Wedding Favors
Nrvsbride replied to Christine's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Ann I had stumbled upon this website a couple of months ago. I was planning on buying the flip flop candles ($0.89 each pair) and instead of giving them out as favors, I am going to ask the resort to fill a martini glass with water at each setting and let the candles float in the water. Then I plan to tie a ribbon around the glass that says "The Perfect Pair". I just think it will look cute and give some color to my table. -Glenda -
I put this in the etiquette section b/c I figured I had wonderful manners and proper social etiquette by inviting myself to weddings of people who have never met me before! LOL. I'm j/k with this post. Too much free time on my hands...oh wait, no I really should be working! -Glenda

Pashminas from China Town
Nrvsbride replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Ok I wanted to update everyone on the pashs. I went to chinatown today during my lunch break to get the samples for each of the girls that wanted them. And to my dismay the guy I normally go to is no longer there!!!! I went to the store but they told me that guy no longer owns it and it is run by someone else now who quoted me $5 a pash. I tried negotiating but it was not working. So I went up and down the strips of shops to see if I could find a better price and no luck. The cheapest price I could find was $5 per pashmina. Although they did say that if I was going to buy a huge quantity they would consider giving me a better deal. But I didn't want to buy them b/c I didn't know if this price was ok with all of you. It sucks its not the 3 for $5 but the ones I saw today were a better quality and it still beats paying $35 like some websites quote. To all the girls who PMed me wanting pashs please let me know whether you are still interested. If you are then I will take another trip out there and send them ASAP. Sorry about all the confusion. (They constantly change owners in order to avoid being arrested by cops for selling counterfeit goods). -Glenda -
I crashed all of your weddings? Would you guys get mad at me? Maybe I could be the BDW wedding crasher. And this way I would get to go to all these cool places. And then I won't have to feel jealous of all the fabulous places that you guys are getting married at. And Leigh can come with me and we can photograph everything and then we can make a BDW coffee table book with all of our weddings. Just a thought... -Glenda

What my husband would/wound't change
Nrvsbride replied to NATASHA's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
What is a zip line? And this may be a stupid question but what exactly do the fire dancers do? I told my FI that everyone rants and raves about them on this board and he looked at me like I was crazy. He doesn't get what they do and to be honest I kind of have an idea but I must not really know if everyone is so crazy about them. I think I have seen fire dancers on TV but it didn't seem that spectacular to me so I'm wondering if I am missing something? -Glenda -
Wine Bottle Favours
Nrvsbride replied to Christine's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Christine thanks for posting! I wonder if these would be hard to ship to Mexico? Maybe the WC in the hotel will let us ship directly to her and she will hold it for us? BTW Ann I love the new pic!!! So cute!! Christine I haven't forgotten about the Napa article, my FI computer wasn't hooked up to the internet so I have to wait for them to fix it before I can scan and send it to you. -Glenda -
Secrets Excellence Punta Cana (AI)
Nrvsbride replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Tammy not only will you be my DW TA but you are going to become my permanent TA b/c I plan to travel the world and you are going to have to book me a trip here b/c I want to go!!!! -Glenda -
Ann I had Karla's link saved too. I am defenitly getting these. This was the only thing I dreamed of when I envisioned my wedding, was having flowers in my hair. I am not getting a veil are you? And I love the silk flower link! Those are really pretty. I never thought of getting silk flowers for everything else as opposed to getting real flowers? Does anyone know if they are cheaper than getting the real thing? -Glenda

Jules my best friend's family is from Panama. If you ever want me to ask her mother something specific regarding a hotel or costs or something like that please let me know, I would be more than happy to. Also, all my friends are going with this friend to Panama in Feb. so if you want me to ask her to find something out for you I will. With regards to Costa Rica, can you copy Pink's wedding? LOL. That's what I would do. -Glenda

Legally married...Before or after?
Nrvsbride replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
OOOh I should so do this!!! Of course cali people have nice civil ceremonies. You don't have dark, dingy rooms with people with attitude marrying you. LOL!!! Do you have to be a resident of cali to get married in cali? B/c if not I will so go and do this! My FI would love it. He's never been outside of NY (well except for neighboring states) so he would be up for it. If I do this, Leigh and Anny will never let me live it down!!!! -Glenda -
Angela, Would you be willing to let her bring a friend? This may make her feel more comfortable so that she won't feel like an outsider around so many young people. I'm sure if she brought a friend they would enjoy themselves. You would be surprised, most older people enjoy getting out and enjoying life! Defenitly ask her. Even if she can't come she will be pleased that you asked her. -Glenda

