Or, if you're like me and like to fly by the seat of your pants, you can take your marriage license from Mexico- in Spanish to the Social Security office just to see what they'll tell you. Then, when the (wonder of all wonders) DON'T make you have it translated, but just get you a new social security card (I seriously think the girl that did my paperwork there was new and had no clue what she was doing!), you march straight over to the Secretary of State with your same spanish translation paperwork and demand that they honor it since the Social Security office did! The SOS tried to tell me I had to have it translated, but I pitched a fit about how the Social Security office took it, yada yada, they got a manager, and I got my way...lol Now, i'm sure i'll have to have it translated to get my passport changed, and probably my student loans and stuff, but for now at least I have a new Drivers License and Social Security card!

I did my own! I always wanted to learn calligraphy, so this was a great opportunity. I took a class at Michael's for $20 and it gave me enough of a base that i think my invites looked good. I did the address on the envelopes, return address, and response cards/envelopes. It took some practice, but looked really nice in the end. I think if you have pretty good handwriting to start with, and an eye for detail you can do your own...

Thanks for all your suggestions girls! I'm making a list of places to go, printing out directions of how to get there, and bringing my laptop just in case! lol I don't know yet exactly how much time we're going to have with my brother, and won't know until we get there...depends on his performance over the last couple weeks if he's allowed off base, and how much free time he'll have. So, everything is up in the air until then. I'm glad to have all this info so we'll know where to go. Sounds like the Riverwalk is a definite MUST, and I've gotten alot of great restaurant suggestions! I'll let my dad & SIL know that I've got it all planned out for them...lol

I've stayed at both the Riu Palace (once) and Dreams (twice) and every room I've had, or any of my guests had, was immaculate. The service is phenomenal at Dreams and all of my guests (including the very picky MIL) loved it! Don't be too scared off by what you read on tripadvisor- I think people only post if they have a bad experience. I was worried too, until I went there- i seriously don't know what those people were smoking...the resort is phenomenal!

My brother is graduating from the Air Force's Basic Military Training (Boot Camp). My dad, SIL, niece, and I are going to San Antonio to watch him graduate and will be there from Thursday through Monday. We won't be able to spend a ton of time with him, so are planning to do some sightseeing while we're there. So, does anyone have any suggestions of things we should do during our trip? Finding a super cheap hotel is next on my list of plans...lol

There are other threads on this, and from what I've heard, shipping is unreliable at best. You shouldn't send anything you couldn't afford to lose. Basically, you would be better off to bring extra luggage and pay for the overages and beg your guests/parents to bring stuff with them. But, you'd be surprised how creative you can get with packing if you have to. If you go for a site visit, see if you can leave stuff with the WC then, and if not, pack less clothes! lol
