Help me plan my wedding
Nrvsbride replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Guys I am so sorry I haven't responded back, I actually don't have a computer at home so I had to wait to come into work to respond. Let me begin by saying that I was literally in tears by how nice all of you have been with your gestures. I can't thank Tammy enough for starting this website. If it weren't for her I don't know what I would be doing right now. The fact that you girls would offer your veils and dresses is just so amazing, you are way too sweet, all of you. I appreciate each and every comment. Okay some random stuff: Okay here is the link to the restaurant: Welcome It doesn't have to be this restaurant, it was just one of the ideas thrown out there. Basically the $68 a person includes non-alcoholic drinks, wine, and beer throughout the entire event, an hour of passed h'ors d'ouevrds, hot antipasto including grilled shrimp, mozarella en carrozo, baked clams, fried calimari, a pasta, a salad, and a choice of three entress (fish, chicken, or filet mignon) and we get a cake (any kind we want, any style) plus desserts. It also includes, coffee, tea, and cordials. I don't have to get a piano lady. I think the restaurant hires her and that was something they threw out there as an option but obviously it costs more. As far as the backyard, it is pretty large. I don't want to get tents b/c they are expensive but if it rains I'm SOL. James is a bartender so he can buy alcohol wholesale and we can save a lot. Another thing I didn't mention. My father and his best friends are chefs. So they are willing to cook whatever we want. I just didn't want to make my father and his friends cook for us KWIM? But I agree that we should just do one and not the other. I could also look to another restaurant and see if I can get it cheaper like Alyssa said. -

Ok so I started this on Sunday (yesterday). First I took the two pills on an empty stomach like it said to do. Then I waited 15 minutes and took half a spoon full of that crap their trying to pass off as fiber. It was DISGUSTING! I have horrible gag reflex and I could barely keep it down. I'll admit it was hard for me to swallow the pills too. They are kind of big. Anyway I remember in the old thread someone (I think it was Sarah) mentioned that they would just take the fiber with very little water and chug it like a shot. I did that b/c the thought of having to sip a whole bottle full of water made me want to kill myself. So I sucked it up and took it. YUCK! The after taste stayed in my mouth forever. Anyway then at night I drank the tea (your supposed to let it seep for 1 to 2 minutes for the first 5 days). Yeah I'm an impatient one so I let it seep for 4 minutes. Now I also remember the girls saying that the tea helps you get amazing sleep and that you usually have to go when you wake up in the morning. Well the tea wasn't bad at all. But I didn't get that great rest that everyone else did. My body kept waking me up to pee. So finally I wake up in the morning and nothing. No feelings of wanting to go or anything. I was really disappointed. So I took the 2 pills again this morning and then decided to up the fiber to a spoonful (which your only supposed to take after the 5th day). Yeah that did it allright. I was on the train and I thought I was going to die. But it literally didn't kick in for two hours. So I swear to you I almost had an accident. No lie. I have never felt that way in my life. I was cramping so bad and I ran into some shady mall bathroom. I don't even know what mall I was in! I was in tears from the pain and the fear of pooping my pants. So I run into a stall and it all came out. I didn't look to see b/c I had more pressing business...there was no toilet paper in the stall. LOL. So now I had to wait until the coast was clear and I had to run to the next stall to get TP. Umm yeah I think I'm going to wake up earlier tomorrow and take it so that if it takes 2 hours to kick in I'll still be home and not huddled in pain on the train. -
I got my hair japanesed straightened on saturday and you can't wash it for three days so I didn't get to work out at all this week. Your not allowed to sweat b/c it will ruin the hair. I can't work out today but at least I can get one workout in tomorrow before the big weigh in. Wow, I can't believe we are almost at the end. I'm looking forward to Season 2!

I think the best idea would be to do either the restaurant OR the party at the house. Doing one instead of both would save you a lot of money. Which one would you prefer? It really doesn't matter to me. I think the whole issue was that James and his parents felt that if we did the restaurant it would be done by 4:30 and then everyone would still want to do something KWIM? So they offered to have some people come back to their house afterwards. I just think having both is too much. -

I know your FIL's won't like that it's not super uppity, but c'mon, they have to understand the economics here. I believe you'd be able to make this work if you do it in the back yard & cater it like Alyssa is thinking... Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I think it makes more sense. Hmmm...I will have to talk to James about this. -

That still blows my mind. So, the idea is that you & James are supposed to some how figure out how to pay for feeding/ entertaining 90 of your closest friends & family? This makes me nervous for you. Christa have I told you lately that I heart you? LOL. Yes they never offered a dime but now all of a sudden they are offering $5k b/c they can't bare the thought of us not doing anything (i.e. having family come to the church and then what...tell everyone to go home?) They are super pushy but James finally told his parents yesterday that we just don't have the money to do something huge. I just don't know if we should do anything at all. I mean I know our families are going to want to go to the church and see us get married so I guess it will be akward to not do anything at all. KWIM? -

