There is a huge verizon office by my apartmen and I saw the workers ready to go on strike. I'm sorry that really sucks, it never helps anyone to strike everyone always ends up losing. I hope this gets resolved soon.

Eyebrow waxing all f'ed up-week before wedding! PISSED OFF!
Nrvsbride replied to Jen5372's topic in Just venting or funnies
Ok I know you are pissed and upset but don't freak out. I don't think you should go back to them, they will just want to wax more off and it will only upset you more. If you do go to them ask them what they are going to do to make it better before you let them touch you again. I had the same exact thing happen to me. What you have to do is get a good brow pencil and pencil it in. Fill in the other one too if you need to even them out. You can even buy fake eyebrow hair from a beauty supply store. I know that sounds so weird but you can glue some on to the shorter eyebrow and then fill in with a pencil. If it won't look okay with a pencil then you will probably have to let them wax the longer one to at least make them match. I'm so sorry, I know how annoying this is and especially right before your wedding. -

Does anyone else experience this?*personal issue*
Nrvsbride replied to melwru's topic in Random Thoughts
I hate to say this b/c you seem way too young but it could be early menopause. Either that or you may just have a hormonal imbalance. Def go see a doctor and see if they can refer you to an endocronologist. Hopefully this is something that isn't menopause. Good luck and keep us updated on what the doctors say. -

16 Secrets The Restaurant Industry Doesn't Want You to Know
Nrvsbride replied to *Casey*'s topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
I live in NY and when you go to Mickey D's or Burger King now you see the full fat and calorie content. It is disgusting! It makes you want to throw up! I will say we have a very good mayor who makes good social laws. People may not like the government butting in but his policies have worked significantly. You should see the smoking campaigns they have here. They literally have huge billboards of a lady w/amputated fingers due to smoking. It really makes you never want to smoke again. Thanks to Amy (Amy&Andy) I have started to change my eating habits significantly. I am a huge "eat-out" person b/c I am always on the go but I have since stopped eating out as much and I am trying to eat more clean (organic and not as much animal products). I am slowly trying to ween myself off animal products since there is so much hormones and crap in them but its a lifestyle change and its hard. But you feel so much better once you start changing your eating habits! -
Jamy I'm shocked your credit cards wouldn't let you do it over the phone. I have American Express, Chase, Bank of America and they all let me do it over the phone with no problems. I don't know why but the SS office wasn't bad for me. Then again Jen (NYJen) went to the one in Jamaica, Queens and she said it was horrible. I think the suburbs are more quiet and that is why it didn't have a lot of traffic. Oh yeah and going along with what Jamy said, it doesn't matter what name you have on the marriage certificate or license, you can still get a name change. However, I think I was able to get my new social security card w/o showing any other proof of identity b/c on the form it said that if you are changing it due to a marriage, you have to show a document that has both your maiden name and your new name (which my certificate had). So I guess if you do it the way I did it, it is easier but if you keep your maiden name on your license and sign the license with your maiden name when you get married, they may ask you for more stuff.

