Make your own Luminarias!

Tammy, did you use white or natural canvas bags? I know it's on here somewhere- I just wanted to make sure I got the right color. I loved the look of yours.

Yeah, you would think as an RN I would be prepared, right? Nope- but next time I will be. I just kept thinking to myself that any day it'll get better and if not, I'll go to the doctor, but I was working so much i just kept putting it off. Riu is not on a filtered water system, and yes, I did see the stickers on the sink. We didn't drink the water, but we drank an awful lot of mixed drinks, that could have done it too. I'm glad to hear they have that under control now- it sure was not fun, but it would not deter me from going back to the Riu, we had sooo much fun there!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY REBECCA! Hope you are enjoying your honeymoon!

It's such a shame that people like that jeopardize the integrity of a website that so many people depend on. Again, just proves you can't always believe everything you read!

So I tried making these today, a little harder than it looks. However, I figured out a better way than their directions. If anyone actually wants to make these, let me know and I'll post how I did mine. They ended up pretty small, although only using an 8x11 sheet of paper, I don't know what I was expecting. They are about 2x3x5. After making about 4, I got pretty quick at it, but they do take some patience. Jeff & I did decide we like this size for our individual place settings, so I guess I'll be making a bunch. We're still messing around with different paper and fonts for the monograms but I've got a couple months left to figure it out. Here are some sample pics, sorry they're a little blurry, I forgot to change the setting on my camera: I did 2 bags made of plain white paper with a monogram printed on an additional sheet of thick vellum, attached with double stick tape. The middle bag is made out of a single piece of fancy vellum. Here's a closer view (the vellum used for the monogram one is very thick. I would recommend using something thinner so the light shines through better) I used a regular Jello box just to give some size perspective (they're pretty small):

OK Janet, first of all, if I see you on this board one more time and not enjoying your new hubby during your honeymoon....lol, totally kidding- I love it. It's funny because I commented to Jeff last night that one of my "online friends" who just got married has already posted some pictures while on her honeymoon and "isn't that cool?" He said "No, it sounds like she needs professional help just as bad as you do" then he laughed, but made me promise that i'd leave my computer at home Anyway, that was an awesome review! Thanks for the detail, especially on Video Zorra (who I've been considering) and the DJ. I'm still up in the air on those two, and your review was refreshing. Also, Hive Spa. I've been debating whether or not to just do it myself and Hive was top on my list of who to use. Now I'm not so sure... I loved your review of Lisa Galvan. As I've totally ruled out a WC for the whole thing, I've been debating a day-of WC. It sounds like she really went above and beyond for you. I'll have to keep that in mind. I'm so glad everything turned out so well for you. I'll be Christa will be very relieved too (and our other Cabo Surf brides whose names are slipping my mind right now). Yay Christa! If you really are that sad that your wedding is over and you want to keep planning, feel free to butt into mine if you have any grand ideas- yours turned out so beautifully I welcome any suggestions! Now, get off the damn computer and go spend some time with your sweetie (but I can't wait to see pics)!

Vellum Bag Directions: Some of us have been trying to make our own luminarias. I thought, heck- if we're going to make them, why not just make the whole bag (MARTHA ALERT!) These bags also could be used for favors, gift bags, etc. Anyway, I found these pretty simple directions, I'll post the results when I get a chance to try it... VELLUM BAG MATERIALS NEEDED FOR BAG: 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of transparent vellum Something rectangle or square to fold vellum around (i.e. two medium stamps taped together) Tape runner or double sided tape These first 3 items are all you need to make the bags- the next 3 items are for if you plan to decorate the bag... Hole punch 1 yard ribbon of your choice (organdy and sheers look beautiful with this vellum) Decorative scissors (optional) 1. (Optional) Stamp and emboss an 8 1/2†x 11†sheet of transparent vellum as desired. This can be an all over pattern or one main design in the center of the page. Or, just use decorated vellum! 2. Wrap the entire sheet, length wise, around something rectangular or square, leaving enough space so that the two edges can be secured together. 3. Run a line of double-sided tape down one seam and stick two sides together. 4. Fold the bottom of the bag like you would wrap a package. Secure folded edges with double-sided tape or tape runner. 5. Pull the object that the paper is wrapped around out of the bag. Narrow sides can be creased like a paper sack or left smooth. To crease sides, simply fold center of the side in until two edges meet. Crease all three edges, 2 sides and center point. Have a brown paper sack near by to use as a model. 6. (Optional) Open end of sack can be trimmed with decorative scissors or left straight. Fill with goodies and fold over. Punch two holes in center of folded over part about 1/2†– 1†down. Thread ribbon through holes. Tie ribbon in a bow or knot.

