BTW did you do a legal marriage in Mex?

Cost for the legalization is not included in the wedding package." Legalization (apostille) is being done in Mexico. That is why we have a temporary certificate now and will be getting the legalized (apostilled) one in 5 more months. However, it will still be in Spanish and thus need to be translated here in the States. I just don't know what office is supposed to handle it. I went to the Mexican consulate before I left for Mex to check on it and they told me they do no translating either. I suppose I can try again once I have the document in hand and see if they change their tune...And then assuming they do translate it, what am I supposed to do with it then? Is it supposed to be filed in some office somewhere so that it is on record? I am feeling like we should just go to City Hall and get remarried. But I'm not sure if that would be illegal or not!

They know what happens down in Mex to make it legal. They don't know much about what needs to happen back here in the states once you return. She just told me to go to our CIty Hall and they would take care of it, well they don't know anything! But maybe your WC will have better info. If so, please share!
  5. Let this serve as a WARNING to all those who are thinking about doing the legal marriage in Mexico... I'm so frustrated I'm gonna cry! Why does no one ever want to help you?! We got married in Playa del Carmen last month. We made sure we had all the proper paperwork so everything would be legal when we got down there. We were issued a temporary marriage certificate in Spanish. We should be receiving the authenticated one in 5 months (the one with the apostille.) It will also be in Spanish. The resort's WC told us that we would need to take this marriage certificate to our City Hall to have it translated and authenticated. So I started doing some research about it. I called our City Hall. They have no idea what I'm talking about. They told me to call the city Marriage Bureau, so I do. The Marriage Bureau has no idea what I'm talking about and tell me to call City Hall. So I call City Hall again. I asked them what do immigrants do when they need their documents translated. "We don't do anything like that here. Call the Marriage Bureau." So I call MB AGAIN: nada. Not only does no one do it, they've never heard of it, dealt with it and have no idea where to send me. Has anyone else dealt with this or know what I should try next? I just want to be legally married! Someone could be making a fortune if they set up a business to help dest brides navigate the legalities of a DW. I am so confused!!!!!!!!
  6. We used "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Your's" by Stevie Wonder. It was appropriate for Mex since you have to sign docs and do thumbprints as part of the ceremony. Also, the crowd loved it! They thought it was fun, upbeat, and very clever.
  7. I know there's another thread about this somewhere, but I wanted to do a poll. Those of you who are having AHRs, are you going to wear your wedding dress again? We are having 2 AHRs, one in his hometown and one in mine. My friends and mom tell me I should wear my dress again because they loved it and they all wish they could have worn their's more than once, but now I'm thinking it might be a little weird? What are you guys doing?
  8. I think I decide once I get down there and try them both on again. But I will let you guys know when I get back. Thanks for all your kind words!

It's nice to hear your opinions on what I should do. I think when it comes to that day, I will put one on and know which one is "the one". And I am considering the third option of wearing #1 to the ceremony #2 for dinner and dancing. I'm just kicking myself because I feel like I blew my one chance to look gorgeous on my wedding day and now I have two dresses that are just OK. I have been crying about it for the past few days, which I hate because in the grand scheme of things, it's just a dress and there are a lot bigger problems going on in this world. My FI has been very supportive and helpful, but I'm afraid I am not going to feel like I look my best or feel special on my big day. I am embarrassed to admit this, but this is how desperate I am: I actually found my dream dress on ebay the other day, a Carolina Herrera strapless mermaid with pleated hem. I had never seen it before at any of the salons I went to. It was never worn but had been altered and the measurements were exact to mine. No one had bid on it in 7 days. As soon as I saw it I thought: THAT is the dress I should have bought. I could even picture myself walking down the aisle toward my FI in it. So I bid on it and then had to leave for work. The auction ended two hours later and I got outbid at the last minute. I actually contacted the winner and offered to buy it from her and she even agreed, only if it arrived and she didn't like it. But she did like it, of course, because it is an amazing dress. Now everything seems second best to that dress. I guess I just have to let it go and realize what's really important is that we are together with eachother and our friends and family, happy and in love!
  10. I think it's a good idea to get both mothers something not-starfish. It sets them apart from BMs but makes no one feel left out.

It's the best I could do with the pic of #1. I tried to make it bigger, but BDW says the jpeg dimensions are too big to host. It is sheer silk organza, with a subtle shimmery thread throughout, very light and airy, with bateau neckline and long sleeves, covered buttons down the back.
  12. So, my first dress is at my mom's house across the country so I can't try it on again or have it altered. Because I lost a little weight recently, I am afraid it's going to be too big or that I might not like it as much as I used to, so I bought a second dress yesterday just in case! (Crazy - I know!) We are going to bring both of them down. Which one do you guys think I should wear? #1 is the first dress I ever tried on and I fell in love with it. It is different and very "bridal" to me. It is a Romona Keveza designer dress and cost me an arm and a leg. #2 is what I bought yesterday at David's Bridal. It's fun and festive, but more typical of what you see all the time. Also, we are not getting married on the beach, but in a Spanish courtyard at the resort, and I will be wearing a chapel-length veil. DRESS #1 DRESS #2
  13. I am a minimalist and like things to match. It would bug me if I had two different orchids. I would go ahead and use one from your bouquet, I don't think it's too big and i like the idea that it would match. Plus, I like fresh flowers over silk any day!
  14. I leave this Wed for Playa. My mom (who lives across the country) is in possession of my gown, veil, and shoes and is bringing them down with her on Thur. We get married the following Monday. My gown was a little too big to begin with, but I just realized, I've lost some weight since my last fitting over a month ago, and now it will be hanging on me. Does anyone know of any seamstresses in PDC who could handle the job? It is a very delicate fabric and not easy to work with, so it would require a lot of experience. Plus, there are only 3 days to get it done! I asked the WC and she did not know of anyone. I'm trying not to panic!

