excited and want to read ALL the past info here... So Excited!
  18. So just to explain to those of us that haven't been to any destination weddings before, will this be on the beach? And so, you are having your reception on the beach? And there are no other chairs? Love the furniture, just trying to get a sense of the different options and setups! Thanks!
  19. This place looks lovely! Azul beach hotel boutique. All inclusive cancun mexico resorts Karisma Hotels Mexico vacations Has anyone done more research into this one?
  20. I'm an idiot, but how do I see the picture? Thanks.
  21. I have quite a few people coming quite far too, so that is important to think about, I read that it was not far from Cancun, but maybe that is still quite far. Thanks for the tip! Maybe the next step is to email host and to enlist her help!
  22. I'm considering Dreams Tulum, I wonder if these sites would be similar to dreams Cancun since I can't find much info on Dreams Tulum (because it's brand new I imagine!). How did people decide! And how does it work? Do you usually just work through the hotel, or do you work through a travel agent to get good charter flights and hotel packages for your guests? Thanks.
  23. Just trying to understand, 'host', did you go there, or did you just get those pictures and reviews on line somewhere? I am considering this one because of the mayan influence and ruins nearby. In the past 2 months since this last post, has anyone learned more, or had a wedding there? Thanks ladies!
  24. They all look so beautiful from the websites. How do you start narrowing down? I am feeling overwhelmed I have never been to Mexico, so if flying into Cancun airport (a must for us with close family in UK, California and Michigan) would you be able to look at resorts in Cancun itself, Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen? Other areas too? Thanks!
  25. Okay, I know I'm focussing on the fun parts first rather than the destination which is most important! But these dresses are so cheap, and could be great for a destination wedding since they're plain, sophisticated and beautiful! Thank you.
