Seating Chart for 1 Large Table

Hey, ladies!  I have been exchanging e-mails with the wedding coordinator at the RIU Negril, and it turns out that for smaller groups like ours (30 ppl) they usually do one long table or a u-shape or a t-shape.  FI and I have discussed it and it seems that it is harder to be social for the u- and t-shaped tables, so we want to go with one big table. 

 

My question is how should we present the seating chart since people won't have table numbers?  I was thinking of just placing their names at their seats or will that just end up in people wondering around or switching their seats?

I would think place cards would be the way to go... I'm not sure though.

Maybe I'm not picturing it right but I think 1 long table is harder to be social than the T-shaped.  I think the guests would have more choices of who to talk to if there were at a "T" shape table than just and "I" shape.  Does that make sense?  But maybe I am picturing it wrong.

Hey sxcT,

 

I did one long table for my wedding and it wasn't difficult to be social at all. I guess it really depends on your wedding party as well as energy levels, but besides for dinner, everyone was up dancing and moving around anyway. It was a really sleek look and I was thrilled how it turned out! Good luck!

This really does look good.  And as you said it depends on the energy and personalities of the guests.  I just know that when I've been at a table with several friends (10+) I only get to talk to the people on both sides of me and across the table so I feel the socializing is limited.  But the guests will be up walking around, eating, drinking, dancing and socializing so it probably isn't an issue anyways.

Where are you going to have the bride and groom sit, with the I-shaped table?  Do they sit in the middle, or at one of the ends?

I think we're going to go with an I-shape too...

I'm doing two tables made into one long banquet style table. It won't be hard to be social if you arrange the seats according to who knows each other. I'm not doing a seating chart b/c it's unnecessary. I'm just doing place cards on the glasses. Shouldn't take people long to find their seat, lol. Plus it saves you money!

That's what we're going to do too - put two tables together.  I think we're gonna sit in the middle... but I'm not sure.  Wondering what others have done or seen with weddings with one long I-shaped table...

I thought my DH and I could sit on the ends, but the hotel informed us we couldn't so we're sitting in the middle.
