Wear this Not This - How do I tell my guests?!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies,

I am working on my wedding invites this week and I realized I dont have a good way of telling my guests what to wear.

Certainly it will NOT be a suit and tie event but I dont want folks showing up in shorts and flip flops.

I was thinking I could add something like "Beach Elegance Attire" to the invite but is is really cheesy and I can't seem to come up with anything else.

Help!!!!!

All ideas welcome.

That is so tough, I *think* most people would be smart enough to wear wedding attire that is appropriate for a beach wedding, but I find myself thinking about adding it too.  My resort has certain restaurants that require more formal (long pants) attire so I am mentioning that in my newsletter updates and packing list, but I wouldn't put it on your invitation.  I'd wait for a more informal update.

V -

I put on my wedding invite that the wedding was semi-formal - cocktail/special occasion dresses preferred for the ladies while slacks and jackets are preferred for the gentlemen.  We wanted to make sure someone didn't show up in shorts or a beach cover up.  Our wedding is in a gazebo overlooking the water - not on the sand which has a tendency to be slightly more casual.  Some guests know better but some will have to be told. :)

I like your idea of "beach elegance attire".

This is what I put in my invite. FMIL kept asking me what to wear & she didn't understand beach elegance attire. (ugh!)

What to Wear

For the wedding, sundresses, skirts, linen pants, cotton shirts, sandals, etc. are appropriate. No ties or blazers needed. The gazebo has a nice tile floor and sidewalks leading to it, so ladies you can wear heels and not worry about walking in the sand.

I was also worried about this.  We decided not to mention anything on our invitation but rather we are going to include it in our pre travel brochure.  I think most guests would know better but some won't.

Here is my wording - tried to keep it simple. I think most girls know to wear some kind of dress but its more difficult for the guys.  Undoubtedly people will end up asking you and you can go into more detail.  Despite all the info in our invitations and pre travel brochures, people still want to hear it first hand.

Wedding attire is resort chic - suit and tie not required, but no jeans or shorts.