Hi Maureen! I will try to address your concerns as best as I can. First of all you can probably have your wedding for that budget but you have to be very mindful of how much things cost, and you will have to research a lot to compare prices. But I think you can do it if you work hard at it, although it may get stressful. I would say $10,000 is a more realistic budget but definitly try to work within your budget. Since you don't want to spend a lot, I would recommend not having your wedding at a place like Cabo which can be on the pricier side. And you may not want to do a resort such as Excellence since that tends to be pricey. I know Dreams has good packages and for 12 people you can probably get your whole ceremony set up, food and open bar for about $600. Then you could work from there to adding whatever else it is that you need. To cut costs I would eliminate hiring someone to play music during your cocktail hour and just have a DJ for the reception. DJ's are pretty reasonably priced. If you want to cut costs even further you may want to consider renting a sound system and playing music off your IPOD. But I think if you search other threads you will see that by the time you are done renting a system it will only be a little less than renting a DJ. Since Mexico is so beautiful and the scenery is wonderful you may also want to opt for cutting back on your flower budget. This may help a lot! This way you can spend more of your money on the photographer or a welcome dinner if you like. If you want Mexico then I would recommend Riviera maya or Puerto Vallarta. Hope this helps! And defenitly contact Tammy (the host) she will help you out tremendously. -Glenda

Ann, personally I love sparkly things, but that is just me. I think if you like plain things and don't like fussy things or too much detail then you should keep it simple and go for #1. Do you plan to wear both of them together? If you are going to wear both of them together then I think #2 and #3 are a bit much. Your finger is going to look busy (unless you like that look of course and then you should go for it). But b/c you have a main stone, and two side stones, I think getting a band with diamonds on it will be too much. But if your planning on eventually wearing the band by itself then it might be nice to have something like #3 so you still get the diamond effect. Just my opinion. -Glenda

Los Cabos Hotels/Resorts At-a-Glance
Nrvsbride replied to LCBride2007's topic in Cabo Accommodation & Site
Thanks Ann this was really helpful! -Glenda -
I hinted at it a couple of times (by hint I mean I told him, showed him, and drew for him exactly what I wanted until I felt he completely understood what I was saying.) I also explained to him the whole diamond C's b/c he is color blind and would totally bring me a ring that was brown thinking it sparkled beautifully. My friend's husband is a jewler and he got if from him, but not until I approved of it. LOL. Okay I'm a control freak I admit it. -Glenda:

We have a big guest list for a DW!!
Nrvsbride replied to salsa_bride's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
Ok now that I have finally set a date, I am starting to get rude comments from everyone. Opinions are like a-holes everyone's got one. So my aunt starts telling my mom how her son went to cabo not too long ago and it is so expensive and the cab ride from the airport to the hotel was $40, blah, blah, blah. And my cousin makes $3 million a year and he is complaining about a $40 cab ride? We live in NY that is how much a cab ride costs here from the airport to the suburbs. So now my mom is all distressed about how expensive it is, and now I am upset b/c I am starting to realize that once people see how much it really is, they won't go. Which upsets me only b/c we live in NY where everything is fairly expensive and people spend on average $200 a night going out to a city club and it would be about the same price to stay in a hotel in cabo for the night. Okay I totally highjacked this thread and I'm sorry. But you brought up a good point Jenetta. -Glenda -
I am having my wedding at Dreams in cabo (an AI) and I am using Juan Carlos. I haven't even checked to see if this is a problem but so many girls on this board had their weddings at Dream and used Juan Carlos so I can't imagine that it would be. I am not sure about the other resorts though. Sorry if this isn't of any help to you. -Glenda

Paradisus Riviera Cancun
Nrvsbride replied to MagsieMexico's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
I'm sorry I can't help b/c I don't know much about this place. But if I'm not mistaken someone else on this board wanted to get married here. Oh actually I think she was looking at the Paradisus in Domincan Republic. Maybe try doing a search and see if she got any information on this chain of hotels. At least some basic info that might be of help to you. Sorry I couldn't help. -Glenda -
Welcome! Don't worry, with this forum you will be able to have a gorgeous wedding prepared by the summer! Good luck and let us know how we can help. -Glenda

I went to RM in 2003 in early january and the weather was really nice. It was hot during the day and then cooler at night. I do remember that we were wearing zip up hoodies at night. But it's not freezing or anything like that. Just chilly compared to sitting in the hot sun all day. But it is so beautiful. Love it!! -Glenda

Registry--How many is too many??
Nrvsbride replied to mexico15's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I would say the more the better! There will probably be a lot of people who cannot attend and will want to get you a gift off your registry. Actually you may get very lucky and get most things off your registry. And don't most registries have that deal where if certain things are not purchased the couple gets to purchase it for a discount? Plus having more than one registry gives your guests options. Some will want to spend a little more and go for the nice things at Macy's, others will want to buy more affordable items at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I think you should totally have your family pass the word around that you guys could really use a washer and dryer and this way people will hopefully get you gift certificates to Sears. Or you can go to sears and find out how you can set it up as a registry. Good luck with everything!! -Glenda -
Legally married...Before or after?
Nrvsbride replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Ok I was in the marriage license office b/c I needed to get something for a client and I randomly saw them. At first I did a double take and didn't think it was them, but sure enough there she was holding his hand and clinging on to him for dear life. Why does she always cling I have no idea? But I don't think they are married, the papparazzi would have defenitly been all over that. I think it was some kind of media ploy b/c I think I read about it in page six a couple of days later or somewhere like that. Anyway I think once you get a marriage license in NY you have up until a certain amount of time to get married or else it is invalid. So if they haven't gotten married by now it has to be invalid. They probably just did it to spread rumors and this way when they do do it for real no one will catch on. Sorry I have not been a good little gossip lately!!! -Glenda