I'll try to figure it out and see if I can't get a picture on here.
  16. Matt knew from about a month into dating me that he wanted to marry me. It took me a little bit longer! After about 4 years of dating, I knew I was ready, too. We started looking at rings. But because Matt was laid off and we didn't have the money, we had to keep putting it off for 2 more years! Once he got a new job, he said the first thing he wanted to buy was the ring. We had it designed by a jeweler in Philadelphia. I love the antique-look, but I didn't want an antique ring that had been worn by someone else (unless it was a family ring which neither of us had.) They actually hand-designed the setting in a wax mold, showing us different versions and tweaking it until it was just right. Then they cast it in platinum and set the (cushion cut) stone we had chosen into it. I didn't get to see the final product and I wasn't even sure when it was going to be done, so I didn't know exactly when the proposal would take place. Over last summer I was in New York City for work. On Saturday night, July 1, Matt drove up from Philly. I was already asleep in bed. He got into bed, took my left hand gently, and slipped the ring on my finger. I think he thought I would sleep through it and wake up the next morning with the ring on, but as soon as I felt the hard metal I sat bolt up like a spring! We laugh about it now because Matt says it looked like I had rigor mortis!! He asked me if I would marry him and I said "YES!!" It was funny and awesome and the best day of my life. It wasn't a big production, but it was perfect for me. Just the two of us sharing a special moment. I love him so much for it!
  17. Thanks for all the great tips and advice! It's nice to know there are steps that can be taken to help prevent it. I'm still a little worried about my little nephews, since they still swallow ocean water sometimes, not on purpose. But there's only so much you can do!
  18. Hi, everyone! This might be a stupid question, but I have never been to Mexico before and I'm confused about this... I have heard two differing opinions: some say it is safe to use ice cubes and eat fresh produce washed in local water at the AI resort, and others say it is not. I don't want my guests to get sick, and I want to be able to advise them well on this issue. But I also don't want to go overboard with avoiding these things if it's not necessary. What are your experiences/opinions?
  19. Just to add: I am getting married at the Riu Palace Mexico on April 23. I hired Paul for my videography. I was told by the WC it was not a problem to have an outside videographer. So I paid my deposit to Paul. AFTER THAT, the WC told me I will also be charged $100 fee by the resort because it "causes problems" with their on-site regulars. (I am going to pay the fee because it means a lot to me to have Paul as our videographer. His work is amazing and I am really excited to have him capture our wedding!) I complained (via several emails) quite vigorously to the WC about the $100 "fee" policy and the fact that she didn't make it clear to me before I hired Paul. My complaints made no difference, probably because I was already committed to having my wedding there. These complaints need to come BEFORE BOOKING wedding/rooms at the resort. The only way it will change is if you threaten to take your business elsewhere. Of course, if I had known this before hand, I would have done it. But the way things work down there you don't have any contact with the WC until two months before the wedding. So I couldn't have any of my questions answered until after we and all our guests were already booked. It was only then I found out about the fee. Too late to do anything about it. On a side note: I AM using the resort photog, because I've seen his pics and I think they are wonderful, and because he charges a fraction of what I have seen from outside photogs. NOT because of the fee.
  20. I'm not sure, but my guess is it depends on how many weddings are happening simultaneously. Since each resort uses the same WC, I'm sure they choose photographers who have similar styles.
  21. I am doing a veil for ceremony/dinner, then changing into this for dancing... hair pins : Large Gothic Wedding Hair Pin - H5145

Does anyone know anything at all about the quality of the photographer's work at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya I am getting married at Riu Palace Mexico on April 23. I am using the resort photographer Juan Carlos Magallon. We simply could not afford any of the photographers we found outside the resort, plus Riu charges $100 per outside vendor for the day. I was really worried about the quality and style of his photos, since he is so much cheaper than an outside photog. When I brought this up with the WC she got me in contact with him and he emailed me some of his pics. They are beautiful! I got really excited! I like a photojournalistic style, and he definitely surpassed my expectations. He works with Canon SLR digital cameras of 8 megapixels & MacBook Pro computers to edit. We also worked out a custom package with 150 photos on CD, although he takes many more pics than that, and a few prints, but no extras (like leather album, CD to music, etc). We are also only using him for 3 hours - pre-ceremony, ceremony, and post-ceremony - not the reception as we have an outside viedographer, Paul Schranke, coming in for that. (We found Paul on this forum and he is amazing!) Our photo package with Juan is costing us $700. If you pm me your email address, I will forward you the pics Juan sent me.
  23. We are having our's at the Riu Palace Mexico. Have you looked into this? It seems to have all that you're looking for for your guests.
