i guess i should make a formal answer. i had a DW to save $$ and also because i did not want to have a large wedding. when we started making a preliminary list we realized we were in the 300 range...then i started to imagine my parents kooky friends, and steve's musician friends who are all tattoed and even kookier. the thought started giving me anxiety. steve and i are really trying to save our $$ because we are trying to buy a house so we did not want to spend $60k on a wedding...and in san francisco that is kind of a normal cost when the cake lady i wanted was $18 per slice and there was a $5000 site fee...when i looked at photogs my gfs used they were $6-8k for the package.... we decided we would rather spend $15,000 on the 50-60 people closest to us than $50-60k on 300 people, even though both sets of parents offered to pay for a substantial part of our wedding (we would rather have that $$ for a down payment). when we decided o a DW i had to throw all those estimates away because a Destination wedding is a different animal than an at home wedding. I no longer had to spend $8k on flowers...cabo is so beautiful you can do minimal flowers without losing anything, so i spent less than $1700. I also did not have to pay so much for a cake because they charge less (about $6 per slice vs. $14-18 in san francisco). now to the part of the photographer, originally my photog budget was about $6k but when i started seeing the prices of the local photographers i realized i did not have to spend that much. Even the most expensive back when i was looking was charging $350-400 per hour while most other photogs were charging $300-350 per hour. I could get a package for less than $2000, so i did. I found a few photographer's that i liked and did not have to pay any travelling fees. I got lucky because Cabo has alot of great talent. NOT to say the $$ is not worth is to pay a US photograprapher to travel and take your wedding pics. i think if you fall in love with a style and photographer than you have to go for it...trim other parts of your budget to make it work. If i got married in Puerto Vallarta I would have flown a photographer in...if i got married in Riviera Maya (where alot of the resorts do not allow you to bring and outside photographer in unless he/she is a guest at the resort) i would have probably flown one in. sorry for rambling

A good looking man walked into an agent's office in Hollywood and says "I want to be a movie star." Tall, handsome and with experience on Broadway, he has all the right credentials. The agent asked, "What's your name?" The guy said, "My name is Penis van Lesbian." The agent said, "Sir, I hate to tell you, but in order to get into Hollywood, you are going to have to change your name." "I will NOT change my name! The van Lesbian name is centuries old, I will not disrespect my grandfather by changing my name. Not ever." The agent said, "Sir, I have worked in Hollywood for years... you will NEVER go far in Hollywood with a name like Penis van Lesbian! I'm telling you, you will HAVE TO change your name or I will not be able to represent you." "So be it! I guess we will not do business together" the guy said and he left the agent's office. FIVE YEARS LATER..... The agent opens an envelope sent to his office. Inside the envelope is a letter and a check for $50,000. The agent is awe-struck, who would possibly send him $50,000? He reads the letter enclosed ... Quote: "Dear Sir, Five years ago, I came into your office wanting to become an actor in Hollywood , you told me I needed to change my name. Determined to make it with my God-given birth name, I refused. You told me I would never make it in Hollywood with a name like Penis van Lesbian After I left your office, I thought about what you said. I decided you were right. I had to change my name. I had too much pride to return to your office, so I signed with another agent. I would never have made it without changing my name, so the enclosed check is a token of my appreciation. Thank you for your advice. Sincerely, Dick van Dyke

Beach Towels
TammyWright replied to Fotini's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
that is a great idea and find...not to be a wet beach blanket but if you have a larger wedding it will be hard to transport so you may want to have it shipped directly to your destination wedding location. -

Strip Club for Bachelor Party?
TammyWright replied to TammyWright's topic in Just venting or funnies
amy, i went there for a bachelorette party...it was funny, in a scary way...we were wearing those edible candly necklaces that sounded like a good idea at the time, until they started melting on us...and the dancers there were mostly gay and pretending to not be and wanted us to grab their butts and stuff...it was a little disturbing. -

I can't even imagine being able to afford these places. -Glenda my 2 gfs honeymooned at the one and only...one is super wealthy, the other is still pretty well off and they were both shocked by the prices. my best friend went to get a few cocktails and it was over $150.

leigh is right...you order inside and they have salads but they have this barbecue section where you can get yummy sandwiches (bbq chicken, steak) and we eat it outside...then we go back in and sample all the yummies. -

The pics are all we have in the end, but I don't want them to be full of miserable faces bc we spent more on the photog than we did on caring for our guests. so true kate, i guess i didn't explain myself too clearly in the post above...i would rather spend $15k on 60 people than $30k on 200...and alot of the $15k budget i had was towards things to make the week great (welcome dinner, spa party, snorkel/sail trip), not just my wedding day.
