baja fresh isn't much better! Well it is a littyle better but still - holy calorie counts! Baja Fresh I can't believe at Chipotle that the tortilla all by itself is 330 calories and 9 grams of fat! I mean what is it made out of - 100% pure lard?

Why can't I lose weight faster!!! :(

Michelle - Check out some of the recipe threads under the WW group! Also there's great recipes on CookingLight.com 3 pounds is awesome! In my WW meeting there's this girl who's lost over 100 pounds. They counted up all the pounds she's lost and divided it by the number of weeks... turns out she was only losing about .75 pounds per week - but they added up and now she's almost at her goal weight! I agree - a lot of times when I'm "watching" what I eat and not actually counting I am drastically under-estimating how many calories I'm eating. If you want you should join like SparkPeople or a free website like that which helps you count calories I know you want to lose faster but I am jealous! I wish i could lose 1 pound a week! That is perfect. Plus it's been shown over and over again that the slower you lose weight the easier it is to keep it off. -
Why don't more people pay by corkage fees?
gkashmira replied to vinxy's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
I'm not sure where you're getting married but I seem to remember the corkage fee at the Hilton being much higher than $25/bottle... Also I would be weary if you're not also planning on bringing in your own mixers as they will surely charge you for those and you'd be surprised at how pricey they can be at the more expensive places! I'm not saying not to do it just be sure you know what your additional costs may be (mixers, additional charges for high end liquors, etc.) -

Why I hate when it rains in Los Angeles
gkashmira replied to starchild's topic in Just venting or funnies
I know, it's like people have never seen water falling from the sky before! I live in the same neighborhood as you so you know I feel your pain! It's actually really weird to me that no one remembers how to drive in rain. It seems like the vast majority of people who move to LA are from other (read: colder and wetter) places, like me and you. We still remember how to drive in rain... why don't they? -
Honestly all you need is someone to perform the ceremony and any pretty place will do! Since you're not having guests or anything like that you don't have to worry about permits or anything. One thing I'm not 100% sure on is how you're going to get a CA wedding license since you don't live here. Dan and I had to go to the city records department together to get the license. This is not the same as a courthouse that marries you (you would still need this license to do that) it's the actual marriage license that a minister, priest, judge, etc. would sign. I know you have to both be there together and apply in person for it. So just keep that in mind as you will need to arrive in LA (or SD or SB, etc.) at least 1 business day prior so you can go to the county clerk's office and get your license. Here's the info: California Marriage License, Registration and Ceremony Information - General Information Here's the application you need to submit for your license: http://www.lavote.net/RECORDER/PDFS/confMarriageApp.pdf We went to the Van Nuys office and were in and out in about 20 minutes. If you do decide to marry in CA iin the LA vicinity I recommend this office because it was not very crowded.

I'm glad you guys liked it! I am making it again tonight with a side of brown rice... it's also good with tortillas!

Another great site to find healthier versions of favorite foods (and also new recipes) is CookingLight.com I made a broccoli cheddar casserole from them this weekend which was pretty damn good!

Seriously it is delicious! And I ate like 3 bowls of it and it was only 3 points! I already bought ingredients to make more Yum! Let me know what you guys think! If someone is doing Core (versus points) than they may also want to consider adding like very lean ground beef, turkey or fat free veggie ground "beef" to it to make it more like chili.

At my WW meeting our leader gave out the most amazing soup recipe. it basically tastes like chili I guess and even Dan liked it! It is 1 point/cup (makes 15 cups) and is also core: 1 large onion chopped a few garlic cloves 1 package taco seasoning (I used Lawry's "Hot" taco seasoning packet) 2 cups whole kernal corn (frozen) 1 can fat free chicken broth (or Veg. broth)) 1 can black beans undrained 1 can kidney beans undrained or great northern beans undrained 1 can fat free refried beans 1 can diced tomatoes 1 can spicy seasoned tomatoes - like tomatoes with jalapenos cooking spray salt & pepper to taste (you may not need it) 2 stalks chopped celery Saute the onion and crushed garlic until soft in a LARGE pot sprayed with cooking spray. Add the other ingredients to the pot and simmer for 30 - 45 minutes. I LOVED it and it was so filling. I had 3 bowls (1 cup each) and for 3 points I was SO full. Fantastic!

