  3. oh my husband called our rental company and we are calling the owner if they don't call us back in a few more minutes. This will be fixed by next week if I have anything to say about it-they have never messed with a pregnant lady who is this far along.
  4. So after taking a walk tonight to help my huge preggo self feel better I decided to relax in a bath. We just moved in March and I hadn't taken a bath in the tub yet (our bathroom only has a shower) so I cleaned it all out and put some yummy smelly bubbles in it and had just gotten it to the perfect temp, climbed in and started my nice cozy soak when my DH says "holy shit-what are you doing" and I said "I am taking a bath just like I said I was planning to" he says "you need to drain it right now" I of course yell back "why" he yells back to me "you need to come down here right now" so what do I come downstairs to find, the water from my bath draining from the light in our kitchen ceiling, yes my pregnant self was sitting in a tub of water that was apparently leaking into the lighting fixture. When we first moved in our shower was leaking and supposedly the rental company who manages our house fixed it, well not only was it leaking from the kitchen but the old spot from the previous leak is now wet too. oh and to top it all off, my cousin is flying in next week for a summer internship on Capitol Hill and is supposed to be using that bathroom, and my mother will be here to help with the baby in three weeks-yes folks I am about to have an incredibly full house with one working bathroom....ahh don't you just love it!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Got a big bottom? A reason to be glad - Diabetes - MSNBC.com Got a big bottom? A reason to be glad Type of fat that accumulates around the hips may fight diabetes, study says Reuters updated 12:27 p.m. ET, Wed., May. 7, 2008 CHICAGO - A type of fat that accumulates around the hips and bottom may actually offer some protection against diabetes, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday. They said subcutaneous fat, or fat that collects under the skin, helped to improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar. Mice that got transplants of this type of fat deep into their abdomens lost weight and their fat cells shrank, even though they made no changes in their diet or activity levels. "It was a surprising result," said Dr. Ronald Kahn of Harvard Medical School in Boston, whose study appears in the journal Cell Metabolism. "We actually found it had a beneficial effect, and it was especially true when you put it inside the abdomen," Kahn said in a telephone interview. Kahn said he started the study to find out why fat located in different parts of the body seems to have different risks of metabolic disease such as diabetes. Researchers have known for some time that fat that collects in the abdomen — known as visceral fat — can raise a person's risk of diabetes and heart disease, while people with pear-shaped bodies, with fat deposits in the buttocks and hips, are less prone to these disorders. Now it turns out that subcutaneous fat — fat found just under the skin — may be actively protecting people from metabolic disease. Kahn and colleagues conducted a series of experiments on mice where they transplanted subcutaneous fat from donor mice into the bellies and under the skin of mice. Mice that got subcutaneous fat transplanted into their bellies started to slim down after several weeks, and they also showed improved blood sugar and insulin levels compared to mice that underwent a sham procedure. "What we found was that when we put it in either place, there was some improvement in metabolism," Kahn said. "I think it's an important result because not only does it say that not all fat is bad, but I think it points to a special aspect of fat where we need to do more research," he said. Kahn's team is working to find the substances produced in subcutaneous fat that provide the benefit with the hope of developing a drug that might copy this effect. Although fat is known to produce several hormones, Kahn said none of the known hormones appeared to be involved in this process. "If we can capture those (substances), we might have an opportunity to convert them into drugs or use them as guides to help develop drugs," he said. Copyright 2008 Reuters. Click for restrictions. 20. Drugs were fairly prevalant while I was there in college, mostly weed and coke, at least it always seemed like it. The big problem when I was there was date rape drugs (some people actually chose to take them). I was always told it was easy to get because we were so close to the border, I don't know if that's true and never really looked into it because I was not into the drug scene.
  21. This is really an embarrassment for the school and the greek system.
  22. Nearly 100 Arrested in College Drug Bust - AOL News Nearly 100 Arrested in College Drug Bust By ALLISON HOFFMAN,AP Posted: 2008-05-07 11:04:28 Filed Under: Crime News, Nation News SAN DIEGO (May 7) - San Diego State University has suspended six fraternities after a sweeping drug investigation that landed dozens of students in jail on suspicion of openly dealing drugs on campus. The probe — prompted by the cocaine overdose death last year of a freshman sorority member — led to the arrests of 96 people, 75 of them San Diego State students. A second drug death occurred during the investigation. Twenty-nine people were arrested early Tuesday in raids at nine locations including the Theta Chi fraternity, where agents found cocaine, Ecstasy and three guns, authorities said. Eighteen of those arrested were wanted on warrants for selling to undercover agents. Theta Chi and five other fraternities have been suspended pending a hearing on evidence gathered during the investigation, dubbed Operation Sudden Fall. All of the arrested students have been suspended and will be barred from attending classes or taking final exams until their cases are reviewed, San Diego State President Stephen Weber said in a statement. Those who live in university-owned housing were evicted, he added. "If guilty, they have ruined an untold number of lives," Weber said. "We are determined to remove people from our community who have placed our students at risk." Authorities said some fraternity members openly dealt drugs, and that one sent a mass text message advertising special prices on cocaine. Two kilograms of cocaine were seized in all, along with 350 Ecstasy pills, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, hash oil, methamphetamine, illicit prescription drugs, several guns and at least $60,000 in cash, authorities said. Profits may have been used to finance fraternity operations, according to an affidavit. A member of Theta Chi sent out a mass text message to his "faithful customers" stating that he and his "associates" would be unable to sell cocaine while they were in Las Vegas for a fraternity formal, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The text promoted a cocaine "sale" and listed the reduced prices on bulk quantities. "Attn faithful customers both myself and my associates will be in Vegas this coming weekend," the 19-year-old student wrote in the text message. "So stock up, we will be back Sunday night." Those arrested included a student who was about to receive a criminal justice degree and another who was to receive a master's degree in homeland security. The Greek (fraternity and sorority) system at San Diego State has about 3,000 students, out of an enrollment of 34,000, but Fraternity Row plays an outsized role in campus life. It sits a block from Cox Arena, home to many college sporting events. Dale Taylor, national executive director of Theta Chi, said he was "obviously shocked and saddened" by the allegations. Theta Chi prohibited the San Diego chapter from group activities such as parties or sports activities and will investigate additional disciplinary measures, up to expulsion of members or the entire chapter. The San Diego chapter, founded 61 years ago, was the first national fraternity on campus and has 65 members. The chapter declined to comment. It occupies two low-slung homes a block off Fraternity Row, with large red and white Greek symbols propped on the roof. Theta Chi has 131 chapters in the U.S. and Canada and more than 161,000 initiates. It was founded in 1856. Besides Theta Chi, the other suspended fraternities are Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Alpha Mu. University police launched their investigation into drug sales on campus after Shirley Poliakoff, 19, died from a cocaine overdose in May 2007. Investigators discovered many students in fraternities were aware of organized drug dealing within their houses. As the investigation continued, another student, from Mesa College, died of a cocaine overdose at an SDSU fraternity house on Feb. 26, the DEA said. Some drugs bought and sold by students were traced to gangs linked to Mexican cartels, according to the DEA. Agents collected about $100,000 worth of drugs that were being advertised in "resale quantities" between members of the fraternity and other students. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press.
