i also want to re-iterate that not only do the mods volunteer their time to help make the forum run smoothly but this is a free forum for brides/grooms so when people complain about how the forum is run, why mods can't do more, i want to tear my hair out. unfortunately, this was a case where a few bad apples ruined it for everyone. yes, it sucks but the mods/admin have enough on their plates just trying to get the forum to run smoothly, keep spam off the forum, etc. that dealing with drama on the forum is the LAST thing we want to deal with. So i would really appreciate it if the mods/admin make a decision on the forum/how its run etc, you will respect our decision. If you have a question about it, maybe pm a mod but please do not start .

this was in our local paper today and has some good tips on what to do if you book on your own and your reservation gets mixed up. Of course if you booked with a TA they would be the one to help you resolve this issue. source:Hey, that's not the hotel I booked Q: I am writing to you in frustration over how Orbitz has misled me and now will not even admit to its obvious mistake. I recently booked our annual vacation through Orbitz at Barcelo Maya Palace in Cancun, Mexico, because the resort sounded beautiful and the hotel is new, with rooms described as excellent by most visitors. When we arrived at the resort, we were told that we didn't have reservations. After much confusion, they told us we were supposed to be at the Barcelo Maya Beach Hotel, the oldest and lowest-rated hotel in this complex. I immediately contacted Orbitz customer service and spent more than an hour trying to get this resolved. After speaking with several people, I finally was connected to a supervisor, who told me that she could upgrade us to the Barcelo Maya Palace Hotel for an additional $2,000, and if I could provide her proof that we were booked at the hotel, they would reimburse us. Though I was very upset that my family and I were forced to stay at a hotel that we did not choose or want, we tried to make the best of the remaining time there. After our return, I contacted Orbitz repeatedly to try to resolve this. They have offered me a $75 voucher and now say that the reason my confirmation says the Barcelo Maya Palace is because this is the logo of the resort complex and has nothing to do with my selection. Why do they send confirmation if it means nothing? This is so frustrating. Can you please help or give me any advice? Donna Savic, Louisville, Ky. ----------------------- A: If Orbitz promised you a room at the Barcelo Maya Palace Hotel, then that's what you should have received. I reviewed your e-mailed confirmation. It says your hotel is the Barcelo Maya Palace within the Barcelo Riviera Maya All Inclusive Complex. Any reasonable person would conclude you were staying at the nice hotel - not the dump. The burden should have been on Orbitz to find a copy of your confirmation and verify that you had been booked at the wrong hotel. I can't believe the online agency would ask you to spend an extra $2,000 and offer to refund it only if you could prove it made a mistake. Did Orbitz try to deceive you when you booked your Cancun vacation? I doubt it. This kind of mix-up isn't uncommon. I recall another case with Orbitz, where a guest believed he was staying at a Reno resort but ended up being sent to an adjacent property, where he checked into what he called the "worst hotel room I've ever seen." When I asked about his reservation, Orbitz not only refunded the full price of his stay, it also dropped the hotel from its reservations system. There are two ways you could have avoided this. First, you could have phoned the hotel to confirm your reservation. That's always a good idea when you're booking through a third party, because reservations can get lost. You'd probably be surprised by how many hotels still handle their reservations by fax. Second, you could have applied the "too-good-to-be-true" litmus test to your resort. Was the price so low that something didn't seem right? For example, if you're getting a brand-new, highly rated, all-inclusive resort in Mexico for $59 a night, you might want to double-check to make sure you're getting what you think you're getting. I contacted Orbitz on your behalf. It apologized for the "disappointing experience" and refunded you $135 for the phone calls you made from Mexico. It also changed the amount of your voucher from $75 to $200. Christopher Elliott is the ombudsman for National Geographic Traveler magazine. i do think it is fair for resorts to have a preferred vendor list or charge some sort of fee because not all wedding vendors are the same caliber, i think it is really disappointing when brides are not given a choice on which vendors they can use. i know for me, it would have swayed my decision on which resort i would have chosen to have my destination wedding at.

Dreams cocktail hour pricing

If we elect to have our cocktail hour at the beach or El Patio, will we be charged an additional $29/person fee for a total of 3 fees (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception)? hey alex, usually if you have your reception at the gazebo, you can have your cocktail hour at el patio and it is not an extra fee since el patio is near the gazebo...it may be extra to have it at the beach as there is alot more set up involved. -
i have to agree with heather...it is the risk of booking a package with charter companies...the travel dates change often. for the regular vacation traveler it is not a big deal but for DW's it really can be. i had a guest book a charter package against my advice because it was $20 less...well, their dates were changed and it really screwed up their wedding plans.

there were actually 2 differetn sets of numbers that the forum had to get people to certain levels. when the rules were changed for downloads i had to make the qualifications the same for both sets of usergroups....so pretty much you got a higher level for a short time when you weren't supposed to have it. i hope that makes sense. need 150 posts to get to junior member 200 to member 300 full member 1000 senior member

that is great news!

Dreams Los Cabos planning questions
TammyWright replied to djelvisp's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
1) What did you do for the welcome dinner/event? We want to have a dinner for our families and then a cocktail reception or something for everyone afterwards. Anyone do anything that avoided the $28 pp private event charge? Yarai told us about Rendez Vous, but is that a good place to gather? if you have a larger group it is worth the $$ to splurge on a private welcome event. or maybe a place at the bar for chips, salsa, guac where they can go to the bar for drinks if you don't want to spend as much $$ 2) Did anyone use Dreams for their decorations/flowers? It seems like the cheapest option, but I would like to hear if they do a good job... they are prety good about getting you what you need. i wouldnt be too worried about it 3) How's the buffet dinner? I decided that I would rather do buffet than sit down to keep it casual. Anyone try any of the buffet menus? i did the mexican buffet for my welcome dinner and usually do it for our annual group trips. the food is great...so yummy...i actually liked it more than my sit down reception food (but then i was so nervous/excited at wedding i hardly ate) 4) What are the options for activities during the day for our guests? Did you provide the activities or just leave them to whatever they wanted to do? we did a few activities offsite: sailing/snorkelling, pub crawl, shopping day but mostly just liked hanging out together. 5) Any cute ideas for favor/welcome bags? check out OOT bag forum above...lots of ideas. my review with pics in my siggy...alot of us dreams brides have our review with planning info in our sigs. look for "sarah", "leia" they did alot of neat stuff.
