My DIY Menus- Last DIY project today....I promise!
jpkw replied to Sarah's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I love it Sarah!! You really are the DIY Queen!! Are you having a fixed menu for both Welcome dinner and Reception? Just wondering if you are making a menu for buffet? -
Our B list really only consisted of people that would not know if they were invited one way or another, it was people that we felt like we should invite but if numbers got too high, they were the first we could exclude. We didn't send them STDs but we are ending up sending invitations to all. We are not doing any type of staggered RSVP since we are now pretty much including everyone.

At Home Receptions - with or without
jpkw replied to ~Melissa~'s topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We are NOT having AHR, I can't imagine having to plan both... But so many of our friends are coming to Mexico that we don't really need one. We are doing a 'blessing' in the church the weekend after (to appease FMIL since our wedding in the sand in Mexico is not in a church and she's not happy about it [that's a whole other story...]). We'll invite FI's great aunt and a few others that can't make it to Mexico to the blessing and we'll just go to brunch afterwards. nothing fancy... -
To the Dreams girls (Nicole, Natalie, Kate) - you can get chair ties from Dreams for $1 each. I am not having them at my ceremony (just having white chairs) but at my reception, I am having the turquoise ties. Here's a pic of the Dreams ties:

I have an A list and a B list for my guest list. We sent STDs to only the A list people. We have found out that some of the A's cannot make it so now when we send out our official invites, I am moving some of the B people up to be A's and they are all getting invitations. The B people that we are now inviting did not get STDs but oh well. I don't really expect them to come to the wedding, but I'm inviting them more as a courtesy (and if any of them do accept, at least we'll have the room since some of the A's canot make it). (we also still have some people on the B list that won't get invited at all) After we sent out the STDs we found out right away that some people couldn't make it, so we sent out a few more STDs to some of the B people right away. Does this make any sense?? Our original guest list was HUGE, so we had to try to limit it somehow. My FI is friends with way too many people. For friend invites, we made a rule that the person had to either be in your cell phone or it had to be a person that we would do something with one-on-one (not just with a group), that's why we really had to go with the A/B rating.

I can't really help you with specific activities since i've never been to the Riviera Maya - hopefully the girls on this forum can give you some tours and other ideas. I can definitely relate to your problem though - my FMIL is SO hesitant to travel and cannot believe we have chosen Mexico for our wedding! She has the same fears of Cabo being a dangerous border town (ie Tijuana) and she is very negative anytime we talk to her about our plans. She is going, we are just trying to make the process as easy as possible for her (my FI's brother will fly with her and literally hold her hand until she gets to Dreams!) I think once your dad (& brother) get to Mexico, they will see how amazing it is! Maybe you could get some restaurant suggestions (or tours) from the hotel (where are you staying?). And just plan to take taxis or organized transport at the beginning, so you can make the process as easy as possible. And there may be some things that you have to go look at on your own if he is being ridiculous and wants to just sit at the hotel. sorry you have to deal with this!!!! i do think you just need to get him down there and then he will change his mind! good luck!!!

I was originally going to try to book the Twins. My sister's friend got married in Cabo last year and had the Twins and said they were GREAT!!! I emailed CaboMax directly to inquire about prices. I really wanted a band but with my budget, we are going with a DJ instead. (DJ is almost 1/4 the cost) The Twins are a Duet (2 musicians band) & Cabomax band is 4 musicians. They also provide DJ services and set up a stage depending on resort location. I was quoted the price per hour as $750 usd minimum 3 hours (for the Twins). (this was 2006 price, not sure if it's more now...) Here are the emails of who I corresponded with: Hermes -- [email protected] Omar -- [email protected] Cabomax

Sarah - welcome back! I'm so glad to hear the trip was such a success!!! I'm sure you can't wait for the wedding now!! I'll be curious to hear what the florists prices are. Thanks for the transport info too! And about the tanning, Juan said the exact same thing to me (twice!). He kept stressing - do not get a tan, it doesn't look good in the pictures... You are so smart to bring all of the OOT stuff down too! I like the crate idea!

When is your site visit? Have you been to Dreams yet to see it? The site visit will definitely help but I still think you can do some things now... I think if you have a rough idea of numbers, you can at least figure out what you want to do and start shopping around for deals for OOT bags and other items. You could also work on some projects like invitations, luminarias, decorations... I think it's smart to get things done early so that when you are in Cabo for the wedding, you can truly enjoy and not have to work on projects!! And if you still think it's too early for you, I'm sure there are some girls that need some help with projects (including me!!)... -
ok, talk about an impulse buy! i just bought 2 - free shipping for over $75 and you can return within 30 days. I got these: Salinas Goa Triangle Suit at SwimOutlet.com Salinas Trip Triangle Tie Two Piece at SwimOutlet.com Not sure how they will look... but SOO much easier to buy on line than having to try them on in a store. I'll let you know once I get them! I also got this bandeau one from a store last week for half price - (it's cute on) Vitamin A Black Luxury Bandeau Top at SwimOutlet.com
-
so hard to decide!!! there are 3 or 4 i really like! do you know if swimoutlet lets you return? i couldn't find it on their website, i've never ordered from them before. i think i'll order a bandeau top and a triangle top with bottoms that tie on the side. i'll post what i get once i make up my mind...

When I was in Cabo for my site visit, we met up with Juan (photographer). My FI surfs and is always in the sun and we both always have some color just from being outdoors. After our visit, Juan sent me an email saying to NOT get tan before the wedding b/c it doesn't look good in pictures. He just sent me another email last week about something else and again told me to tell my FI to not get a tan... we thought it was funny but I also want to be careful since I'm sure Juan is right. I feel so much better when I'm tan too!! but I'm actually going to be careful before the wedding and try not to have too much color just a little to look healthier (and thinner!)

jpkw replied to Sarah's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Sarah - the luggage tags are GREAT!! i really love them! you have to post your other projects when you do those too. I may have to 'borrow' some ideas (esp the welcome letter for dreams!!). Nicole - you are super organized as well. My wedding is before yours and I am not half as organized. aaah!!! -

Dreams Cabo - Cascade Terrace set up questions
jpkw replied to jpkw's topic in Cabo Accommodation & Site
Thanks Jenetta & Nicole - I agree, I don't need the lanterns. GOOD - something to keep out of my budget!! I'll probably use top and bottom levels as well, I definitely want the dance floor on the bottom in the middle. Jenetta - where are you having yours? Also, how many luminarias are you using?? Are you having a cake table set up on one end, or where? -
Make your own Luminarias!
jpkw replied to A10CalGal's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Thanks Natalie!! I have to go back and look for some cheap candles at Michaels. What a great deal!! I still don't know how many I'll use at Cascade. I bought enough to make about 20 - not sure if I'll use that many b/c I'm also having tiki's... I might ask Mariana or Maye how many luminarias is typical. How many are you using? -
Dreams Cabo - Cascade Terrace set up questions
jpkw replied to jpkw's topic in Cabo Accommodation & Site
We are doing round tables of 8 or 10 people each. Originally Mariana said she could not hang lanterns at Cascade but we kept asking and she finally said she would do it, but they'd have to be on each side of the terrace area since it is too far to string them across. I'm still deciding if I'll have them... We are definitely doing tiki torches and luminarias so that might be enough, plus I have to see if I have enough in my budget for the lanterns since they are so cute!! As for the top/bottom area, we were planning on only using the bottom area with 4-5 tables on each side and dance floor in the middle, but the picture I posted from Mariana uses the top floor, so now I'm confused!!!! I think I'm just going to ask Mariana (& Maye) what they recommend for the set up. We have about 80-90 guests.
