Ocho Rios wedding idea...need opinions
Sarah replied to MaureenM618's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Looks like a beautiful location! -
Oooh Christine i want that printer! I do everything on my laptop and have now moved the printer to the dining room table to save time from running up to the office to print all the time. I'm sure Jeff can't wait until our house gets back to normal! I have an old HP 890C that has served me well for probably close to 8 years now. It got me all the way through nursing school! It has it's issues from time to time, but I'm hoping it will get me through the wedding and then we'll invest in a new one.

I used Allegro for the Thank you tags on the fans, and our names on my invites. -

What a bummer! At least now you know and can fix it before your guests really have to start making arrangements...

I'm going to put together welcome packages and send them out about 2 weeks before the wedding. This will include a welcome letter, useful tips and maps, the Spanish Words and Phrases sheet, the luggage tags I made, and the Wedding Timeline (also a DIY from Aylee's website). I still have to make the timelines and the welcome letters. Almost done...although, somehow I'm sure I'll come up with something else. Tonight I want to attempt to make monogrammed candles for my tables...we'll see how that goes... -
OK, here's my last project of today. This one is just a mock-up because I'm still not sure how I want to do the font and wording, etc. But, I thought since I actually had motivation to make stuff today I'd go for it... I made these using paperandmore.com's A7 Backing Card Enclosures, $29.99 for 50 cards. A7 Pearlescent Metallic Backing Card Enclosures, 5 Colors - Paperandmore.com I put a sheet of champagne cardstock inbetween the card and the vellum. This look is pretty much exactly what my announcements will look like. I'm also making the same menus for the welcome dinner at Portofino, but I'm still debating the menu for that at this moment...

Part of this is probably due to the fact that my friends and family have put me through so much trauma by all backing out on me that I don't want them to have the fun stuff. Isn't that mean? Jeff's sister isn't even getting one of these... **evil laughing** No, seriously we just decided we wanted to spend the money for a few really nice invitations, and send simple announcements to all our other invitees that we know aren't coming. Jeff also really wants an AHR and I totally don't. Supposedly that info will go on the announcement, but I'm dragging my feet because I don't want to do it. They will be a simple red cardstock with a vellum overlay. Basically it will look like the center invitation part of my "real" invites. Of course I will post pics when I actually get around to making them...

I'm sending out about 80 announcements, but I haven't gotten to those yet!

That's a good idea Christine. I think that's what Ann did too. Hmm....back to the drawing board!

I'm just checking off one thing after another off the DIY paper projects list this week... I made my programs using Aylee's template. Here's her website: aylee. I used the same metallic crimson and metallic champagne paper that I've been using for everything else. For the front and back petal, I used Fiskars Texture Plates to emboss a filigree design. The wording is on the champagne petals. I opened the program in the opposite direction for the pics so the last names are covered... I also took inspiration from Rebecca and made Thank you tags for the white fans from Whiteaisle.com. I will put these at each place setting.

Wow, it seems like this was the weekend for DIY projects! Ann & I must have been on the same wavelength or something...lol Anyway, here they are at long last. I seriously need to get these out in the mail this week, so I'm hoping FI will like them when I show him tonight. I'm a little undecided about the ribbon on the front, but everything else I'm pretty set on. Nonetheless, please leave honest feedback and comments as I've only completed one and am still able to make changes! I have all the paper cut out and ready to go, so if this passes FI's inspection and you all think it looks ok it will be very simple to assemble and get in the mail... Thanks to Christa for the inspiration and templates- you're a lifesaver Christa! The pictures don't show the colors very well, so just in case you can't tell, it is all metallic paper- onyx metallic pocketfold invitation from cardsandpockets.com. I bought metallic cardstock from Discount Wedding Invitations, Vellum Paper, Vellum Envelopes, Card Stock Source - Paperandmore.com and cut my own mat, invitation backing, and insert cards. The metallic mat is crimson metallic, the invitation backing and insert cards are champagne metallic and everything is printed on platinum metallic vellum and attached with miniature silver brads. The envelopes they will be mailed in are champagne metallic and the response envelopes are crimson metallic. I'm hoping to get into a calligraphy class at Michael's this Saturday so i can address them a little fancier! The part I'm not sure about is the ribbon. I had the hardest time finding something to match. I really wanted red, but have exhausted every craft store in Lansing trying to find something that would work. Finally, I decided to go with Ivory metallic wired ribbon from Hobby Lobby. I have folded the ribbon over and made a band using three miniature silver brads. I didn't like the way it looked tied at all, but if anyone has any suggestions of how to do something different or better with the ribbon on the outside I'd love to hear it! Edited to add: Here's what I ended up doing for the front...

The first time I looked I totally thought you ordered them from somewhere! You did great! You asked for opinions so here's mine: I think the palm, the starfish, and the umbrella all on the wedding part of the invitation are a little much. Just my opinion, but I would maybe pick one design and carry it through, or at least pick one to be larger or more dominant. I like all three of those designs, but if i had to pick a favorite it would be the palm, followed by the starfish, and finally the umbrella. But, this is totally my opinion of how I would do them different. They look great just how they are, so take it or leave it! We're going to have to start a Martha support group pretty soon...we're all going DIY crazy! OK: edited: I looked at them again and what I would do is put the palm and the starfish on both invitations, then on one side of the RSVP I'd do the palm, and on the other side the starfish. There- was that opinionated enough for you? lol, sorry I got a little carried away!
