Online Dress Ordering
Christine replied to Christine's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Janet, did you find the dress at a shop and then order it online? -
Hi Ladies, I found this information on a message board for the book Bridal Bargains and thought since so many of us seem to do online everything this might be useful info. 1) Bridalmarketplace.com: I cannot find a listing for them on the BBB. This is probably because they are working under another name. In fact, when I e-mailed them to find out if they were an authorized dealer (I couldn't find them on the manufacturer's website), their response was: "Yes we are an authorized dealer of Demetrios gowns. We order them under a different name." I then e-mailed them back and asked what this "different name" was. Their response was: "We don't give that name out. Sorry." Sounds pretty fishy to me!! 2) Bridesave.com: They have a "satisfactory" record with the BBB, which means that if they were any complaints made within the last 3 years, they have been resolved and the consumer was satisfied with the resolution. 3) Budgetgowns.com: This is another site that I could not find on the BBB. I even did a search for the owner's name (Sharon Powell). 4) Gownsonline.com: The BBB listed 2 complaints within the past 3 years, including 1 regarding advertising issues and 2 regarding service issues. 5) Netbride.com: They have a satisfactory record with the BBB. 6) PearlsPlace.com: They have a satisfactory record with the BBB. 7) Bargainweddinggowns.com (Priceless Bridals): They have an UNSATISFACTORY record with the BBB. RKBridal.com: According to the BBB, 4 complaints were made against them in the past 3 years, including 1 in the past 12 months. Complaints involved the following issues: defective/damaged products, delayed, repair issues, selling practices, and miscellaneous issues. 9) Weddingexpressions.com: They have a satisfactory record with the BBB. 10) HouseofBrides.com: According to the BBB, they have had 6 complaints made against them in the past 3 years, including 3 within the past 12 months! These included 1 complaint due to product quality and 5 complaints regarding customer service. Incidentally, Bridal Bargains does not mention them.

This is not exactly in the Wine Country, its in Contra Costa County, just outside of San Fran near Berkley. Anyway this is my grandparents country club and from what I can tell its actually reasonbly priced and very beautiful. They have a newly remodeled/rebuilt clubhouse. The views are amazing, you can see all three main bridges from the ballroom and they have a large parking lot (always an issue). The kitchen staff makes great food, I have been eating their for years. I don't know if you can play golf their on the day of the wedding because it is private, but the ballroom and other banquet areas are open to the public for parties. The downside is no outdoor weddings. I thought I would post it in case any brides are looking for a Bay Area Wedding and cannot find anything reasonable in the city (SF I mean). I have always thought it was a beautiful location for weddings, and am really considering it for my own. Mira Vista Golf & Country Club

my Jcrew stuff arrived today. I am not sure about the wedding dress, but I couldn't really try it on correctly without someone helping me to button it up, but as far as quality and sizes go, I think its made very well and fits true to size. I am having a dress trying on party with three of the girls from my bridal party this weekend (since I ordered their dresses too) and I will post pics.

Churchill Manor
Christine posted a topic in Northern California: Napa Valley - Wine Country Weddings
This place seems reasonably priced and really beautiful...however when I called they said they only allow the first dance and no other dancing which I think for me would not work, but who knows. I created these the other night. One side is a poem for each of them (I just searched the internet for Bridesmaids poems) and the other side I am telling them to save for a picture from the wedding. This was a really inexpensive thing, I already had a ton of scrapbook stuff and then bought frames at Target for $10. I am a photo junkie, something left over from my sorority days.

Okay so I am about seven months away from my wedding and my fiance decided to plop a whole new set of planning responsibilities on me by asking me if we could have an at home reception after the wedding. This was something we immediatly nixed when we first started planning, but as of right now no one from his family is planning on coming and he just found out that one of his groomsmen got married and is expecting. I think he is starting to feel upset that it will be my friends and family making the trip and now wants to celebrate with them. Even his dad is trying to back out of coming to our wedding, and we know his mom is for sure not coming (keep in mind that until we started dating he had no relationship with his family, I have been pushing for him to renew his relationships) We live in Virginia, and the majority of my and his family lives in Northern California and Northern Nevada. The whole idea of planning this, as well as paying for this is overwhelming to me. I know for sure my dad will not pay for an at home reception so unless my fiance's family (who still spell my name wrong on cards) decides to pay for this, we will wind up paying for this. He said we could just have a bbq in a park!!! Men just don't get it do they... I am torn, because if I was in his situation I would want to celebrate with my family, but I feel like this defeats the purpose of having a family wedding and reception at the resort. Okay enough of my rant!!!

How many at your DW?
Christine replied to TammyWright's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
we sent out 95 Save the dates, which means about 200 people for my huge divorced...at first tons of people said they were coming, but I am not sure yet. We have seven months left. I think that most people will start looking into book their trip after the holidays. I am hoping for no more than 50 -
I was just at the store today trying to figure out what to do for them. I am having a dress trying on party around Christmas when we'll all be at home and I wanted to give them a little poem to ask them formally to be in my wedding. Thanks Jenetta!!!

Rebecca, Thanks for the advice, I think that is a perfect idea. The resort said it would take 6-8 weeks to get the official marriage license from Jamaica and then I would already be back to work for the fall.

Vote for your destination!
Christine replied to TammyWright's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I chose Jamaica after realizing that a wedding in Maui consisted of possibly too many people since my entire family is in California and Nevada and because it was too expensive. A friend told us about an all inclusive wedding she went to and I thought that sounded great...Sandals just came to mind and I saw they had free weddings if you stayed their for your honeymoon. I was hooked. I liked the beaches part of sandals because I have family and friends who are single or who have kids and I didn't want to exclude them. -
thanks...I didn't even think about that.

Poll~ Legal vs. symbolic ceremony?

The guy came to the Baja weddings office and it was over in 5 minutes. I am somewhat in the same situation, my parents would probably be upset. did anyone think about just not telling them and having a friend witness. I know that sounds like drama waiting to happen but I am an only child for my mother and I just think she would get really upset if I got married legally before the wedding she is helping to pay for. -
Not sure if this is the right area to post this, but I was just reading all the postings about having a legal ceremony before you go to your destination wedding. 1. What is the actual process of changing your name. I am a teacher and would like to have this done as soon as I can because even though I don't really want to change my name, in the end it is the right thing to do and since I know I will change my name, I wanted to possibly start the new school year out with my new name. 2. If you get legally married in the states before hand, can you then start changing your name right away (okay I know that seems like a stupid question, but would it be weird to start the name change process before you even get married)

Ikea hearts as party favors
Christine replied to MAGUILLON's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
It all seems so cheap, but then you spend a fortune everytime you go to ikea. I always find more things I just cannot live without. But I think for the tropical and/or mexican themed wedding those candles would be super cute. -
they don't carry their wedding dresses in the stores. I just found the one I wanted on clearance for $99, so I ordered it in two sizes and I will have to send it back if I don't like it....I also found some great dresses for my bridesmaids and I ordered those too, I guess we'll see.