Yeah I think James and I could def do about $4k, maybe $5. Uggh this sucks b/c we had our church time for 1PM, but then we changed it to 11AM b/c we wanted to make the lunch time for the restaurant (it was the only way to keep it private). But actually I think if we just did the restaurant it would be about $9520 w/o tax or tip. But we were also told we would have to hire a piano lady for the music. Not sure how much that would cost. -

You could do a late night ceremony followed by great desserts and cocktails. Unfortunately I can't change the time. The latest ceremony is at three anyway. But I think it would be cute if we just did something simple at his parents house that involved cocktails and maybe some catered food. -

Their backyard is huge! It can hold a lot of people. Like literally hundreds. I wish we could just have something at their house instead of wasting money at the restaurant. Like just get it catered. But they are kind of uptight and I don't know if they would let us do this. To be honest I don't really care too much about what we end up doing. I am just excited to be getting married. The pomp and circumstance never really excited me much. -

My parents gave us $20,000 when we first got engaged (2 years ago) to do whatever we wanted with it. We used it to furnish out apartment since we had nothing. We also paid off some debt. So now that money is gone. I can't ask my parents for a dime since they were super generous with us. His parents are willing to pay $5,000 + a rehearsel dinner. -

Also I forgot to add, FMIL offered to pay $5,000 towards the restaurant and host a rehearsel dinner. I was thinking that instead of putting money towards a rehearsel dinner maybe we could ask her if she could just put it more towards the wedding day. Is that rude to ask of her? We really don't need a rehearsel dinner b/c we don't have a bridal party. I figure if she's willing to help (which I would like to add this help has never been offered until now) then maybe she would be open to the idea. -
Ok ladies I need help. Sorry this is long but I need to give some background info. Originally James and I were going to get married in Cabo at Dreams on July 4, 2008. Well, FMIL and FFIL threw a hissy fit and FI's entire family was against it and I didn't want to cause a rift so we cancelled our DW. Needless to say we were both really devestated but I just couldn't deal with marrying into a family and having everyone hate me. So anyways, along with a DW we had already planned to get married at a church in NY so that we could have a religious and legal wedding here and then have a symbolic wedding in Cabo. Even though we cancelled the DW, we never cancelled the church. So now James and I want to just get married at the church (June 28, 200. Ummm yeah that's in like two months. Needless to say we never planned anything b/c we are having HUGE financial issues now and really we don't want the whole traditional wedding. So now we need to figure out what to do. I don't even have a dress so I'm planning to just buy a white dress from Nordstrom or something. James will probably just buy a suit. I don't want to go crazy spending money that I don't have so I think I will just get a bouquet and not buy flowers for the church. But we have to make a decision about what to do after the church. We threw around the idea of going to a restaurant afterwards. There is a cute little restaurant that we always eat at that is willing to hold a private party for us. It would be about $68 a person + tax and tip. James wants us to invite family and close friends and have a lunch at the restaurant (our ceremony is for 11AM) and then have a Mexican style party at his house afterwards (they have a huge backyard). I like the idea but I think it can get pretty expensive. Unfortunately our families are huge and just inviting the immediate ones is close to 90 people. The restaurant only holds 140 people which is probably how many guest we would have. I'm scared that between the restaurant and the mexican style party we will end up spending over $20,000! This is just crazy considering we have no money right now and I don't want to rack up my credit cards. So does anyone have any ideas?

I just attended a weekend one last week. I really, really enjoyed it and had a positive experience with it. They never asked any of us if we lived together which was really good. FI and I were scared to get chewed out about this too, but they never asked anyone anything. The priest who is marrying us is awesome and I have had such a positive experience with it all. I am really happy I did this. (I also wrote a review on the forum about pre-cana if anyone wants to read it) -
Yay girls we are in our final week! Be good this weekend so we can all have one last big hoorah! I'm cheering you all on!

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think that Dreams Cancun has a catholic priest on site to marry you. There maybe a church nearby. Hmmm maybe TA Jill can jump in and tell you about the surrounding catholic churches near Dreams. -

Sorry girls I'm super late to this...don't mean to be a party pooper (pun intended). I just got my month supply two days ago. I'm going to wait until tomorrow and then start it off. I figure I can have the weekend at my apartment in case anything goes bad. I am not looking forward to drinking the nasty fiber thing. I'm so crazy that I was reading the fiber drink nutrition label and it says 30 calories for like half a spoonful or something like that and I was so pissed that I was going to be wasting calories on this nasty crap. LOL. I just want to be regular since I rarely go and I would like to stop that bloating feeling. I think it'll be great if a lot of us do it. -
Girls its on tonight! Woohoo! I can't wait!

I tried this it doesn't work. I think its a waste of time and money. And for the people that it does work for, I think it makes your heart race and makes you all jittery. I would stay away from it. Plus it gets really stuck to your skin. Ouch!

Yay Dietra! You are kicking ass girl! I'm so proud of you! Ahhh ladies we are in our final week. Let's go out with a big bang.