I officially legally changed my name and it feels so weird to me especially since I am a lawyer and I have to sign my name on tons of documents daily. There are tons of threads on the forum about legally changing your name but I remember when I started the process there were some questions I had that weren't mentioned here so I figured I would post in case it could help someone else out. PASSPORTS & TRAVELLING First things first, if you already purchased your honeymoon tickets in your maiden name, then it is best to not change your passport until after you return. Your name on your passport has to match the same name on the tickets. However, you can pay a fee to the travel agency to have your name changed on the tickets. But that is a big PITA so I would just leave it. Also, in the alternative what you can do is legally change your name but just not change your passport. Which is why I am doing. I legally changed my name but I am not going to change my name on my passport until I come back from a trip in November. The airports normally just want to see your passport (assuming you are travelling internationally) and your ticket. So normally it doesn't matter if you changed it on your driver's license. I also asked in court (since there is a passport department) and they told me that if you want to expedite a name change on the passport they can't do it for you in court but you can get it done in the post office and it will take 3 weeks. MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE The first step in changing your name is waiting for your marriage certificate. Please note that I got legally married in NY and therefore I don't know what the full procedure is if you get legally married outside of the U.S. They sent me my marriage certificate pretty quickly (I would say 7 to 10 days after I got married). There is also some confusion about whether or not your marriage license has to have your new name on it. When you apply for marriage license in NY there is a section that asks what your new surname will be. I put my new married name in that section and when I got the license it had that information on it all printed up. Additionally, when I signed the marriage license the day of the wedding, I signed it with my new name. However, I am told that none of this matters. A lot of girls on here signed their marriage license with their maiden name and had no problems getting it legally changed to their married name afterwards. Conversely, if you do sign it with your married name but then don't ever bother changing it, you have NOT legally changed your name, you are still legally knows as your maiden name. SOCIAL SECURITY Once you have the marriage certificate (you can either wait for them to mail it to you or pick it up yourself) you need to change your name with the Social Security Department. I know that in NY you can just mail the application in along with the appropriate documents as long as you don't live in Brooklyn or Queens. If you are a resident of either of those counties then you need to go in person. Here is where I was confused. I read the website and it said that if you were mailing the application in you needed to provide ORIGINALS of your birth certificate, your marriage certificate, a driver's license, etc. Well why in the heck would anyone mail in their original documents? What if it got lost? No way JOSE (that's for you Maura, lol). They also don't accept notarized documents so I don't know what the heck your supposed to do. Instead I went down to the office in person. I came armed with every document I could think of. The wait really wasn't bad and when I finally got called up all they asked me for was my marriage certificate. That's it! They never once asked me show ID which I think is weird. What if I'm not who I say I am? The application form I filled out was only one page (it was super easy to fill out) and that was all I gave along with the original of the marriage certificate. She literally took 2 minutes and typed my new name in the computer and told me that I would get my new card in 7 to 10 business days. I literally got my card 3 days later! It was super quick! Also, I know Jen (NYJen) stated in her thread that if your new name is not on your mailbox they will not leave your new card for you. However, I never changed my mailbox (it still has my maiden name) and the post office guy still put it in my mailbox. DRIVER's LICENSE Once you get your new card you can then go to the DMV and get your license changed. I have yet to do this but I will let you guys know about the process as soon as I do it. CREDIT CARDS This was super easy to do. I didn't know what documents I would need, but I just called up all my credit card companies and they did it for me over the phone and sent me new cards. Super easy. They never asked me for proof so it was really easy. BILLS Similary, I called up my utility companies and they were able to change my name on my account by phone. It literally took 2 minutes. I also did this with my cellphone company. I never had to fax over proof or anything. BANK ACCOUNTS I am going to get this changed on Saturday. I think for the bank they will want to see some kind of proof. I am going to bring my marriage certificate and my new SS card. I remember when I changed the address on my account they made me show them a bill with the new address on it, so I know the bank will want to see some proof instead of just taking my word for it. I'll also update this once I change it. PROFESSIONAL LICENSE For those of you who have a profesional license, I called my department (I'm an attorney) and they told me I can change my name on my law license. I just submit this paper and they update my information. I was admitted to the bar under my maiden name so if they allow lawyers to change their names I don't see why any other profession would be different. You should call your appropriate sector and find out what the process is. MEDICAL & LIFE INSURANCE I am in the process of doing this now but I am signing on to my husband's policy so I don't know what they will ask for. Again I will update when I find out what they required of me. That is all I can think of for now but I'll update with any other changes I make.

Welcome to the forum! Its okay to feel overwhelemed, almost everyone feels like this when they are starting out. How about Dreams Cancun or Dreams Tulum? They are both all-inclusive and family friendly. I'm not sure about pricing, it may actually be along the lines of the RIU. Or how about Las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta? It is absolutely beautiful and a lot of girls have had beautiful, weddings there that weren't crazy expensive.
-
I'm an idiot and I keep forgetting to comment on this thread. I am so glad all the Cali girls are safe. That what to do in an emergency stuff is so confusion! Are you telling me there are no architectural engineers and/or scientists out there who can tell us what the best plan is? That is so frustrating! I remember I saw a Victoria Beckham special (her mini reality show) and her assistant got a guy (I think he was a firefighter or something) to teach her earthquake safety. He was teaching her to get under the desk! WTF? And I remember Posh was so scared like "Wtf do I do?" LOL. I would freak out if I was in an earthquake, tornado, or hurricane. Geez I'm starting to think Nyers don't have it that bad after all. We don't get any of that stuff. I'll take a mugging and a drive by shooting any day over an earthquake.