Well, I guess we were the unlucky ones. We stayed at the Presidente for 3 days and were fine. Then we stayed at the Riu for 4 days and on our last night there I was up all night long and attached to the toilet. I literally got less than 2 hours of sleep because I was so sick. Then for the next 2 weeks I couldn't get too far from a bathroom (sorry, TMI). Jeff had a milder case than me, but his stomach was kinda a mess too. The only thing I could think of that night was that we ate at the steakhouse on the resort for the first time, and for the first time I had salad. Jeff only had a couple bites (probably why he wasn't as bad), but I ate the whole salad. By a strange coincidence, we ran into a high school classmate of Jeff's on her honeymoon at Riu while we were there and spent some time with them, but they left three days after us. When we got back, I started going to her for facial treatments (she's an aesthetician) and found out that she and her husband had the exact same problem, and they ate at the steakhouse and had the salad... Lesson to be learned for me- NO SALAD! Maybe it's better at other places, but I only want to go through that one time in my life. Do you know how miserable it is to work a 12 hour shift and need to run to the bathroom constantly??

All I can say is WOW! Those are so beautiful, Karla. Everything looks so perfect from the location, the decor, the cake, the sparklers at the end, and of course, you on Surfer's Beach (I can't help but be partial to where my pics were taken at!). You and your hubby look so happy, congratulations and all the best!

I do remember some things from PT - like chin tucks - that I'm doing. I took a nasty spill down an outdoor flight of stairs about 4 years ago that cause several injuries - namely this c6 issue. I just think I get lazy about doing all of the things I should do when I feel good. This is my body's not-so-nice way of reminding me. BLAH! And holy mackerel, I could totally just whack the boss today! She's super hyper & full of herself - almost like she's on some sort of upper. It's almost over! I did a quick little bit of reading about this condition, and it did say the PT is usually the most successful treatment. Yikes- can you work on Vicodin? That stuff kicks my butt, although many of my patients take it and are fully functional! Hang in there girl, things will get better. Go home, put your feet up and veg out for awhile...

Karla, thanks so much for such a thorough review! I am so sorry that the construction at Sunset DML was such an issue, although it sounds very similar to what we experienced in September. I am so glad you were still able to get to the beach for pics. Speaking of pics- the pic at the end of your post is absolutely breathtaking. You look so amazing! It sounds like you had several snags along the way, but got over it and still enjoyed your time. I'm so sorry you had such difficulty with vendors and your WC. It sounds like she dropped the ball on you quite a bit. I'm glad to hear the Palmilla was so good- we've thought of going there for a dinner during the honeymoon. Congrats, can't wait to see pics!

I'm sorry Christa. That sucks. I hope you get some good meds that can get this under control. Did they offer you any treatment? Surgical or Physical Therapy? I know this can be widely treated with PT. Hopefully they can at least get you comfy for the moment until you have a treatment plan. I hope your night goes better, just picture yourself and your boss:

Posted on: 10:17 pm, February 07, 2006Report inappropriate post Thanks to many of you that want to help our children I thought I make a separate post on how those that want to can help. If you want to help a little or a lot...we can really use baby blankets/receiving blankets, new small suffed animals, sleepers or onezies for our newborn babies. No, we never have too many. Our art teacher that volunteers her time can use paint, paper or brushes for her kids. Watercolor ;-). Our schools can use your old laptops that work. (We would only be able to give them to the schools with electricity.) Ones that don't work aren't of any use, sorry. Many of our children learn to use computers on cardboard boxes...some things just aren't right. We can use fat crayons for real little people as well as regular crayons, paper, backpacks and any other school supplies normal kids use. If you are limited on room, feel free to go to Soriana's or on the current 'down' steet in front of Love Shack where they sell school supplies. You can purchase items when you get here. Really, our children, their parents and teachers can use all the help they can get. And, best of all...they are very appreciative and say Thank You! If you'd like to e-mail me directly my address is: [email protected] and when you get here, my cell phone here in Cabo is 044-624-355-3477. ~Abrazos y un beso to you all. Diana This is an awesome idea and somthing I would like to look into. I'd love to help out the local economy!

Sorry it is kind of off topic. I haven't decided yet. I think we are going to try to carry on as much as possible, and then ask my family to bring whatever we can't fit with them. Shipping just costs so much and seems rather unreliable from what I've heard. I was kinda thinking the same thing about the M&M's. They'll eat them at the reception and then they'll be gone- nothing to carry home.

Yeah, I think Rebecca posted a site similar to that. I'd forgotten about that idea- it's good too, and easy to carry!
