For us, we apply it as a monetary credit or refund to the bride/groom's credit card or they can apply the credit as they please toward their travel costs or someone else that books through the block.

This happens more often than people know. Kathy is right. OTA (online travel agencies) usually have the lowest priority if a hotel is sold out and we hear about these stories often (do a google search for "expedia cancelled room") and you can read them. We have heard from resorts that the OTA's do not always confirm the space and just book the room without seeing if one is available so that is one reasons those rooms get "walked". The rooms that are least likely to get walked are group blocks because the resorts understand that there is much more at stake with groups bookings if a few rooms get moved than if it is just an individual room on vacation. We have great working relationships with the resorts we sell so it is unlikely for this to happen to our bookings.