Getting more for the US $ for a Honeymoon?
Nrvsbride replied to kerryjbrown's topic in Honeymoon Talk
I would do Mexico or perhaps Costa Rica or somewhere in South America. How about the Margarita Islands in Venezuela? I hear that it is beautiful and that you can get a lot of bang for your buck there. -
If you want to star watch you can have dinner at Serafina's (there are tons of locations but people go to all of them) and the food is yummy. On any given day you can see A-Rod and the Princess of some country there. You can also have lunch at Da Silvano or the more affordable Bar Pitti right next door. A lot of celebrities lunch there b/c they will be spotted by papparazzi. Its like NYC's equivalant of the Ivy. Also if you just walk around the Village you are more likely than not to spot some celebrities. Most of them live there and are always walking around and running their errands. Do you like sneakers? There are great sneaker stores in SOHO and the village that sell sneakers you can't get anywhere else. For nightclubs I would recommend Mansion of Tenjune. If you get there earlier then you should have no problem getting in. A couple of other good places to have dinner...Tao, Buddha Bar, Budakon, Koi, these are all Japanese places but they are usually bumping and you can stay there after dinner for drinks and dancing.

I forgot to mention why not see a Broadway play? Ashley Parker Angel (remember O-Town) and Aubrey O'Day (from Danity Kane) are starring in Hairspray right now. And Mario Lopez is also starring in "Chorus Line". Wicked, Jersey Boys, and Spamalot are amazing shows and def worth checking out.
-
I would recommend dessert at Serendipity b/c I just love their dessert. There is this great restaurant in SOHO called "Bread". They have the best tomato soup! If you like italian food you should def check it out, it is awesome. You can also go have brunch at Cipriani's that is always a good time and get Bellini's. Or you can have brunch at Pastis. Since you already saw all the touristy things I would say just enjoy eating. LOL. New Yorkers love their food. Or if you did want to see something you could go see the "Walking with Dinosaurs" exhibition in Madison Square Garden. It runs from July 30- August 3. It is supposed to be awesome, they have real life looking dinosaurs. Also there is that cadaver exhibit in South Street Seaport called "Bodies the Exhibition". People seem to really love that. Both of these events are not touristy things they are things that NYers go see so maybe you'd like to check one of them out. Obviously you should shop till you drop b/c there are tons of stores especially in SOHO. And SOHO has those great little vendors on the street that sell cool jewlery and sunglasses. As far as nightlife goes some of the "good" clubs are kind of hard to get into but you can still go somewhere nice like the Hudson Hotel or the Rooftop of the Empire Hotel. Hope you have fun!

Uggh this is so crazy! I really hope Jamaica brides will take this into consideration when booking their weddings. There is nothing I hate more than inconsistent policies. To the girls that already booked, please make sure that you have confirmations in writing and bring it with you in case there is a problem when you get down there.

Uggh I am so mad at myself right now! There was a really good pic of James and his friend so I decided to make a pic thank you card and send that only to his friends. So I go on ofoto (the Kodak) site and proceed to place my order. Well I've never ordered from them before so I'm not familiar with how their stuff works. Anyways I needed 11 cards so I ordered what I thought was 11 cards but then I got my shipment yesterday and there were 110 cards! I flipped out. So I checked my account this morning and I see that the stupid cards come in box sets of 10 which means that I orderd 11 box sets of 10 totalling 110! Uggh I am such a freaking idiot! And worse yet I thought I was ordering picture cards but what I got in the mail was just a plain pic like the kind you order to do baby announcements. So now I'm stuck with 110 pics of James and his stupid friends! I can't believe I am this stupid, the state of NY really needs to revoke my law license. The fact that someone let me graduate college is astounding. No wonder these stupid things cost so much! The whole time I kept thinking wow $6.99 is so expensive for one card! Uggh I am a moron! Does anyone want a free pic of some cute boys? LOL.
