I finally decided on Dreams Cancun. Here are some of the reasons 1. all inclusive (didn't want to put my guests out more than necessary) 2. affordable 3. allows children, important since we have one 4. medium size, I didn't want anything enormous, I recently went to the atlantis resort in the bahamas and didn't really like it that much, it was like the size of a small town. I wanted to still run into my guests from time to time, but for them to still feel like they were on vacation 5. I heard very good things about dreams and their weddings, I also heard that they only have one wedding a day, maybe two if they are both small, so that was important as well 6. they have a beautiful gazebo overlooking the ocean for the ceremony 7. it was my original first choice and then I looked at a million other places, but just felt that this would be the best place for us and our family 8. my FI really loves to travel and see different parts of the world, and I knew he'd really like to see the mayan ruins while there 9. we wanted to go somewhere neither one of us had ever been I guess that's about it

List Of Photographers In The Rm/cancun Area
*JillD* replied to Jackie's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
Hi Jackie, It appears that we seem to have the same dilemnas. I told steve the other night that I wanted to pay $4000 for pics and he almost lost his mind. I emailed elizabeth as well but never heard back, would you mind emailing me the price packages please? [email protected] Thank you! -
El Dorado Wedding~more pictures
*JillD* replied to Jackie's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
Ann, I contacted Juan about referring me to someone for my wedding in Cancun, and he told me he will travel, so I'm sure PV wouldn't be a problem for him. Hopefully you've heard back from him. -
I'm thinking along the lines of bright pinks & orange, I saw some really nice pics with those colors and I'll think they'll look nice with the ocean background and also kind of tropical

Welcome! have you looked into anywhere in mexico? there are tons of different size & price resorts, if you go to the forum on mexico locations you'll find tons of info there. I don't know very much about cuba or the dominican, sorry.

Post your wedding shoes
*JillD* replied to latoy_04's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
For those of you kicking off your shoes on the beach, you might like these, its like jewelry for you feet, they have tons of different styles, and a lot of them are really pretty. I'd get them if I wasn't so short, my FI already picks on me. http://www.ladybead.com/products/foo...one%20wild.htm -
Make your own Luminarias!
*JillD* replied to A10CalGal's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
that is a really cute idea, and I can picture it, but I have a dumb question, what the heck is vellum, sorry I'm not very crafty, actually this is the type of project I'd buy all the stuff for and never do , somedays I'm so ambitious, but those days are few and far between! -
yes, I'm going to nix the work friends, because I know none of them will be able to come anyway because we can't all have the same week off and I work with all guys so they wouldn't be invited to a shower anyway, so no offending anyone. I guess once I put together the actual guest list I'll be able to better judge realistically who will definetly come, who will maybe come, and who will not, and then maybe that will help me to decide if I need to cut more people.
-
Thanks Tammy, yes I was thinking the same thing about more people coming then we were really counting on. I was thinking we'll have between 25 & 30, and if we had 50, great, but I really don't want 100 people to show up, but I don't think that many will come. We have a few close friends that will be having babies in may & june of next year, so I don't see them coming and a lot of our extended family will probably not want the expense. Of course steve is no help with any aspect of the wedding, its always, whatever you think, whatever you want, blah, blah, blah!

yes, sturbridge is nice, however I'd much rather live on the cape! My sister got married last year and we took her there for the weekend for a quiet bachelorette weekend with the girls. We rented a cottage, it was a great place, I forget what town we were in, but I know we were close to hyannis. I hope dreams is good, I read a lot of reviews and saw a lot of personal pictures of dreams online, so I'm hoping it will be what i want it to be. Most of the reviews I read were pretty good. Definetly if you find anything to post on dreams I'd love to see it.

I need some advice and ideas about what the rest of you have done. If we were getting married at home we would invite approximately 200 guests. Are all of you still inviting anyone you would have invited normally or are you cutting your list down. If I cut it down I think people will be insulted that they weren't invited, even though I know most people probably aren't going to be able to come. And I know my sister is going to throw me a bridal shower because I did a surprise one for her, so I don't want her to invite people to the shower that aren't invited to the wedding, but again I think a lot of people are going to be insulted if not invited to the shower, and if invited to the shower and not the wedding. What is everyone else doing?

welcome suzy, I just got engaged a few weeks ago too, and I feel the same way! So overwhelmed. I thought it was going to be so easy too because my fiancee and I both wanted to do cabo, so no decisions to make, but then I found out because we're in massachusetts that we were probably going to be paying a lot for flights, so now I'm looking at Riviera Maya, and there are a ton of different resorts. But everyone on here is very helpful, there is tons of information and different ideas. I think I'm settling on Dreams Cancun for my wedding next October, but who knows I change my mind 10 times a day! Let me know if you need any help. Jill

I'm not so sure about the shower thing either. My sister got married last year and I threw her a surprise shower, should have seen the look on her face, the poor thing thought she wans't going to have one. Anyway, so I know since she's my maid of honor she's going to want to throw me a shower, but I feel bad because I know she's coming to the wedding and it's going to cost her money for that. I don't think a lot of our extended family will come to the wedding so I think they will be disappointed if I don't have a shower, but who knows.

Grand Palladium RM wedding slideshow!
*JillD* replied to Jackie's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Accommodations & Site
I had emailed sol previously to get prices, I think their pics are beautiful and so unique, but I don't think I'd do the underwater ones. All that time to get ready, spend all that money on a dress, you have your hair and makeup looking perfect and you go and jump in the water and its all over, the pics the rest of the night with wet, ratty hair. I wish there was a way to do those pics the next day, in a dress of course that was not the same one I got married in. -
Hi Jackie, Don't worry about the hijack! Yes, I am from mass, central, I live in Holland, which is on the Connecticut border, next to Sturbridge (old sturbridge village). I am still trying to decide on my location, I send my travel agent new ideas every day! Today I was looking at St. Thomas, but the reviews I read were not very good, so I think I am going to end up going with my original choice, Dreams Cancun, I've heard they do beautful weddings, and like you said in one of your other posts, I expect the whole being in Mexico and mexico is so beautiful thing to be my decorations. I really want to try to keep this as inexpensive as possible and spend money on the important things, my dress and the pictures! But I'll let you know once I decide, I'm sure I'll change my mind 10 more times!
-
I'm running into the same thing. We didn't want a big wedding and didn't really want to spend 20k, but the more I look at things, the more I feel like this isn't going to be cheap. I think we will probably only have between 25 and 30 guests, so I'm hoping & praying to keep it under 10k. But we'll see, there are some things I think I can do myself and keep things simple, I don't need anything too elaborate, my biggest expense will probably be my photographer, I want beautiful pictures!
-
Thanks Jackie for posting some info on Moon Palace, just another resort on my list of many that I'm considering for my wedding! Its good to hear reviews from people that have actually stayed there.
-
Thank you everyone for the welcome! Jackie, the Occidental looks beautiful, I may have to look into that further. I am thinking the same thing, I don't want this to be outrageously expensive for my guests, and my fiancee is no help, he says just pick the place where I'm going to be happy and don't worry about everyone else. We have children coming as well and that's why I'm not looking at the El Dorado, because I have heard from so many people that it's wonderful.
-
Thank you, I noticed that you are looking at the Riviera Maya for your wedding, that is one of the locations I have been looking at as well. Have you picked a resort yet?

Hello, My name is Jill, I am getting married in October or November of next year, we haven't picked a firm date yet and we are having a destination wedding, but have not decided on the location yet either, that's why I'm here, to get some advice and hear what others have done.