Ok well I'm not much help because I adore yogurt and eat it with shredded wheat/bran minis every morning. But what about any of the following: - PB&J made with "light" (40 calorie) bread w/ 1 tbsp. PB and light suger free jelly? - PB & banana (same as above except substitute the jelly with a banana - western bagel "alternative bagel" (delicious!) toasted with 2 Tbsp. light cream cheese - Egg whites scrambled with sliced onions, mushrooms, etc. (cooked with just a dash of olive oil or cooking spray for no added fat). Add salsa, tomatoes, chives, whatever veggies you like! - fat free soy or skim milk latte (if you drink coffee) and a banana? - wheat toast with a slice of cheddar cheese melted on it - apple and string cheese I guess my point is it doesn't have to be "breakfast" food. It can be anything! Anyway for added incentive (and to reinforce your trainer's point) I have this article excerpt: Women who eat breakfast, especially those who eat cereal, are less likely to be overweight than women who don't Environmental Nutrition, Nov, 2005 Women who eat breakfast, especially those who eat cereal, are less likely to be overweight than women who don't. That's the finding of Michigan State University researchers who analyzed government survey data from more than 4,200 men and women 19 and older. They found that women who ate breakfast were 24% less likely to be overweight compared to nonbreakfast eaters and 30% less likely if breakfast included ready-to-eat cereal. The breakfast connection did not hold true for men.

My Dress Still Doesn't Fit !!!!

You have enough time to have it altered - why not save yourself all the stress and make sure you are comfortable? Just my 2 cents -
Night Before and Day of the Wedding
gkashmira replied to jfwolfe72's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We spent the night together (we also lived together before). We spent all day together with our friends and family down in the pool - very fun! Then at like 3pm I went up to our room with my ladies and he went to his parents room to get dressed. -
Jen is totally right. Whatever menu and PRICES that were sent to you when you signed your original contract are the ones you must insist upon (unless I guess you want to pick a new item from the newer menu). I would also highly advice doing an open bar versus a consumption bar. We went on consumption and the bill was MUCH higher than expected (long story). What we did do however was have bottled water taken off the menu and insisted that pitchers of tap (filtered of course) water be placed on every table. I imagine this saved a LOT of money. They also opened and served red and white wine at dinner but I liked this so it didn't bother me. However you could certainly request that this not be done if you feel your guests would not be ordering it anyway.

Wow - they really are fantastic! I guess my advice for your FMIL would be this: To some people the idea of a destination wedding and all the more modern fun things people do for them comes as a big surprise. There are many people in the world who think that since this is a "wedding" than everything must be done in the same way as all the invites/weddings they've attended. And well, they're boring. Your STDs are awesome and I think your FMIL has bad taste if she doesn't like them!
-
I agree with all of the above. Just pick whichever one you think is closest and then let it go. You have many more decisions to make and things to worry about and I think Janet's advice was perfect! I'm sure whatever you get will be beautiful and no one (even your designy friends) will question it - they'll be too busy having fun at your wedding!

Cabo resorts with swimmable beach
gkashmira replied to mpark46's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
All hotels on Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas are swimmable (but the beaches are also quite crowded for this reason as well!) I think RIU Palace is on Medano right? -

(You will have the final say, even if she doesn't know it!) You can remember if you see something you like. Take a notebook and write down what you like and if she insists that she likes something better, smile sweetly and write that down too. That will make her feel important, (but you are not committing to it and it won't hurt you to fake it). You have to "think about it". That's how you can make her happy and you too. If she asks you later if you have made up your mind, "no, still thinking about it". Then go with whoever you want, wherever you want and buy what you want. Claire - you should consider a job in politics! What a brilliant idea! Plus imagine how much it would mean to her to have this afternoon with you. Assuming that the day won't be horribly uncomfortable (maybe bring your MOH of someone else along to make it easier) it's a great compromise. Who knows you may actually find something you like!

While that certainly is no reason to steal it IS a reason not to leave a small easily stolen item worth what might take someone over 10 years to earn themselves in your hotel room. However, obviously this person did not think about it and clearly she is in the right to make sure EVERYBODY in the world knows what happened here. Certainly the person who stole the ring should be fired (though they may already have quit and retired on their 25K) and the hotel should reimburse the bride. I wonder if insurance would cover it outside of the country like that? That would certainly be interesting to know!

Why wouldn't they just do a show about fertility problems instead? It would be so much more interesting and relevant to the world today. Oprah would be very disappointed.
